Into Foreign Customs, May 22, 2008, 4:23 pm, MALAYSIA
Out of Foreign Customs, May 21, 2008, 12:13 pm, MALAYSIA
Arrived Abroad, May 21, 2008, 11:14 am, MALAYSIA
International Dispatch, May 17, 2008, 11:08 am, NJI
Acceptance, May 13, 2008, 9:30 am, RICHARDSON, TX 75081

weird thing is it should be Into Foreign Customs the Out Foreign Customs right? last time i checked it was cleared the another day it's still in proces by custom. i check for GPS unit cannot find any in the tarif code

UPDATED:

smile.gif Finally after went to custom office, i made some respect argument with the officer. Yes he said need to get AP but the AP is like RM 250? since it falls under telecommunication. Need to go sirim get the approval. after some long conversation with the officer, he just let me go and only "10% tax" . and the tax is off record. Without much choice left, i just paid him 10% tax to him to avoid those 'SIRIM' approval... icon_rolleyes.gif

Some yes, some not.

Such as hp pouch, plastic covers... etc. Mainly are taxable.
Electronic parts, some are some not. Some may even require import license.

What tariff code did he use on your GPS device?
I suspect you've been conned by the officer.

I've checked and find out you are quite lucky or the officer is just plain greedy tongue.gif
http://www.customs.gov.my/html/186%20Compendium.htm
GPS devices should have Sirim permit with 10% sales tax.

yes i think abit lucky or otherwise it's a pain in the a55 since it need for sirim approval. some more the item is in JB and i think sirim need to go to Shah Alam right?? i'm still in the dark what kind of item that need an approval permit? so troublesome those AP. why not we just pay 10% tax...end of story

now i dont worry much about tax. the import permit (aka Sirim) is the tough one. now i dont bother to try import those handphone/iphone anymore. too risky. last time i was lucky, the officer let me go by just paying the tax. if not need to go thru sirim certification and it will cost alot of time and money for it.

SIRIM is usually applicable for products where:-
1. Requires electricity from the main socket. (Hence most appliances operating from dry cells do not require SIRIM)
2. Telecommunication Devices (radio/satelite)

So why SIRIM?

So that your appliances won't short circuit, burn your whole house / whole kampung.
So that your handphone won't interefere with other telecomunication devices.
So that you won't hear what the police are chatting on their walkie talkie.

etc. etc....

It is tedious... YES
It is costly.... Depending on the quantity you're importing. Because 1 permit can use for all item of the same model, and depend on how you apply it, could be used for several consignments (must be same model la).
So if Nokia imports 2000 units of N95, RM250 (sorry not very sure bout the cost) / 2000 = RM0.125 per handset.
*
so can use back the previous AP to import new item but with same brand and model? so is this thing correct?

1. Approved by SIRIM = > Can issue AP. what about if AP only with nothing to do with Sirim certification like my automotive LED bulb last time?

I bought some watches from www.tokyoflash.com last year and I rcv the item within 7 days without paying tax and the AP from Sirim.  Not sure it is becoz of my luck or what.

consider lucky i guess. like my case. 1st shipment arrived without any trouble. No tax no AP permit. straight to my house. 2nd shipment stuck at customs for tax and AP. same thing, same brand same model, same origin

yeah, I pay RM200 for single PDA phone that would control nuclear launcher  shakehead.gif
*
can share the sirim procedure? is just fill in the form and pay 200 like that for sirim fee to that custom officer? no product testing+certification from sirim? settle 1 day like that? i used to hate of paying tax, no honestly not anymore, really piss off that AP thing + sirim approval.

ok
If the item was detained (in my case h/p), straight to Sirim Shah Alam, bring the detained statement/letter. Dont go LCC-PMK (Pejabat Mel & Kurier) because POS wont allow the item retreive out, I already look for 'nego' they wont bother. The Pos staff (in room2) tell me Iv no choices because my packages was opened even my friends write 'a GIFT for FRIENDS", and it was recorded.  sad.gif

Then I go to Sirim with komuter and stop at Shah Alam, I take cab to Sirim -Seksyen 2. Once get there lend your driving card to counter and proceed to Building no 9, thx to Security that point me the building. Geti inside building 9, take your Q' number, fill the form at the counter. They give me 2 form to fill up. Iv to pay RM200 firm and they give me receipt, and contact number with AP file number.

The process of AP is 24 hours, due Im late to get there my AP (arrive there 3pm) I have to call next day. So best is to get there early morning so they can accomplish soon as possible. There are no way to speed up the AP process because Sirim have to wait Customs respond for each transaction.

Next day, I need to call the contact to get the AP number, jot down the number and bring it to LCC-PMK to claim it. Due workdays Im not yet retrieve the item  sad.gif .

Its very troublesome, they should integrate Sirim and Customs in one building

For public transport users, you can take komuter and disembark @  Shah Alam station (trip around 30 min), taxi cost is RM5 one trip.
*
i feel you man sweat.gif . if the story always like this, i dont bother to import any more goods. need to import wisely to avoid sirim/ap

telecommunication item (phone, GPS, radio, etc) is kinda hassle to settle it with customs. yes you need some kinda sirim shiat approval for that and its not free. RM 200 -300 like that. last time i rayu to the custom officer just let me have my GPS and i pay the custom tax (since its above RM 500). fortunately he realease the item and i pay RM 50 for it.

Can some one enlighten me why recently I bought an LCD monitor (not exactly a complete set), it comes with LCD panel, circuit, invertor got 10% tax? total CIF value is around RM 350++. I understood anything below RM 500 (CIF) is tax free except, liquor, ciggy etc.

Paid to DHL upon delivery to me and dont have a chance to speak directly to the custom officer.

I got the official receipt also from custom. should i wrote a complaint to them?

They charge you for Suruhanjaya Tenaga (ST) approval. Television and projection are required ST approval.

if that's the case then why I asked custom thru email they didnt mentioned anything on that? it looks like there's a missing link between ST and custom.

and some more previously I have imported a lot of battery charger which use the 110-240V outlet. No problem so far, no ST approval and no tax. Was it because of its CIFC value which only worth <RM 50?
