When we are roaming. Will calls that go into voicemail be charged as well? Because while I was abroad, I disable all incoming calls and none came in. However I was charged more than RM30 for incoming calls.

Yes, voice mails are chargeable.

Yes, it is stated at digi website (i think at tnc in roaming page ).
And this is standard (3gpp) ...
U should disable voicemail before go roaming..

What about if we set Unconditional Divert to Voicemail before leaving Malaysia?

This one should be ok. as the call din route to oversea before go to voicemail.

1) call forward to voicemail when user unreachable flow:

incoming from party A find B --> HLR --> location B(oversea) --> B not reply/busy/unreachable ---> Location B(telco at oversea) will send call forward to digi voicemail service

This assuming that YOU are calling to voicemail.

(b) you never attach to oversea telco when u reach oversea

incoming from party A find B --> HLR --> digi network --> B unreachable ---> digi network will send call forward to digi voicemail service

This should be free.


2) call forward unconditional to voicemail flow:

incoming from party A find B --> HLR (oh, whoever call me pls go voicemail) --> voicemail

the problem isn't with voicemail, but how malaysian telcos charge for voicemail. the charge is based on your current location or last detected location.

let say you turn on your phone briefly in japan and then off, all subsequent incoming calls will go into voicemail and you will be charged incoming roaming rates for japan, even if you are back in malaysia but didn't switch on your phone.

in other countries, there is no charge to the recipient for calls going into voicemail, you will be billed only when you call and listen to voicemails. in malaysia, you will be billed first regardless whether you pickup and listen to your voicemail later or not.

digi the only operator allow disable voicemail using USSD.
