Hi guys, I ordered a Titanic model ship (all 40" of it, quite a large one!) via eBay late last month and received a "letter" from the Post Laju mailman this morning... It stated that my ship is already in Malaysia and currently being "detained" at the Post Malaysia Customs Affairs Dept. in KLIA... I suspect this is for tax-related reasons, but does the Customs Dept. actually impose tax on such large models?

To be more precise, the letterhead stated "Pusat Mel dan Kurier", which is the large building next to the LCCT and opposite TuneHotels.com... Which means that if I were to head to the Airport to pick up the Titanic, I need to head to this building instead of the Customs complex?

Btw, I tried calling the number on the letter (+603-8777 3680) several times today but there was no reply... What other number can I contact, just to clarify with them on this matter?

Thank you in advance! biggrin.gif

Hi,
the custom office is inside this building together with pos malaysia. just go there to ask, they will guide you to collect your item from pos malaysia and pos will hold your I/C and you will take your model ship and show to custom officer just few step away. you need to open and show them and the custom officer may ask you the value and charge you some import duty, maybe you tell them for personal and not for commercial, you may skip for paying tax.

abx sucks, really

last time i had experience with UPS (not USPS).

i had ordered a camera tripod from BHphoto in the US. photographic items are not supposed to be taxable. what more, the total value including shipping was less than rm500. they didn't call me or anything, but deliver straight to my house and asked me to pay for tax before they hand out the parcel to me. i mean WTF... charging tax on non taxable item. fortunately it's a company stuff, so less drama i just decided to pay and claim money from company later.

International couriers we need to beware of
- ABX
- FEDEX
- UPS

So far I never had any problem with tax or duty from
- DHL
- EMS (Pos Laju)

EMS usually asks receiver to come to the post office customs department if the package is big, because they want to see if you have suspicious items inside. That's all (most of the time).

camera tripod need pay tax, i kena tax before. i did when to custom office beside LCCT and show them the item for personal use (one item of professional tripod), but the officer instead to tax 15% + 5%, because it is accessories, unless it come with camera then no need pay. some more they want me to show the proof of payment, ask me login to bank account of the transaction in their PC. the value cannot simply say, they will force you login to paypal or you credit card account as well. finally cost RM160+ @##$%^&^%E$$..

hi guy... im wondering if i need to get special approval permit for a running gps watch ? if yes, how much will it cost and how i go about it ? thx for your input

for personal use i think they will not check 1-2units, for commercial, any device has signal / frequency transmit or receive use in Malaysia, you need to get SIRIM approval. example a mobile phone it has Bluetooth, GSM, HSDPA, GPS, WIFI, Radio frequency etc, then you need apply each frequency test report at SIRIM and you need provide them testing device, each report they will charge you RM5000 - RM8000. unless the device principal, like apple, samsung, they already have the original test report, then you don't need that but provided the device principal can give your a letter and original copy full equipment test report.

Hope somebody can help me.

I'm sick of living in fear of being robbed again and since I now live 2hours away from my parents house, I bought a fingerprint door lock to make sure my house door is always locked without excuses "forgot key la" or "yr father/mother always forget key" ever happening again...

I bought this fingerprint door lock from a seller in Korea and had it shipped here. I work in a free trade zone area so i thought if i addressed the item to me at my factory, it wouldnt get blocked at customs but since my luck is super ugly, it got blocked at Johor pos laju customs and i received the poslaju notification to go and collect the item. I called the customs office there and tried explaining that the destination address is a free trade zone and the customs officer asked me if it was personal or for company use....i freaked and said it was personal. so i'm planning to go and collect it this thursday but the problem is...the item is considered a door lock and at customs site, this is supposed to be 25%/ 10% taxed...i bought this item at USD280! i'm not willing to pay close to RM550 just for taxes...and i've been told i need to go to Sirim to get clearance and all those damn bluetape...I'm no rich guy and had to save like crazy to buy this lock for my parent's sake

I thought of going there with an invoice at usd85 and asking for leniency as i only bought 1 and it is not for resale...

I'd appreciate any advise on getting this cleared with minimal hassle and taxes....

this my personal experience. custom officer may ask you to proof of purchase like paypal, credit card statement, internet banking record, i have being asking login to paypal to proof them the item price after i say pay by paypal. your fake invoice may not work at the end. just beware and get prepared.

ymtong...yah...when i called the customs office and was transferred to the customs officer, he did ask me how was the transfer made and i said bank transfer. i dont think there is a way to cheat the actual purchase price unless i make a deal with the supplier to transfer usd85 and then he return the transfer back to me which would just be a waste of banking fees.

laptab...anyway for me to check about sirim approvals? this items has electronics but runs off 4 AA batteries...

has anybody had experience with tax reduction methods?

maybe you know some friend using paypal and you transfer to him 85usd wait after settle then refund by your friend, because paypal has 60days refund period. and no extra fees. just my thought.. never try.. hehe..

I'm planning to bring in some tablets (got wifi, no 3G)

does anyone know how much does SIRIM charge?
*
will not cheap. need too many document for test report. each frequency one full test report, i assume your device will have WIFI, Bluetooth, Radio, TV, infrared etc. each type of frequency need one full test report and some other document. most of the china pad device in market has no sirim.

Sirim still require for the full test report and application, if i'm not wrong, it will cost you RM8000+ for 1 frequency test report + other application charges total will more then 10k for one device, if you have black / white color device, they will consider 2 application because the model no will not same. you can check with some runner who special on sirim application. i know this because i did ask from a runner before.
