Hi.. I got a friend from USA who is selling his phone and I'm interested to purchase it...
So if my friend ship the phone via UPS or FEDEX, will I be taxed?
It's a "used" phone, not a brand new one.
Will I be charge the usual SIRIM tax (RM300) regardless of the phone condition?

Your phone will still need the approval and the permit to import. So there is no way you can escape the charges from SIRIM. nod.gif

It's tough to say when it comes to scenario like this and the only thing you can do is to pray hard that the custom officer who is in charge of inspecting cargo at your goods arrival time is sleepy or practice leniency. We have quite a variable number and amount of stories that deals with similar goods that get charged sometime and some not. Depends on luck and your negotiation skill.

If you have already check this with BPFK and they approve, then the next step is to request for import license.

Hey guys. Bought a laptop online from the US via USPS a few weeks ago.

Tracked it today and these are the latest entries:

Out of Foreign Customs, April 27, 2010, 10:24 am, MALAYSIA
Into Foreign Customs, April 27, 2010, 10:11 am, MALAYSIA

Does this mean that my parcel is out of customs and won't be detained?

EDIT: WOOT MY PARCEL ARRIVED OMGGGGGG

Only in Malaysia will you be happy that your parcel has arrived when it's meant to. Other countries take this for granted.
But meh, I don't give a damn my laptop I bought for RM4.5k online which retails in Malaysia at 10K arrived. No tax, no nothing.

Hi, need some advice here.

I wanted to buy some apparels since Levis are having good sales. Total cost is $83 USD including shipping. Would tax be applicable to the purchase as I've heard below RM 500 is exempted from tax. Would love to hear from anyone who has experience this before.

Thanks. smile.gif

Need specific description of the items you want to buy, website link of the items that you want to buy is most preferred. Never hope too high your items will not be taxed because under RM500, customs will use 'minimum freight charges' for shipping charges which looks too low.

Hi thanks for the quick reply.
Our plan was to buy and ship to our dropshipper who will then combine some of our other goods which have arrived at the warehouse. Other goods are a Watch and a Rayban sunshade.
We plan to buy 2 pair of Jeans which Levis have been selling and combine with a 30% coupon on top of the existing 25% sales, it's very cheap.

Approximately 83 USD to ship to address in US and from US combined with all items, including insurance would be around $45 to ship from warehouse to Malaysia.

Total items would be:
Watch - 59 USD
Rayban Glass - 159 USD
Levis - 83 USD
Shipping to Malaysia - 50 USD

Looking forward to your advice. biggrin.gif
