Ok, I have completed a simple FAQ on cryptocurrency wallet in the front page. Do inform if any mistakes or anything to add. Thx.

Cryptocurrency wallet FAQs

For cryptocurrencies, there are many types of wallet:
1) Desktop wallet
2) Mobile wallet
3) Online wallet
4) Hardware wallet
5) Paper wallet

In general they all work on the same principle so I will be concentrating mainly on hardware wallet and I will use bitcoin as an example.

FAQs on hardware wallet:

1) It DOESN'T hold any bitcoins

2) It only holds the private key that enables one to manipulate the bitcoins on the blockchain.
- without the private key to the address that holds the bitcoin, there is no way anybody can touch the bitcoins on a particular address

3) You can lose the physical hardware wallet but you won't lose your coins if you have the recovery seed to the private key.
- If the wallet is lost or spoilt, you just have to get another hardware wallet, use the recovery seed to create back the private key, and you're good to go.
- Note : Hardware wallet usually comes with PIN number so it is usually ok even if your lost hardware is found by someone else

4) Recovery seed is the MOST important thing in your whole bitcoin setup.
- Remember that if you lose your hardware wallet, you can still recover your coins if you have the recovery seed
- Remember that what you are recovering is the PRIVATE KEY that enables you to manipulate the coins on a particular address. Your recovery seed is not recovering any coins.
- However, if you lose your hardware wallet and ALSO your recovery seed, you lose everything.

QUOTE
If you lose your hardware wallet and also the recovery seed, you lose everything. Your coins on that particular address can still be viewed on the internet but it will be floating there for all eternity.

5) If someone got hold of your recovery seed, they can steal your coins from right under your nose even if you kept your hardware wallet in the bank vault!

6) You can use your hardware wallet on the most virus-infected malware-infested computer and you are still safe
- The good thing about hardware wallet is that the private key contained inside the hardware wallet cannot be extracted. No virus, trojan or malware can get access to the private keys.
- This is in contrast to online or desktop wallets as hackers can gain access to the files that stores your private keys.

QUOTE(wengherng @ Jul 16 2017, 04:54 PM)
Yes exactly.
Always go into an investment with the full readiness to lose all of it.
It is extremely important to assess one's own financial situation, and whatever you do, do NOT compare with others.
And since all of us here (I hope) are not using our daily dependent funds for cryptocurrency investment, then there is nothing to worry about......just hang on, keep calm, and weather the storm.
It may last a couple of weeks or even months, but no matter how bad a thunderstorm is, it can only last so long, and the sun shines again after that.

My advice is to keep hodling, and at the same time, try to save up as much cash as possible, and wait to pump in once the storm subsides and the dust settles.
You can be sure that by that time, all the whales and smart investors will be ready to gleam through the carnage, picking up all the dirt cheap coins and preparing themselves for the next boom cycle.
*
For new people, do understand where wengherng is coming from. No, I don't mean he comes from a rich family. biggrin.gif

Some of us have an optimistic view that cryptocurrencies are still in its infancy and still have a long way to go. We hope that we are early investors and adopters (well, not as early as some) as many people still are not investing into this space yet. As such, such "deep" bear market is not too worrying and even a buying opportunity for some. Hence also the HODLing strategy.

In the long term, it is hoped that cryptocurrency prices will go higher that it has ever been. Many coins will fail but some might just be like bitcoin.

Do note that there are no certainties in those statements, just hoping for the best. Hope everybody makes money in the long run! thumbup.gif

Did you top up cheap BTC? I just bought some earlier @ around 8000 rate from Luno. If drop further, really must go bank korek out my FD already.

Nope. Still a bit scared to go in. Will wait and see what happens.

I'm thinking the bottom will reach soon but what happens after that will depend on the outcome of bitcoin's war. Damn the hard-headed factions. bangwall.gif

u gotta wait until 1st then.

i think this round hammering is over, already 4th day and strong snapback, on both BTC and ETH.....15days before reaching August 1st.

which i feel that is both coordinated attack. same time whack down, same time snapback.
couldnt be coincidence
*
You think so? If this is the bottom, then the outcome will determine future trend. I'm just thinking when I should enter. Before or just after the outcome. I don't mind catching the rise even if I'm not that early.

However, I think I will buy in this few days, just to keep some BTC (in hardware wallet). Ready to shoot when needed. rclxm9.gif

1700-1800 area a lot of buyers. unless it hovers around this area, then buyer will shift their buy orders down further, then got chance for it to go lower.

battleground changes like weather, nobody will know what will happen tomorrow,
i mark down roughly where to go in, before going in, check again with orders to be sure that buyers are still there.

i think just wait till august 1st.
most likely another round of hammering, then news will spread fear, then it will be super awesomely attractive cheap to buy in.

ETH however is very attractive to buy but thing is ICO dumping coins adding to selling pressure.
cuz $150/$420 is only 36% from peak.
u got 64% discount
*
I see I see. Yeah, I think I will wait for another round of hammering before deciding.

ETH is definitely attractive but I stopped buying after USD 90+ as I needed to channel money to other altcoins.

Guys, a semi-famous guy in recommending EOS. He mentioned that it is a crypto to rival ETH. Have a look at it but no rush. The ICO is running for a full one year! sweat.gif

I believe the crypto scene has much room to grow but none of the current coins can grow 3 million times like Bitcoin did, although 1000x is something more idealistic and realistic at the same time. We won't know which coin will make it so it's good to diversify and most probably 90% of the coins that we chose will fail, so we just need to hit one coin that makes us that 1000x return, covering the losses and making us generous profit in years to come.
*
Yeah, that's why I have accumulated up to about 50+ types of cryptos. However, I recently sold off another two as I didn't see much potential in them (Nexium and POT). As I have to distribute my funds across so many coins, there's not much in each but if some can get 1000%+ gain, it is enough. smile.gif

Logged into Coinhako today and found that my Ether has been stolen!

I don't remember transferring out my coin and no one else has access to that account. What should I do next? I've already emailed Coinhako asking them to check access log for my account.

This is the transaction.

Sorry for the loss. Must always use 2FA.

Note : I will update the front page later on. Need to stress on the 2FA security feature.

Anyone can share what is the advantage of using 2 ledger nano S hardware to store coins separately instead of only 1? Why would someone ever need 2 hardware wallet?

Is it just for security purposes so that losing the key will not loss all coin at once? Other than that?
*
Ledger nano S have limited internal memory. It can only fit a few wallet apps. For example, if you want to store stratis or XRP, you need to install the app into the ledger. As there are many apps, you would need more than one ledger if you hold many types of coins once a ledger memory is full.

Do note that the ledger can be full because of apps, not because you stored 1,000,000 ETH. biggrin.gif

Hope hardware wallet can support more coins in the near future...... vmad.gif

Probably buy on rumours and sell on news. Previous coins also went up before segwit and drop just before segwit activated.

Whatever it is, I'm just waiting for BTC to resume it's upward trend after this war which will lead to other altcoins following it. rclxms.gif
