I want to drill a hole through my masonry wall..
Length/depth is about 20cm...
The hole should be big enough for 16/20mm pvc conduit..

I have hammer drill...which drill bit should I use?
Or have to buy rotary hammer, or any other suggestions?
Tq
*
If it is just normal bricked wall, the hammer drill will do. It will take a bit more effort. Just need to buy long drill bit. However, it is not a small diameter biggrin.gif

When I did not own a rotary hammer last time, I only managed to find long drill bit (10mm I guess) but it was an SDS type. Hammer drill normally use traditional chuck. So, I have to cut a bit the chuck end so that the chuck can grip properly on the round part laugh.gif

I used it for quite a while and drilled many holes with it. Now I have a hammer drill but have yet to do anything drilling like that yet laugh.gif

BTW... my hammer drill was a 750W

renting in klang valley only..  cry.gif  i stay in east coast..

https://shopee.com.my/BOSCH-GBH-180-LI-Rota...2919.2463173572

this is the cheapest one from bosch..is this worthy and capable enough? or better tools in that price range?
yes, i want a cordless one...
*
1) If you want to do one time, then why not just get a contractor to do it for less than a hundred.

2) if you want to have one handy around the house, no need to get the cordless one.

3) If cordless a must but semi-pro, I'd not go for Bosch. Only 6 month warranty for pro version? I'd rather go for semi-pro Stanley Stanley with 2 years warranty like

https://shopee.com.my/STANLEY-SBR20M2K-18V-...0870.2463142657

P.S. No offense to Bosch fan console.gif laugh.gif

1) why not contractor? i just want to do it myself..  rclxs0.gif

already bought that bosch tool at hardware shop...most shops dont have many stanley tools, especially cordless one...
*
Your choice. I also don't like contractor work. Most normally want jobs done quickly as possible hack here and there and make bigger hole than required and then plaster with white plaster laugh.gif

Unless very major stuff, minor one like kitchen ducting, electrical wiring, or anything similar level, I did it myself. More satisfying.

Have a nice DIY thumbsup.gif

dear sifus,

planner to buy a cordless drill for normal screwing and occasionally drilling job on furniture and walls.
I am aware there are many brands and available. Any recommendation on particular model with minimal issue and maintenance easier (brushless type)?
*
For occasional use, even brush type can last for years. They are cheaper too. Maintenance is not an issue either brushed or brushless actually. smile.gif

Just buy any brand that you can get service easily and branded one has many service center throughout the country. I would just go for those on sales and cheaper among those brands with similar feature laugh.gif

No la. Included battery where got so cheap.

Excluded battery and charger.

I have the Worx Hydroshot with battery. So I use that battery.

But 2Ah battery only can run 15min or less for high mode.

Maybe DIY strap a higher Ah 18650 battery on it.  biggrin.gif

that handheld you have in mind; no no. not that shit.
yea i saw; but sadly no wet suction; so the bosch generally beat this even with stronk suction.

worx still need to get market credibility.

If you really into new tool; try Festool.

this one is trades level liking.
*
Worx did not start out of thin air. Maybe the name is not well established but if the company gives product warranty between 1~3 years, then it has confidence. Probably not very long history but not too young also. Right now I think the problem is the cordless product line. China batteries can be anywhere from 1 to 10. Depends on how much the target cost biggrin.gif

No, I don't own any Worx power tool but Worx Pegasus folding table is real deal for me wink.gif

Tools like OPT.

Ego Outdoor Powertool seem to be winning; but cant get it in Malaysia. huhu.

else it could just replace the entire noisy spectrum.

and Hilti - ideal tools for concrete work; wow; the price is crazy!
*
Trade name sometimes mark the price high, not necessarily the best. I'd go for review done by person who are in construction business.

The tool you choose in Malaysia is the one you can easily get it serviced or get spare parts. However. many contractors are just using unknown China brands. They may not last as long but the tools probably at cross point where it is cheaper to just buy a replacement than to repair and wait for spare parts. This is the reality once the cost of labor increase with cost of livings. smile.gif

This is also another reasons why many big names came out with amateur, semi-pro, and pro series; and also produce their tools with sub-contractors in China. Thanks to Trump, now many are moving to Malaysia as well laugh.gif

P.S. At least Worx is still on the chart ... Positec wink.gif

Good Morning,

my >10 years B&D 12v battery almost kaput.
I have check out a few batteries from Ali and Shopee but i doubt with the discharge specification.
This is so hard to decide because the drill is fine but the cost of a new battery is very near to getting new lithium drill..

Does anyone know where I can get a reasonable price and reliable replacement battery?
Did anyone try to swap the NiCd to Lithium type?

Thank you.
Picture for reference.

it is an old NiCd 12V drill using HPB12 Battery.
Battery still available from B&D and it is possible to purchase NiCd battery to diy replace internally. It just the price to get the HpB12 battery is ~RM100 less than getting a new Lithium Bosch. That is why i am seeking to get a reliable NiCd battery locally as the price inc shipping also is not cheap too.

older than this but is a similar series.
https://www.blackanddecker.com/products/pow...echnology/ss12c
Yeah, the charging unit and battery circuit board also need to replace.
The $$$ to replace the battery or upgrade to Lithium is so turn off and the drill unit is still usable...
*
NiCad battery is still good for heavy duty job and has recycle time probably 2x the Lithium. Just that you should not keep them in charged condition.

Have you tried AliExpress. My quick browse saw one around RM72 with free shipping for HPB12. Buy from US shipping sometimes cost more than the product itself laugh.gif

Those giants, nowadays you are likely to pay for the brand tag rather than their tools credibility.

Unless you're saying for their trademark power tool like Hitachi for their nailer, Bosch for their SDS, Hilti for their breaker, etc.
*

and when you pay for brand tag and budget; you want it last. you dont want to have something like proton.
each have their strength.
*
This is mostly true to any product but you also pay extra for after sale services and warranty too, not just material cost. You know the company will still be around at least during warranty period laugh.gif

Big brands sell several models even for amateur and pro series. Basically the electronics side are mostly the same. The branded one use more reliable parts but unknown brands also not necessarily using cheaper parts even though they sell for significantly less price. They need to maintain competitiveness.

They add like coating for water proofing and some even potting the PCBA like car MCU for more expensive model. The cost is not much more but the top series models bear significantly higher price tag. I know because I do costing on products and my company also do PCBAs for Milwaukee wink.gif Anyway, big companies also hve high operating cost compare to smaller companies, thus this cost will go into products they sell laugh.gif

How long warranty brand here? I know Dewalt have like 3 years limited warranty. The most reliable is Hilti, the send people to pickup your broken tools within 2 years.

The so called renown brands, to break 1 to 2 times within 6-12 months is normal, so does cheaper tool, nothing special.

In US for example, they have the latest model, offer 2-3 times cheaper price than here and longer warranty period.
Ridgid, Hikoki is lifetime warranty. 5 years Milwaukee warranty, etc. If you follow Milwaukee fb group page. They tend to do 1 to 1 replacement for broken tools.
Thats reliability.
*
Every country has different warranty. Why? They pay different price. That is why warranty is different from country to country.

The rotary hammer just too hard knocking. No soft mode, at least mine laugh.gif . Will likely break the tile.

I'd say it is pretty safe using normal hammer drill. Like mentioned, hollow space behind tile can cause breakage on tile. The empty space behind tile usually near to tiles joint not the center. So, if you are not in rush, just use tile bit and change to hammer once you have hole through tile. Good to have at both drills smile.gif

I watch those YouTube videos. They use cordless drill also like so easy 😅. But I’ve experienced before using cheap corded hammer drill with tile bit. Niamah it took me half an hour for one hole haha. The bit also pecah in the end
*
Ahh... forgot to tell that I was talking about porcelain tile (wall tile), not the ceramic floor tile like ozak explained.

Well, you don't use hammering action with tile bits. The porcelain tile bit is normally the spade shape one. The ceramic one is using diamond one, but then no hammering action just normal drill. smile.gif

Yes. The concrete one I'd say good for 1 or 2 holes and then will take long time for a single hole. Later you'll learn why people pay for more expensive one. Just buy the one you need like #6 which is mostly use. No need to be too expensive smile.gif
