debonairs91 apparently the slots for the tuna auction get snapped up by 3-3.30am nowadays. To me, needing to sacrifice essentially an entire night of sleep just to see 10mins of a dude shouting and ringing a bell is madness.

QUOTE(chinti @ Jun 20 2017, 09:23 AM) nice experience la if u nv seen it b4, the auction go super fast 1, the guy shout shout shout then suddenly sold d lol I will respectfully disagree. I visited the auction many years ago when the queue time was ~4.30am, so I still managed to get a half night of sleep (plus only need to wait around an hour sitting on the floor in that hall), and even then i thought the reward of seeing the auction in person wasn't worth the sacrifice.Don't forget that if you're in the 2nd group, by the time you come out all the sushi restaurants will have long queue d. And also because you only had very few hours of sleep, the next day gonna be cranky and tired unless you detour back to hotel and nap. |

QUOTE(sweet_pez @ Jun 29 2017, 09:23 AM) Not a Pokemon fan but I didn't know Sunshine City is such a huge complex. Very keen to check out the place! I went sunshine city on my first trip to tokyo. aside from the pokémon, i remember the namjatown "theme park" (sort of) was quite interesting. there's one shop there where can try some "miracle fruit" that after you suck suck, then it makes sour stuff taste sweet, feels weird to suck on lemon and it taste like lemon candy. then also got gyoza stadium (aka food court) and cup ice cream museum with all those super weird flavours like snake, chicken wing, ramen, soy sauce etc.[edit] oh and ikebukuro also has ikefukurou owl "cafe" ... it's not an actual cafe, just a small shop with like 20 owls inside then you can go in and pat their heads and get them to perch on your fingers. QUOTE(90929155 @ Jul 10 2017, 10:29 AM) FYI, I will be there during winter season. From what I can imagine in the Disney are those cartoon characters which looks childish to me. LOL Disneyland is more for kids and the young at heart and is probably quite close to what you are imagining. Disneysea is more for older teens / adults, and it uses the more "grown up" elements of Disney franchises. If you're a fan of theme parks it's probably a must visit at least once. |

QUOTE(bearyteddy @ Aug 1 2017, 11:49 AM) unlucky for me, i've booked my very first flight to osaka via airasia. in dilemma whether to pay for hot seat and extra leg space or not since the flight hour is so long. any advice? Pay lar. I sit AAX long distance will always buy the exit row seat with no chair in front. Then can stretch legs song song. No point (IMO) to save that measly few tens of ringgits on a thousands-dollars holiday and then reach destination legs pain knees pain muscle cramp etc. |

QUOTE(Jet23sky @ Aug 1 2017, 04:37 PM) Thanks everyone for the feedback. Really appreciate it, Just one more question, you guys usually will get the midnight departure ticket so that the time of arrival is actually early in the morning, am I right to say that? To Europe - yes.To australia / asia - no. It's mainly because I am ... not as young as some of you. 7hr overnight flight only really can sleep 4-5hrs, it's not enough for me and i will be tired and lethargic on the first day. the last time i did an overnight to sydney, halfway through the first day really beh tahan and sleep on a bench in the aquarium for 20mins. |

QUOTE(zeese @ Aug 10 2017, 11:32 AM) Hi guys.. Is there any dress code for skiing? Can I use whatever cloth I'm wearing (winter jacket of course) to ski? Best is to rent from the ski shops together with your gear if you don't want to buy your own. You can wear jeans and winter jacket of course if you want. But ski gear the main difference is that it has "skirts" inside at the waist area (so snow doesn't get in to your jacket when you fall), and the ski pants are wide / flared enough at the ankles to go over / cover the boots. |

undertypo JR pass is not worth it at all if you are only staying tokyo area. for tsukiji, if you want to attend auction then must be there by 3am. if want to browse the inner market it only opens to outsiders at 10am. breakfast places open at 6am-ish? but the two popular places ppl will start queueing by 5am+.

QUOTE(undertypo @ Aug 13 2017, 11:57 PM) Then which pass I should get? Just normal single train ticket? I thought you went tokyo few times on work trip liao? Then shouldn't you know these things better than tourists? lol. If just tokyo area and if you willing to plan properly then the x-day metro passes can save a bit of money. But for me I don't bother, I just either buy single tickets or use suica/pasmo.If you traveling out of tokyo like to kansai, nagano, etc then one of the various JR passes could be worth it. QUOTE(sweet_pez @ Aug 16 2017, 01:03 PM) Gosh you're right, its pork katsu. I kept thinking it's chicken because katsu. lol shouldn't it be the other way around, "katsu" to me defaults to pork, not chicken |

QUOTE(nasizwan @ Aug 16 2017, 06:31 PM) Actually, katsu means cutlet or way of cooking using panko (bread crumbs) and is deep fried. So to be honest, it has no default but of course, pork katsu is more common here in Japan than beef katsu or chicken katsu. Hmm but any shop selling "かつ丼" or if in conversation with your colleagues or etc they ajak you makan かつ丼 isn't it automatically assumed to be pork? |

QUOTE(Lynixx @ Oct 9 2017, 03:55 PM) Matsusaka beef's taste is similar to those average beef you can find in market. Among foreigners outside japan, historically only Kobe is famous (for whatever reason). that’s why even today lots of westerners mis-market wagyu as kobe. but among japanese, their so called big three is kobe, ohmi and matsusaka. i’ve tried the first two but no luck to try the third one yet why matsusaka beef is expensive because it famous because of it's name matsusaka. |

RegentCid Hehe regarding food matters please give me some credit ba. Kobe I had 3 times - once in Kobe (lousy one at steakland), twice more recently in SG. Yes, got certificate and everything, I even verified the number on the kobe export website.
The ohmi I must admit I didn’t bother checking for cert though, lol. |
