Hi all, sorry if this topic has been raised few hundred times. But I believe everyone have their own preference and budget.

Let's cut short, currently I have around RM4000 to spend. Can you guys recommend me what can be achieve with that amount of money? Maybe later on when I have extra money, I can spend more but at the moment, lets stick at RM4000 only. Please let me describe what I have in my house

House Type : Small apartment 1000 square feet
Living Hall Area : 15X10 feet
Ceiling Height : 8 feet
TV : LG Oled 55B6T
Media Player : Himedia Q10 Pro
Astro : NO coz I potong already
Current Speaker : LG SH7 Soundbar

Fyi, I'm eyeing on Dolby Atmos system. But I don't think with that current budget, it is possible to achieve that. The cheapest I think is Samsung soundbar which is also around RM5k. But everyone here say that soundbar is a waste of money when it comes to Atmos. Make sense as I also don't like how the sound from my LG Soundbar. No matter what source I used, it will still not sound great.

Looking forward for your recommendation. Thanks
ktek

about 3x4 meter.
u plan the sound for how many seats? denon x1300 or x2300 can do 5.1.2 with audyssey multieq xt for calibrate up to 8 seats.

yamaha im not sure suitable model. can ask other sifus

4k bajet. the av receiver(amp) itself near 2-3k.
so u can buy a pair of front bookshelf spk only.

the spk choice try to get 6.5" size. will helps a lot in movies.
dont forget to buy spk cable. usually not included. u measure the required length.
if hifi shop sell expensive, u can survey car accessory shop. is suitable

yes. 3 seat is ok. my room also 3 seat only.
u can spend less on avr as long the ports and function (atmos 5.1.2 or more 5.1.4) is sufficient. i like audyssey becos it boost dynamic (bass and treble) according to master volume.

pioneer avr cannot.

yes 6.5" should cover ur room enough bass before buy subwoofer. spend extra on spk but make sure u really like the sound produced.

The golden rule for me is: Get good sound first, get everything else second.

I always advice to get the best LCR speakers you can afford first over anything else. Up to 70% of most movies content are reproduced from the front LCR speakers, they are the 3 MOST important speakers in any sound setup, period.

With a RM4k budget, forget Atmos for now. You get a subpar experience if you can't get your bed layer speakers right first. It's the same principle of why buying an Atmos soundbar is just downright silly.
I mean, think about it; cram 7x 2-inch drivers into a cabinet that's barely wider than an iphone 7+ length, what do you actually suppose will come out of it? Shit.
It's hilarious when people try and beat physics.

So RM4k, my suggestion:

- Q Acoustics 3020 bookshelfs L/R (RM1.3k)
- Q Acoustics 3090 center (RM1.2k)

As for the receiver, you'd need to push your budget to RM5.5k+ in order to have a decent Atmos/DTSX capable receiver - which would be the Denon x2300w in my book.
Otherwise, your choice is a basic 5.1 no-frills receiver and that would be a Yamaha rx-v381 which goes for RM1.3k.

You notice that I don't suggest a subwoofer because RM4k simply isn't enough to squeeze in a decent sub. I've been harping over and over and over again if one wants to get a sub, at least get one that is adequate for the room size and one that doesn't fart like a grandma when asked to go loud.

Your space really isn't too big, so you obviously won't need a SVS PB16U in your space unless you want to crack the walls of your neighbors and break their plates in the kitchen or something. You could look into a smaller SVS SB2000 sub in the future for your sub needs, but until then - get decent LCRs first.

Prices are of course retail, so it's up to you to scout around and see if you can get them cheaper or not. Also, always look at 2nd hand sale forums like Hifi4Sale, every once in a while people will let go a nice gem for a very, very low price.

You can consider this speaker package but you 'll need to go for demo whether you are happy with the performance.

Mission VX series.

or this speaker package but more pricey!

Try to survey around for 2nd hand gear or clearance sale from some audio shops and if you are lucky maybe can find some good stuffs at attractive prices but you 'll need to top up for an Atmos avr...

Q Acoustics is a good option too as suggested by sifu Ben!

Thank you all for giving me advice and recommendations on what to get for my Home Theatre journey. I guess I will get the Atmos receiver and the bookshelf as suggested by sifu Ben. I will extend my budget lil bit further as it is better get a good soundsystem and use it for the long run. Its not something that I can afford it to change as when as I like.

For the front and left bookshelf speaker, may I know what is the best way to place it? On speaker stand or wall mount? Or can i just place it on the TV cabinet?

There are only 2 correct ways to place speakers for sound reproduction:

1) Flush mount them where the speaker's baffle is flushed with your wall (this means hacking your wall making holes in them, not possible for most people).

or

2) Use the 1/4 wavelength rule. Read my post here.

Now many people can and will only place their speakers 2-3 ft. off the front wall and 3ft off the side walls. Generally, this is what most people can do in their space.
You can do this and sacrifice some wave cancellation that will occur, but it's better than putting your speakers on the floor or very low on a TV's cabinet like what majority of people will do.

Also make sure the tweeter's height is around your ear level when you are sitting. Doesn't need to be super precise unless you are doing critical music listening, but try to keep it within half a-foot of difference.
A speaker stand is recommended and you don't have to go crazy by purchasing RM2k for a pair stands made of adamantium or some other metal not found on Earth. Most stands around the RM500 mark is more than sturdy and dense enough.

Don't mount your speakers to the wall because the Q3020s are back ported. You either flush mount them or you don't, of which in an apartment means that you can't.
