I read those reports from Baidu on "coin mining disaster".
Many farms in China already running at very low margin or at a loss.
Power might be low but when you include other operations costs like hiring people, money to ensure authorities don't always do "environmental inspection" on factory space, system uptime, hminign hash difficulty , internet lag etc. For some, they even need to pay hosting/management fee which can be as high as 3 sen per KW.

Only very large self own farms are still operating with profit.
Its not that rosy anymore in china.

Btc difficulty drop might be due to people renting SHA256 hash to fight the civil war, but massive drop in ETH mining difficulty proves that there are many farms shutting down.

What if ETH price fall below 100? Will the difficulty hash drop to less than 2000T? hehehe...

Difficulty drop from about 36xxx to 24xxx now...

Only one rig still running because that rig is also my cctv recorder + coin R&D machine.
That rig only has 2 x 1070 on ETH, 1 x 1080ti on enlargement pill. biggrin.gif

Plan to explore ravencoin this weekend.

If you dont mind closed source miner, go try out t-rex miner, its the fastest closed source for x16r for now. Also becareful of which pools u use to mine.
Btw the company Mineority or group of programmers who design ProgPow shut down after mismanagement. Lots of drama.
*

Dunno there was so much drama in progpow. biggrin.gif
I only heard some coins are considering changing algo to progpow thats why I got interested in it.

Actually I have a theoretical question. Assuming the prices drop to a level where almost no miners are profitable, and maybe 80-90% miners turn off machines, wouldnt that make transactions far longer to complete and network completely slowdown to almost standstill?
*
Transaction still takes the same block time to confirm. It could be even faster as no one is congesting the blocks.
If less people mining, it also mean those that are still mining will be more of the block reward, thus able to offset the lower price of the coin. This is how the coin balance itself.

This is the reason why China dominate mining as they have all the upper hand in reducing the costs of mining.

1) Electric
2) Man power
3) Space
4) Local made ASIC and the brain to design ASIC

May I know how much could a unit of S9i or 1080ti mine BTC in a day ? confused.gif
*
dont bother, can't even cover electric cost and you have to deal with the noise and heat.
but if you really want to know...
assume electric at rm0.57 per kwh
S9i = 14TH bitcoin mining = negative RM9.44 per day.

1080ti can't mine bitcoin, the best profitability coin now is bitcoin diamond(NOT BITCOIN!!!) in which you can earn rm0.80 per day.

If you already have the hardware then take your bet. Buying new hardware to mine now? no no...
Legal Mining is dead in Malaysia. For now.

Tomorrow eth cut 1/3 block reward, see how much hash will go offline. bangwall.gif

I check whattomine base on our TNB rate of rm0.57/kwh.
Looks like most ASIC is unprofitable and takes ages to ROI the hardware.

GPU still profitable on some newer coins but dunno the rush can last how long...

In January last year, after bitcoin reached a record high of nearly US$20,000, a new S9 rig was sold at around US$6,500 through third parties on the market, according to price tracking site camelcamelcamel. com. A year later, with bitcoin plunging to US$4,000, the S9 was priced at just US$250.
*
Ya... someone show me his S9 that costs rm14k last time around Jan 2018.
With the price of coins now, some GPU and coin combination has become profitable already while those earlier generation ASIC all still in the red. cry.gif

Btw, I bought one L3+ brand new for rm300 last month. Just for fun. tongue.gif
Not profitable to mine tho. maybe will be useful to burn off the excess energy from my experimental 2000w solar system.

For nvidia cards :
Cokaroo
Ravencoin
ETHash - Profitable but you have better algo to mine.

For AMD cards :
ETH ... well, with eth over USD170, I would say it has start to be profitable.
