hey guys was wondering... why some sellers refuse to mark item as a gift...
*
I think this is because they are by law they have to declare the goods they are sending (Usually companies/stores have to do this). Another thing is for the insurance claim. Correct me if I'm wrong biggrin.gif

Sorry, i dont quite understand what u mean in 1st sentence..
does 2nd sentence means if item is declared asgift, and if it gets lost /damaged, no insurance claim will be entertained?
thank you
*
Sorry for the late reply, I think right now Kastam doesn't care if it is written as gift or not, as long as the taxable item cost and the shipping fees is not more than RM500 (sometimes over RM510~ a bit i think Kastam doesn't mind biggrin.gif) the item will be released and delivered to your home. The amount to tax is based on what is written on the delivery form. If the form just states gift but no value, I think can lepas Kastam biggrin.gif.

The problem why they write the cost is that some seller is afraid that people will scam them by saying the item is not delivered. Therefore they need insurance. In regards to insurance claim, they will be entertained as long as the cost is written on the delivery form, but some postal delivery has limits on their insurance claim (usually USD100 I think).

QUOTE(subrok007 @ Jul 15 2010, 09:07 AM)
simple question here...

i was about buy some stuff from US, using express main international, my question is does this shipping method directly ship to my door? meaning i no need rush anywhere to get my thing....

buy some stuff from ebay... using express main international
*
Yes the all delivery should be directly to your door but if got taxable item, it will be held at the LCCT Pos building there. But usually the express main international usually need somebody to sign to get the item. If not they will leave you with a notice to get the item from them. Usually Poslaju division will handle the items.

Just for everybody's information, I think most items will be taxed at 10% + 5% (service tax?) of the cost + shipping value. So if you think the item is more than RM500, just get ready to pay around 15% of that amount. Pos Malaysia will only accept cash or check only. (I sudah kena want to pay by credit card but no such service. Have to walk to the LCCT terminal ATM machine to get my money.. cry.gif )

ok thanks for help out...
wat u mean that highlighted sentence? means if i not at home, poslaju will leave a notice then i collect at post office?
*
Yes. Because from my experience, express mail anywhere in the world will need to be signed so that the postal service in other country can confirm that the item has been delivered. The equivalent service in Malaysia is Poslaju, Japan is EMS (Express Mail Service) I think. Hope others can correct me if I'm wrong.

From this site :

I think your powder have a chance to get thru if they packed carefully...no specific prohibition on powder...

oic.... thanks

actually i going to buy some pc hardware from ebay, if total my stuff is exceed RM600 will it be tax? because i heard below RM500 wont tax...
*
Computer items or PC hardware I think is tax exempted. But if electronic items/device like mobile phones I think kena tahan because have to check with SIRIM, pay some license sticker fee (I think RM100+) or something then can get the item. Here's hoping your seller will write it as PC hardware. If not the situation would be your item will kena tahan kastam. Then you have to go explain what it is. If you convince Kastam it is for PC, then you can bring back your item. Wasting time but that's the rule (My friend last time kena, waste petrol and time going to LCCT).

Again anybody please correct me if I am wrong as this is my experience in the last few years. Hoping we can get latest updates on importing stuffs biggrin.gif

by the way, anybody know any parcel forwarding with australia address ?

Thank you in advance
*
True, but if the Kastam cannot identify the item (no details on delivery form/invoice on the package) and its written there cost + shipping more than RM500, sure kena tahan biggrin.gif. Usually have to go there open box show them and explain what it is.

yes now I confirmed is correct one. Now waiting for them to tell me how much the tax. I told them is RM150 value, but will they simply tax me?
*
I think you need an invoice to show them the price you paid for it. If ebay, I think got invoice you can print and show the total you win. But how come kena tahan? Very big package? shipping expensive?

I not sure why also...I also wish to know. Sunday till now everyday call them to ask how is the status but they SLOW LIKE HELL!!!! anyway i can speed up the process?
*
Actually Pos should send you a letter/notice saying your item is held at Kastam. It will state there all the things to do like pay Pos to settle it for you for a fee (so total is tax + 49.50(Pos's service charge fee) or go to the LCCT to settle yourself. Any letter or notice received yet? If not better wait for it first. You called for status of the item what did Pos say? Did you already pay?

I called and they keep saying passed to department to decide the tax fee.....4days to decide meh? haiyo...

mine product is long dress....what is the tax rate ya?

Added on July 21, 2010, 3:11 pmnormally need how many days to clear the parcel from custom ar? sunday till now still the same....will it be faster if I go direct to the custom?
*
Dress usually 30% I think. I think they need to process step by step:
Pos has to go Kastam settle > You have to pay Pos the tax + service fee (49.50) > Pos deliver your item to you house.

Better go straight to LCCT. First you have to go enquire at Pos Service counter. Then they ask you go Kastam counter to get parcel. Then go other counter to open parcel (you have to open it in front of the Kastam staff). Then go back to Pos service counter for counting how much to pay tax (If kena tax). Then pay at Kastam payment counter. Then can bring home parcel. All of this is happening in the same building (Pos building beside LCCT building).

What should i do ? I thought i was not taxable for items under RM500 ?
*

That is bullshit. 15% of RM500 is not RM262.
*
How much is the brokerage fee UPS set for helping you process the tax? That's the killer there. Same as Pos Malaysia ask a fee of RM 49.50 for helping you pay tax on your behalf..

If it is already 1.5 years ago I think the item is already sent back to the sender if there is a return address. Do you have the documents saying to come to custom to take the item? If not then I think it is very hard to claim as you have no reference for the custom to check.

QUOTE(Yulina @ Aug 3 2010, 12:37 AM)
HELP!!!
My goods shipped from Korea to Malaysia. (skincare) I received a call from 03-8787 2020 telling me my parcel is held by Customs. The lady on the phone told me to go and declare it. Before go, please call Pos Malaysia.

So is this number from Pos Malaysia or Customs at KLIA?? Should I call Pos Malaysia or can actually straight away to KLIA to declare my goods? I need to prepare an invoice? Can I ask from my supplier to prepare an invoice for me and I print it out to show the customs?

My goods is around RM900- RM1k after shipping fees added...But I don't know what's the goods value my supplier written on the form. I already asked her and waiting for her reply.

Anyone with experience could help me about the procedure?

By the way, the retention reason of my goods is High-value goods. Official customs declaration required.
*
Do they give you anything when they called? Like reference number etc.? Just call Pos Malaysia first then maybe you can decide to go to Custom. Just make sure that you get all the info before going there. I received a letter asking me to collect so to me that's black and white info there..

Yes, I got a ref.no. And confirmed it's from Customs. Why do we have to call Pos Malaysia? Is it in case we want to appoint Pos Malaysia to be our agent?
*
Actually Pos Malaysia is the handler for your package once it arrives in Malaysia. Therefore you have to clear with them whether to get it yourself or appoint them as agent. Anyway, since you have the ref no. better just go LCCT and settle it yourself. Pos Malaysia is in the same building/area. Usually Custom will ask you to go to Pos Malaysia Customer Service counter/office to get some documents first. After that depends on the item, if kena tax (after opening/checking) you have to go back to the Pos Malaysia counter to ask for total tax, then go pay at Customs.

QUOTE(takuya999 @ Aug 6 2010, 02:14 PM)
Hello

If you buy from overseas, does not matter any website, will most definitely be taxed.

1) laptops are expensive items in nature

2) Customs like to hold or "target" electronic items such as laptops, hand phones, sometimes gps.

You may get away if you can give a valid reason such as it has been used, or etc. However, the probability is  VERY LOW especially for electronics stuff.
Just want to inform you all my experience

Last time I had purchased action figures from overseas. Custom gave me call and tell me the amount that I need to pay. If not mistaken, I was charged 15% of the purchase price of the value the seller declare for tax +RM25 for handling fee. Being a newbie at that time, I agree to it. I had to faxed and sms to confirmed the payment of tax and handling fee. 2 Days later, the items were sent to my doorstep and i need to pay on the spot (they were using Kanggaroo service)

Wonder if the seller declare very low value, I just need to pay 15% of the value stated or do customs have a "standard value of items"?
*
Do laptops get taxed since since in my opinion computer related items should be tax-free?hmm.gif

On your question on item value, they will inspect the declared value on the packaging. But usually it is up to the Custom whether to hold or not your items. Let's say your package is big box but the item value is low. Maybe they will hold on and ask you to come to open it or provide them proof that that item value is as stated.

Guys, I have a problem.

I ordered just some cables (RCA, Toslink, etc) from Monoprice.com, totalling to about USD$180 (about US$70 shipping)

However, UPS called me this morning (5 minutes ago) and said that I have to pay a tax of RM280?!!!

I seriously went, "WTF?" because I do not know that I will be charged almost 50% tax! Now, what do I do?
*
I think it's tax + UPS service fee. I think previous replies to this thread mentioned the same problem with UPS exorbitant fees. Maybe you can deal with UPS to pick the item yourself at the Kastam to lessen their "service fees"?

They already took the liberty of taking out the item from Kastam department already, I think.

What kind of 'service fee' are they charging.. RM180?
*
Maybe you can ask them to list out the fees they are charging or where we can get that information.

Some links while searching for the fee cost mentions that even though no tax also UPS charge brokerage fee

http://www.rossde.com/UPS_sucks/

Some not so positive reviews on UPS

Wow shocking.gif . Next time I have to keep in mind on couriers fee charges especially UPS hmm.gif

All I can say is you just have to go there and try to bring the invoice or any hardcopies mentioning the sale. Just be prepared by bringing around 15% of the cost and shipping of the item for tax. Just in case biggrin.gif

Once you got the package check if got Customs chop there. Most item they inspect a bit (read the invoice?) then they stamp it then Pos will send you the package..

RM49.80 is the service charge/fee from Poslaju agent. They will find out how much the Kastam will tax you and you will have to pay at the nearest post office of your address. Therefore, you will have to pay Rm49.80 + tax. The tax should be 10% from the amount noted on the invoice+shipping fees.
