QUOTE(mrtiny @ Sep 17 2018, 11:54 AM) Guys. Lets say i choose to have this stock. Every year no miss in dividend. Plus this year giving out as high as 12% dividend. But the company is not so big la. Just so so. What do u guys think? Got future? Depends. If dividend yield 12% but your capital gain is a loss at -20%. You actually lose even if you get the dividend.[attachmentid=10024997] High dividends but so-so performance can also mean the firm has too much money but no projects to invest in. Firms usually only give out dividend if they cannot generate a higher return than the cost of equity. So shareholders rather have their money returned back to them so they can invest elsewhere. If it's a one off case, firms usually issue special dividend to indicate that it's only once (usually cash from gain of disposal of assets), so shareholders should not expect it next year. A firm with low dividend can mean they have a lot of good projects and they rather use the cash from profits to reinvest. See pecking order theory (finance) |

QUOTE(w3sley @ Sep 18 2018, 09:37 PM) How about Mah Sing? It looks good for long term and now seems like on a discount It is unlikely EPF knows insider information unless they have board members in the company. They make judgement based on what the government will do next or whether they think the industry will do well. If you have been to a board meeting with EPF as a major shareholder, there will be a representative from them asking why the performance this year dropped etc etc. So, if they do know insider information, they probably won't be asking this. Furthermore, trading on insider information is actually against the law.(Added) Anyway, It seems that EPF is disposing this share every week. Does EPF have insider news or special privileges when it comes to trading? They in and out counter very frequently..any idea? |

QUOTE(silverwave @ Oct 13 2018, 09:06 PM) I was just wondering, with the upcoming recession, should i sell off my shares that are making some profit first and keep the cash? When the market drops more, then i reinvest? No one can time the market. If you can time then you already become the world's richest man.Been playing for a few months only, so i wanted to know whether it is a good idea Even if the market crash, you will be too scared to enter because you keep hoping it crash even more so you can get a bigger discount. By the time you can even buy, the market already recover and you missed the boat. It's really up to you. High risk, high return! |

QUOTE(mrtiny @ Oct 15 2018, 11:41 AM) do u guys think if we buy TOPGLOV now.. then once get the bonus share. and sell it at profit. can we manage to do that or the counter will go down so fast we not able to do anything/? haha Correct me if I am wrong but there is no gain if you sell because BURSA will adjust the price immediately after the bonus issue. Example the price is RM10 and you have 1000 units (Value=RM10000). After the bonus issue, the price is immediately corrected to RM5. With a 1:1 bonus issue, you will now have 2000 units. Assuming no price change, the value is 2000 @ RM5 so RM10000. This is the same as before the bonus issue. |

QUOTE(Battlefield1942 @ Oct 16 2018, 04:12 PM) Yesterday The Star on TM. Do you all think TM got any chance to recover back to 3.7 level as I bought a lot of Tm stock at 3.7. Should cut the lost and switch to other stock or continue on the journey with TM? I suggest sell now before the budget is released and before TM is no longer in the Top 30. The new taxes will definitely hurt the market and once TM is out of the Top 30, fund managers will no longer hold it. |

QUOTE(GenY @ Oct 30 2018, 06:19 PM) The bear market is already here lah. Except for some index linked stocks, most stocks are trading at 20% discount to their 52-week highs. Some quality ones, even at 50%-70% discount. I never experienced the 1997 and 2008 financial crisis but my father who had experienced both, is holding almost 95% cash now waiting for the actual crash.Just to be clear, there is no economic crisis, no bubble burst, no dread disease spreading world wide, no world war. Only trade war and lack of confidence due to the crap coming out of politicians' mouths (not just Trump). There could be a very sharp rally if Xi and Trump agree on at least a ceasefire when they meet at G20. According to him, a true bear market is when you wake up everyday, stocks keep falling. And I do mean by a lot. Like falling 3% a day, fall 5% the next, up 2% next day, fall 4% the next day. Eventually those who buy early have to sell to cut loss as if they caught a falling knife. When it's near the real bottom, you wished that you weren't in the market so early and had tons of cash to invest. Of course it is difficult to time the market but there are a few strategies. A few predicted that the actual crash will happen around April-July 2019. Right now we are just experiencing the beginning. Sears in the US has just declared bankrupt this month. Surely the spillover effects will bound to happen, it is just a matter of time. |

I wouldn't buy immediately but wait for the second or third day to get an even cheaper discount because institutional investors will not sell all in one go.

QUOTE(Lyu @ Nov 8 2018, 09:28 PM) Hi... I tried to google it but couldn't find the answer Look at the share code. If it's a number like 1163, then it's ordinary shares. If it's 1163PA, then it's preference shares. EA is ETF. Warrants have different codes too.AAX, Matang is what type of shares? Is it ordinary shares? equity shares? AAX and Matang is all ordinary shares if no other code beside it. |

QUOTE(Kjk014 @ Nov 12 2018, 06:43 PM) Just wondering, why POS are not ‘hot counter’ by looking at its current price n volume? Nowadays everyone buy things online n use their courier service. POS revenue n net profit is quite huge too. But why the chart looks dull n not promising? Anyone hv opinion? Price should not be used as a means of comparison alone. RM0.05 stock looks cheap but it's so lousy that nobody wants.According to Benjamin Graham, one should only buy stock with P/E 10-15. POS P/E is 37.56 which is madness especially when it's not exactly a monopoly. Courier services aren't doing well in Malaysia. Look at GDEX stock. Costs are likely to increase when the government removes oil subsidies. I don't think Pos' Malaysia's revenue is actually huge. It's revenue has not grown much. Profits coming down. Dividend has been decreasing. EPS dropping. All these are bad signs. By right, Pos' Malaysia's share price should be around RM0.80 - RM1.20 only. |

QUOTE(jacklew77 @ Jan 5 2019, 04:37 PM) This is not the way to look at stocks. High dividend yield could be because the price of the share has fallen but the dividend is based on last year's dividends paid. If the management pays lower dividends this year, the price will fall further and your dividend yield next year may increase but you suffer capital loss. If your capital loss is greater than your dividend yield, you actually made a loss from investment. |

QUOTE(pw8799 @ Feb 3 2019, 09:30 AM) Hi, i am a newbie here. I am a student now, can i trade in the stock market now ? I am over 18 btw. I dont have pay slip, is it possible to trade in the stock market ? You can still trade. Just need to declare your source of income which is parents or savings.I doubt you have a lot to invest so the fees will kill whatever gains you may make. It's only cost efficient to conduct transactions above RM8000. |

QUOTE(pw8799 @ Feb 3 2019, 04:30 PM) Hi, in the stock market, the stock prices will go up and down. When the price is down, as long as i dont sell off the stock , there's still chance for the stock price to go up , right ? Just wait and sell off the stock when the price is high to gain money, right ? I know this is a simple question, but i am clueless about the stock market , hope you guys can help Not all stocks will rise up again. The reason it rise is because of revenue, profits and dividends. Shareholders expect these to increase. If these increase then only stock price will increase. |

QUOTE(Zackwong6167 @ Mar 3 2019, 09:50 AM) Hey guys, Of course they provide dividends. It's just a matter of whether the directors recommend dividends during financial year. If a company makes a loss and does not have any distributable reserves, it cannot pay out cash dividends.I’m fairly new in stocks (just registered through rakuten trade), I wanted to ask is all the stocks (GENM, AIRASIA, GAMUDA, SUNREITS) provides dividend ? Not just price gains right ? How do we check how much their dividend yield and usually by when ? REITs like Sunreit have to give 90% of their income every quarter because it's required by Bursa. |

QUOTE(lowyat101 @ Mar 7 2019, 05:23 PM) I see, thanks for the quick reply. You can check at their website or call them up. You can usually see your agent's name when you log into the trading website.Meaning that since now the CDS account is with Affin Hwang, I can only trade via their platform right? Also about the % fee, do I need to call them up to check? Or is it available online? Coz I have already lost the contact of the agent who helped to open the account many years ago |

QUOTE(Cyclone1 @ Mar 8 2019, 03:57 PM) Is anyone using CIMB iTrade? Can you teach me how the sell stopLimit work? Let's say I want the system to trigger to queue for sell when a stock drop to 0.5 cents, and then set the selling price at 0.45. Umm. Why do you want to sell a stock at RM0.45 when the market is RM0.50? In other words, when market is at RM0.50 you want to instruct the system to sell at RM0.45? I did once and set as below, but it didn't work as what i have expected. The system sold my stock at 0.50 instead. Trigger: Last Trade Trigger Price: 0.50 Direction: Down Price: 0.45 If buy then makes sense. |
