QUOTE(emment85 @ Oct 16 2017, 11:34 AM) Hi, Thanks for the reply. I was traveling to Tokyo side, is there any train like LRT that travel around the city ? or Bus ticket? Within Tokyo, there's no special passes. Most of the time, local use a pre-paid ICOCA card (like Touch N Go) to go around. 2 of the most used cards in Tokyo are PASMO (issued by Tokyo Metropolitan company) and SUICA (issued by JR). The card can be used across all subways, trains, buses etc. You can also use the card to make purchase in convenience stores eg 7-11, Family Mart etc.Because i search thru online and found 1 package about RM900+ about go and return from Tokyo to Kyoto but there some stop between the station and the train pass is unlimited use. https://tokyocheapo.com/travel/pasmo-suica-...s-tokyo-travel/ https://www.japan-guide.com/e/e2359_003.html If you're looking for discounted ticket/ pass, there is also the Tokyo Metro 1-day/ 2-days/ 3-days pass. http://www.tokyometro.jp/en/ticket/value/travel/ Due to its unlimited use (within 1/2/3 days depending on your ticket), it can help you save up to 100% when you plan your routes well. Using the pass was very convenient and based on my calculation & planning, without the card, I would have easily spent more than double the amount of the pass. |

QUOTE(il0ve51 @ Oct 16 2017, 11:55 AM) Thank you for your info. In terms of the 3 days pass - all the lines under Tokyo Metro subway - you can use it unlimited I had purchase Tokyo Metro 3 days pass. May i know is all metro & subway can be use with this pass? As for PASMO & SUICA, which one is better to use as Touch n Go card? Plan to reload money inside to buy stuff around tokyo no need so much small change For the ICOCA card - doesn't matter PASMO or SUICA. As chinti said, both works the same. Just that they are issued by different company. No worries on restriction - as PASMO card (issued by Tokyo Metro line) can be used on JR Line and vice versa. Rates are also the same regardless of PASMO/ SUICA. When you get the card, I suggest reload 2,000yen as your first time and reload as you go along. 500yen will be deducted as deposit. You can return the card in Airport and get your refund of 500yen. This post has been edited by sweet_pez: Oct 16 2017, 01:15 PM |

QUOTE(il0ve51 @ Oct 16 2017, 03:33 PM) so the tokyo metro pass 3 days/72 hours can be used in all the following? Yep that's right. If you're there for a week, then plan out the 3 days' route/ trip where you'll use the Metro line the most (or go far via the Metro line). Then it'll be worth. Just imagine it this way - 1,500yen for 3 days meaning it's 500yen per day. As long as you travel using the subway with trips worth more than 500yen per day, it's already worth the value! http://www.tokyometro.jp/en/subwaymap/pdf/rosen_en_1702.pdf QUOTE(sairay @ Oct 16 2017, 04:32 PM) between pasmo and suica ....which one is more convenient to return and refund? i read suica can only return/refund at JR station? At the airport. You gotta fly back somehow right? Just return it there and get your refund. |

QUOTE(sacwoc @ Oct 16 2017, 04:44 PM) Have to be careful there....I thought the same as well initially. Then I found one pasmo card in my drawer. Went to Metro station to return it and he told me that I cannot do it in metro because I bought it from haneda airport keikyu railways. Dont even remember when I bought it! Hence I have to go back to haenda or Shinagawa to return and get the deposit. Just keep it! Aren't you travelling to Japan anymore? QUOTE(evilspeculator @ Oct 16 2017, 10:16 PM) I've shared on this before but I guess there'll be no one who will dig through all the pages loll. SIM card that I can recommend: https://hello1010.my/country/asia/japan.html The value is good and line is fast. I used it in Tokyo last month and there were no issues encountered. Optionally if you're travelling in a group of 3 or 4, might want to consider portable WIFI. In the travel group chat, at least 2 have complained having problems with Travel Recommend's connection. As such, you may want to look at other options. |

QUOTE(meghamtaro @ Oct 17 2017, 02:40 PM) Hi there, is there anyone inside the forum who just came back from Osaka or any part of Japan? How's the weather like now? Is it freezing cold? heard it's raining? My cousin is there. Its been raining almost daily for the past 2-3 days. And from the weather forecast (Japan's version is very accurate), it'll be raining throughout this whole week. https://weather.yahoo.co.jp/weather/27/6200.html It's the same in Tokyo, which seems to experience worse - long hours of rain with little sun. |

QUOTE(meghamtaro @ Oct 17 2017, 06:04 PM) Your cousin is in Osaka? Raining? Oh man!. Checked the weather forecast already. It seems like tomorrow is also raining and my flight to Osaka is tomorrow too. Yeshhh he's visiting both Kyoto and Osaka. It's prone to rain in Spring, Autumn and Winter ^___^ bear with it! For the locals, it's a blessing to have rain. Suggest that you to re-look into your itinerary and back up your plan with more indoor activities/ visits. It may be in Japanese, but I'm sure you can interpret it from the pictures and time. This will help you plan your day/ activities better! https://tenki.jp/forecast/6/30/6200/27100/10days.html |

QUOTE(deodorant @ Oct 19 2017, 06:47 PM) Wattt. How come? I thought when you purchase your ticket, on the system you can choose your seats. First time I'm hearing this QUOTE(rotloi @ Oct 19 2017, 11:05 PM) RM2k to Tokyo via MAS? It's EXPENSIVE. Fly ANA, it will cost you between RM1.5k to RM1.8k and it's very very good. |

QUOTE(jo3y30 @ Oct 20 2017, 10:11 AM) I bought my ticket kk-tokyo/tokyo - kk for rm1088 but need to pay for selection of seats. Is that so? Then it seems like MAS is doing something similar to AA.Travelling in February 2018 for 12 days. Now trying to work out the itineraries. Planning to visit osaka/kyoto and tokyo area only. Disneyland is a must. Any good suggestions on how to start my journey? Thanks With 12 days you'll have time to do Osaka/ Kyoto if you want, but I believe you know that the option to travel from Tokyo to Osaka includes either an internal flight/ shinkansen/ bus right? You'll have to prepare another amount for transport from Tokyo-Osaka-Tokyo. Options and estimated cost: https://www.japan-guide.com/e/e4006.html Suggestion to start - you should go down to Osaka first and enjoy Osaka + Kyoto then make your way back to Tokyo. QUOTE(jo3y30 @ Oct 20 2017, 10:38 AM) Yes, that is what i plan to do. Osaka/Kyoto first. Buy JR pass for 7 days. Then the last 5 days will be in tokyo with 2 days in disneyland/disneysea. Hahahahaha surely no problem, because holidays are supposed to be planned to suit the people travelling. As long as you're comfortable with the arrangement, it's alright. Will buy other transport card while in tokyo. Is this ok? i mean the transportation arrangement. See if you can benefit from this: https://www.westjr.co.jp/global/en/ticket/icoca-haruka/ ICOCA card you use in Kansai. Return it before you leave Osaka/ Kyoto and get your 500yen refund. In Tokyo, it is the SUICA/ PASMO card. Same thing - turn in airport and get your refund. |

QUOTE(jo3y30 @ Oct 20 2017, 11:12 AM) Thanks Sweetpez. You need to do more research to understand the difference. I am wondering, can i also use the 7 days JR Pass in Osaka/Kyoto? Or i need to purchase the ICOCA card for travelling in Osaka/Kyoto? I tried looking into the transportation arrangment, but still blur blur about it. JR Pass is the major transportation company and from the website, i understand it suppose to cover almost all the route. Not sure, i need to study on this again. The ICOCA card works like a touch N go. You use it within the city when you travel from one point of interest to another. It can also be used to purchase items in 7-11/ Family Mart etc. The 7-Days pass is for travelling long distance - when you go further or travel out of the city. With the 7 days pass you can ride the shinkansen but not all shinkansen. Read up more about the 7-Days pass here: https://www.japan-guide.com/e/e2361.html http://www.japanrailpass.net/en/about_jrp.html Additionally, check out Klook: https://www.klook.com/activity/1420-7-day-w...l-pass-jr-pass/ This post has been edited by sweet_pez: Oct 20 2017, 11:30 AM |

QUOTE(lucaswjk @ Oct 20 2017, 03:21 PM) recommend ANA also It's abit harsh to say this. I agree the service isn't top notch and the air stewardess sometimes lacking class but I had a fine flight when I did KL-Tokyo and also my return flight from KL to HK. Usually won't get MAS unless there's promo rate. MAS air stewardess, so fcuk*ng lansi, lazy service, racist, summore fat, ugly and old aunty look... ANA air stewardess, young + pretty, the face 24x7 always smile and excellent 5star service As for appearance, it's a +point when the air stewardess looks good but when they don't, I don't have an issue with it. When I flew with JAL, they have a senior air stewardess and she looked about mid to late 40s. However, she aged gracefully and was very professional despite age. QUOTE(coinstar @ Oct 22 2017, 11:30 AM) Guys... After check out at 11:00am I have 12 hours to kill in Tokyo. Appreciate if you guys could advise. 1. Are you getting back to the airport? Seems like you will. Store it at the airport's coin locker or baggage counter (have to pay). The price - Google it. 1. Which station to store 2 big pieces. 2. How to kill 12 hours All reply appreciated. Tq 2. Check the Tokyo map - determine the airport's location and then check surrounding area you wanna visit. Doing abit of research won't kill you In case you're new to the thread, we discourage spoon feeding here QUOTE(soyabean123 @ Oct 22 2017, 07:02 PM) Hi Everyone! I am going to Osaka on early november for 5 days. It’s my first time to Japan. You can get this: https://hello1010.my/country/asia/japan.htmlI bought the RM67 package and had no problem using it in Japan. Give them 1 week to deliver, although I received mine in just 3 working days...! Hello1010 should pay me. I've been recommending them often |

QUOTE(kikimlee @ Oct 23 2017, 10:28 AM) normally u people travel/holiday is how? Depends on your style, since everyone is different. holiday like a king? or save here save there, this one see look see look entrance fee better no go. souvenir no buy just spend on eat Myself personally, it's a mixture. If I find something not worth to pay or wait for, I wouldn't. - Sometimes breakfast via convenience store food, but most of the day I'll have a nice brekkie. Not luxurious but decent like from Doutor. - Occasionally few lunches/ dinners are cheap eg. 500-600yen but there are times I have spent up to 2,000yen for a meal. - Souvenirs : again, very dependent. I bought snacks and masks to be given out to family and friends. Although in Sept over my last trip - told myself no souvenirs except for 2-3 of my friends, I couldn't resist and up buying quite a few hahahahaha #lackingselfcontrol - If i see a nice top/ pants/ shirt knowing it won't kill my budget to get it, I'll buy it. - Accommodation - comfort and decent price - I'm okay. If it's cheap but lacking the comfort I need, it's a no-no (eg. a bed. BED. I prefer not to do futon unless it's winter, because not used to it; the usual AirBnB futon is a little thin). So end of the day as you know, it's up to your own style of spending. No one will scrutinize you however you wanna make use of your money. It's Japan afterall! QUOTE(hidzwan @ Oct 23 2017, 01:15 PM) any recommendation on where to get smaller notes change? 10,000 note is fine. When you're at the train station, you'll need to get your ICOCA card from the machine. You'll get your spare from there. And with 10,000yen note, use it when you buy stuffs in bigger shops including convenience stores. Refrain from using it in mom and pop shops/ small stalls as they may not have sufficient change sometimes.so far all money changer only selling 10, 000 yen |

QUOTE(bHappyz @ Oct 23 2017, 03:26 PM) Will heading to Japan this coming Wednesday for 8D7N with company colleague (8 people of us) You're right, it's very packed. I'm not gonna comment on the Kawaguchiko and Hakone because you're driving and it's within your control to skip any of the places inside easily. Mood is super hype and excited ! Attached is my itinerary which quite packed and subject to weather/energy among our group member. We are driving to Mt.Fuji and Hakone for the first 3 days and the rest of the day will be spending at nearby Tokyo. Any suggested place to have kobe/Wagyu beef which i long waited.. Planning to get G-shock and yoshida porter bag as well btw, would like to buy 3 days pass during at tokyo to save on transporation fee (¥1500) The rest of the day will use Pasmo/suica card. *btw any difference between these card? Any food/goods/snacks/ to recommend ? The itinerary seems packed, we definitely will flexible and more on relax with it. Day 5 - I think you should put a longer buffer time. Don't forget that you're taking the train, and give some leeway to walk and get lost. - I'm sure some of you will walk around Tokyo Skytree since you're there (it's attached to a mall - Solamachi), it's very tempting to shop and look around. - The venue to take the Water Bus is in Asakusa. Might as well in the morning: Tokyo Skytree >> Asakusa Sensoji >> Water Bus >> Odaiba - I have doubts about Nihonbashi due to your tight schedule. It may be do-able but very very tiring. All these travelling takes your energy away. - And there's no way you'll be able to do Akiba or Ueno Park hahahaa Day 6 - Not much comment, seems fine. - But there's nothing much in Roppongi. Day 7 - You seemed to have a really short time. Optionally consider Kamakura which is possible for a day trip. For me, Nikko seems to have a lot to see/ visit and 1 day didn't seem enough. Then again, it's up to individual. This post has been edited by sweet_pez: Oct 23 2017, 11:58 PM |

QUOTE(pillage2001 @ Oct 23 2017, 11:37 PM) Just found it. lol. What were you seeing...? I see the below:https://hello1010.my/japan-docomo-8gb-sim For this, they say need iphone 6 and note 7 and above. Why is that so? I hjave a nexus 5 or a samsung S3 I am planning to use to tether. Is it not possible? How long do they take to ship it out? IMPORTANT : Only usable for iPhone 6 above and Samsung S7 above and Note 4 above Free Sim Card Adapter : Fits Nano, Micro and Standard Slots Not sure about Nexus 5 or Samsung S3. You can try calling them to check. Possible that it's not compatible for lower spec phone. Mine was Note 4 and I also used it on my Note 3 Neo (but i bought the 3GB SIM card, not 8GB) works well on both phone. Give or take a week to receive your courier although I received in 3 days. May depend on location as well, don't buy last minute. |
