ANS and ANC are two different coins.
ANS is being rebranded to NEO, but you don't have to do anything on your side.
ANC is a coin that will be distributed to all holders of the ANS coin.
You need to claim ANC yourself.

Yes, claiming as in you will be given ANC coins based on the amount of ANS you have.
You can scroll back a few pages to see the calculation by WooTz.
You do not "convert" ANS into ANC, they are given to you as you claim them.
At the moment, I think you can only claim them using their desktop wallet and sending all your ANS there.
Note that you cannot claim if your ANS coins are stored in an online exchange like Bittrex.

Yes, you can just keep ANS on web wallet and secure the private keys.

Can always claim accumulated ANC in the future.

Yes, both ANS and ANC can be traded, remember that ANS can't be divided, take note when you withdraw from exchanges, make it a round number.

Speaking of exchanges. Next pump event should be the launch of Binance on July 15th, it's something like a Chinese Poloniex with multi language support! They'll add NEO and hopefully ANC too.

Finally decided to get my desktop wallet ready.

Don't want to have any downtime so my boot drive is going to be x2 SSD (RAID) and the wallet files will be x2 1TB HDD (RAID).

If crypto prices goes up further, I might get another exact motherboard  as backup. Reason being if motherboard goes kaput, you have to replace it with an exact motherboard if you want your windows that is installed on the harddisk to work without any problems. Of course you can wait for your motherboard to RMA but that would take time.

Will start assembling it tomorrow.....

Yes, NEO(ANS) are shares of the network, so it can't be divided. Minimum is 1.

Only ANC can be divisible.

I still haven't decided on whether to use it purely for cryptos (which is connected to internet only when necessary) or use it as a "safe" computer for any financial transaction. You would need internet connection and syncing desktop wallets. At the moment, my wife's computer is the "safe" one although it is very old and giving some problems. Furthermore, it is 32-bit which doesn't support some desktop wallets like siacoin.

Hardware wallet can only keep certain coins. I have both Trezor and ledger nano S but they cannot hold all the 50+ types of coins I have.

Wah! So good to have company doing cryptos. I'm all alone here in Sibu ( ) but that's ok. 

Clean up your PC first.

Make sure no spyware, keylogger and remote access stuff.

After sync, create a wallet, copy down WIF, you do that by right clicking the address and select view private key. Be sure to keep this info safe and sound.

Test receiving, and sending 1 ANS. Then test recovery by deleting the wallet file and try to import through WIF.

If everything is successful then bookmark the address to deposit more, and delete all wallet info.

Only restore WIF once hardware wallet support is available

It take me few minutes to download the client (4 mb only).
4 to 5 hours to 100% sync with the blockchain for the first time.

1) Unzip, Open and run AntSharesUI.exe.

2) Go to wallet --> Create new wallet database. Key in your wallet name and password. Save the .db3 on your pc. You will need to browse the file and key in password everytime opening windows client.

3) On the bottom left, it will show height 1067220/1067220 ( This is the current 100% sync ) The number will increase as time goes on. Make sure both number is identical to have 100% sync. It take about 4 to 5 hours for the first time. Be patients 

4) On the account tab, you will see your standard wallet address, it will show ANS and ANC balance. Right click on the address to view private key and mark in down on piece of paper. You will need this private key to restore your address if you lost existing .db3 file.

5) To restore address --> Import from WIF --> key in your private key.. Your address will appear there. Let it sync a while to reflect your antshares balance.

6) Transfer antshares from Bittrex to your standard account address. The transfer is almost instantaneous. Your antshares balance will be reflected.

7) To claim antcoin, go to Advanced --> Antcoin Claim . You will see Available 0 and Unavailable XXX amount but you can't press Claim All. Don't worry.

8) The next step is to send antshare back to yourself. It doesn't cost any fees.
Go to Transaction ---> Transfer --> Press the +. Payment window will appear. Choose Asset as Antshares, put your standard account address, total amount to transfer, Press OK and you are done.

9) Now repeat the step 7 to claim antcoins. You should be able to press Claim All. Your ANS and ANC balance will be reflected in Accounts tab.
