QUOTE(food to avoid)
7. Sunflower Seeds
Do not offer these seeds in excess. They are loaded with fat and may contribute to intestinal problems.
this is going to sound stupid asking, but my glider's addicted to them, and its kinda heartbreaking to not give her when she's all over the sealed ziplock bag trying to get some of the seeds... how??? T_T
*
Try and give her less lah.... normally gliders do not eat nuts or seeds naturally.... so the scary thing is if it swallows a big chunk and gets stuck in the gut.... but it can make them fat hahaha.... give only as treat lah, not as staple so it would be ok.

QUOTE(Vio @ Apr 21 2007, 09:15 PM)
hey guys ever heard of alfalfa or ever gave it to ur gliders? recently i saw a shop selling it and was wondering whether it's good for my gliders. according to it , it's high in calcium and provides extra fiber essential to small animal digestive system.

Gliders do not eat hay. Only rabbits, guinea pigs and chinchillas eat hay. Gerbils, hamsters, rats and mice would nibble and chew more than eat it. Gliders are fruit and sap eaters, not grass eaters. So hay can cause some intestinal and digestion problems...

lol
So cute. tongue.gif

SGs don't usually take alfalfa. Not a good idea to feed. Why does the alfalfa in that bag look so yellow???
*
Hahah... damn yellow rite? Looks like the Russel straw bedding.

Actually, I made roasted crickets before. It actually smelled damn nice, like roasted nuts. My hams loved them, but I didn't keep them in a proper container, so they 'lau foong'. sweat.gif

See pictures of course cute... but can you and your gf commit? Coz a glider is not easy like hamster or rabbit... it is like taking care of a child or children. A lot of commitment and dedication.

Go Garage Sales to find them for sale.

Haaha... true... we are their living toilets... last night Kiah peed on my neck.... today she poo poo on my arm.... so.... one must not feel geli when a glider pees and poos on her.... coz if feel disgusted, then a glider is not a good pet choice.

Yah, it is normal.... coz they are small, can't really control and naturally they do it anywhere and everywhere they want so it's no surprise that they do it on us hehehehe.... I get loads of pee and poo on me by my naughty but darling Kiah.

Dr Yeoh can treat exotics but he is still learning from experience haahah.... he more experience with reptiles now than sugar gliders or hedgehogs but then he is learning so that is good news for us.

I manage to set up the cage I got from CFP.... put Kiah inside, at first she don't like it but now she is sleeping in her deep hammock ahhaah.... Well, let's see how she takes to a cage overnight.

Ohh, really hope dr yeoh can treat suggies soon smile.gif

Alamak, Kiah got a cage already blink.gif Will probably take her a while to get use to it, anyway you can always tell what smile.gif Hope she'll be okay tonight smile.gif

I bought Iggy the small rattan ball, first day only he was curious, now it's just sitting at the bottom of the cage doh.gif

Also I bought Delikate Zero Odour for small animals. It says that it is 100% natural ingredient. It seems to get rid of the smell a bit, but the initial smell when you spray it, is a bit unpleasent lah, smell like ubat, then a few minutes later baru dissappear. But it kindda works la... A bit...

Found the Careline, but since my husband was not with me, didn't buy it yet, cuz when I smell, still got some wood, wood smell, have to let him smell first... Hmm, how about corn cobs? Do they work??

biggrin.gif

Hahah... she is sleeping in her hammock now... so cute like a ball.... Anyway, i'm currently training a baby rat to sit on my shoulder like a sugar glider too heheheh...

Yah, your Iggy like Kiah lah, 1st day she likes the coconut... now, never touch also....

Careline has a softer smell... not so bad hahah.

QUOTE(cheaka @ Apr 23 2007, 06:15 PM)
CFP: You mean your chika is a female...aiyoh....how lah..did you managed to check with Sumitup about it...how about your upcoming baby female too...have you collected...i am waiting also..

Hamster9: wah..so cute lah..I am sure Kiah will enjoy it very much....and I am sure they will be marking their territory all around the cage...hahah...
*
Yah, it's quite bad that the seller can give wrong sex gliders.... TWICE! I think the seller dunno how to see.... which is bad coz as a seller, he should have more knowledge than the buyer...

Anyway, Kiah is mine lah, not Hamster9 hahaha....

Yay! Kiah had her 1st night in her cage... I made her a deep sleeping box using empty tissue box and a piece of card board... she loves sleeping in there hahaha... then she go and climb and jump on her hammock.... but then she really miss being a free range glider so now she is free in my room again.... maybe the cage will only be for her sometimes lah.

Kiah survived her 1st night in a cage laugh.gif

Atleast she still gets to roam free quite often than Iggy tongue.gif

This morning, somehow when he pooped, he accidently grabbed one with his foot, the he went climbing all over the notice board smearing his poop and then jumped to me and smeared some onto my shirt too mad.gif Aiyohh, have to work with poop smeared shirt today... And had to clean the board too sweat.gif

Hun, can we see the difference in a male or female joey? Male joey can already see their jewel or not?? Haihh, how the seller like that...

biggrin.gif
KP
*
Hahah.... Iggy Iggy, make your notice board dirty tongue.gif

It is easy to see male and female joeys... you must look closely, use your finger to search for the pouch around the tummy.... males will have this little small nib that looks like a little cherry... hahah... that is a male loh.... female just have a U shape slit.... that's the pouch.

If joeys are wild, can still handle wan.... When I got Chiwek, he was wild hahaha.... but manage to tame him abit before hand to hamster9 lah...

All joeys that are from suppliers will be WILD coz the suppliers do not give human interaction to them, causing them to still be afraid and act defensive....

I still think Sumitup must learn how to sex properly... I just wonder how many "females" became males doh.gif

QUOTE(MamaHui @ Apr 24 2007, 12:54 PM)
Hi, my pregnant sugar glider has gave birth to 2 little baby SG, they always stay and hide in their mommy pouch... wondering what i should feed them and when to start... ??
*
They will stay in the pouch coz their mother's milk is inside mah.... so you do not need to worry about anything. You do not need to feed them yet, let Mother Nature run its course. Once the joeys are old enough, they will venture out of the pouch to explore. When they start to explore away from mom, only then you can touch them and hold them. Intro fruits and glider mix. When they are older, can intro mealworms but right now, just let the mother glider handle it.

So now does she take the cage as toilet and bed instead of u? tongue.gif

LOL.... must cage her from people that wanna kidnap her loh... hahahah

QUOTE(khaneys @ Apr 24 2007, 02:53 PM)
Hun buy cage from CFP.Bcoz there are people intend to kidnap kiah, thats why Hun cage Kiah and lock the door using mangga(not buah mangga ok) happy.gif

Jk

Wah, you also know my reason sweat.gif

QUOTE(krynzpeaches @ Apr 24 2007, 03:15 PM)
Haihh, then have to double check the sex properly everytime getting a suggie, esp joeys.

Suddenly I also recall that last time the person I got Iggy from, said that Iggy is a female, then when I said, too bad, I want a male, then he said, ehh how to know male or female doh.gif After much explaining, he said he thinks Iggy is male. When I went to get Iggy, can see sooooo clear his jewel cuz he's already adult what sweat.gif Dunno how he could have missed it...

biggrin.gif

Sigh, some people sell without knowledge lah... what to do?

QUOTE(hamster9 @ Apr 24 2007, 03:35 PM)
lol...i think u should see the glider for urself..very hard to notice the balls unless he is really tame and allow u to rub his tummy. visually u can't see it... the fur is really thick and the balls is so small...  sweat.gif  my bad
*
Can wan... must hold properly to see hahahah.... Can push with your fingers to see.

QUOTE(MamaHui @ Apr 24 2007, 08:57 PM)
another question.... because the mother give birth to 2 joeys, sometimes one is left out in their house and the mother went out from the house. and some times the mother left both of them in the house to go out and look for food... is it alright? and is it alright for the father SG to stay with them together?

Added on April 24, 2007, 8:59 pm

thanks! smile.gif
when is the period of OOP? when is it fully weaned from the mother? until they can open their eys?
*
If the joeys are too big to be inside the mom all the time, it means they are OOP already. So you start counting the OOP...

You did not do enough research. We in this forum do not breed them, we tend to keep them as pets mostly.... if you breed gliders, you should do research first.

http://www.skinhorse.net/gliders/joeys.html
http://www.skinhorse.net/gliders/breeding.html
http://www.sugargliderconnection.com/Breeding.htm
http://www.geocities.com/gliderlove/joeygrowth.html

There are so much information by proper breeders in the Internet, can easily google it.... do read up on their development and care.

Hun how ar my glider still not bonding with me.So sory to him i cant with him everytime.Go work at 7.00 a.m and back at 5.30.Only play with him after i back from work T_T hope after i finished my practical i can give him more attention.Hun give me advise plis~
*
Your sugar glider has not bonded well.... coz you leave him from 7am to 530pm. Well, during that time he would sleep but then he can't smell you enough. How about at night? Do you play with him and carry him around? Coz sugar glider is a nocturnal animal, they will be active around 11pm onwards.... so normally for us keepers, we play with them during the late night.
You also must never show fear to a sugar glider. Be brave, if bite then just let it bite coz you must let it know you are a friend. Hand feed and hold the glider everyday. The minimum hours to play with a sugar glider everyday is about 1 hour... the best is 2 hours.

Owh i always feed him when i get back from work. Then he will start to sleep again.Yeah i know he bite.I let him bite, not scared and not pain. How to play with him.when he active he will jump other place run from me.But sometime i put him on my body.he will start walking around.

thank for advise hun.
*
Now you must make him know you are a friend. What you can do is play with him in a your room. Make sure cannot escape from your room. You just hold him, tickle him, pat him.... then carry him in a pouch often lah. Coz now you must get him used to your smell also.
