hi guys,

need some help here, I'm using Archer C5 given by TM unifi. And my pc is connected to it with a TPLink T9e, while I dont hv any problem with the 2.4GHz signal which is always strong, the 5GHz signal is bad, only getting 1 bar signal most of the time. Is there anyway I can improved the 5G signal?

Hi guys,

I'm using Archer C5 now and just got upgraded from unifi 30Mbps to 50Mbps. since then, the speed has not been consistence. Before that I can easily get 30Mbps easily on both 2.4G and 5G but ever since upgraded, I only managed to get 20Mbps for 2.4G and 30Mbps for 5G even though the signal bar shows 4 bar for 2.4G and 1 bar for 5G. how come like that as 2.4G is showing a stronger 4 bar signal compared with 1 bar signal/5G yet the speed for 2.4G is so slow? I have disabled both the IPV6 and Bandwidth control but that doesn't seems to help...

It sounds like there might be interference or congestion on the 2.4GHz and the 5GHz around your location, that could be due to moreof your neighbours using Wifi now. Use a wifi Analyzer app on your phone or download a Wifi Analyzer on your computer. I would suggest the Wifi Analyzer app by farproc on your Android app or Acrylic Wifi for your computer.

Theres no correlation between getting a stronger signal on 2.4GHz and a faster connection. 2.4GHz has better range, but with lower thoroughput, but it’s usually very congested and prone to interference. 5GHz is usually better, with higher thoroughput, to the expense of range, but less congestion.

See this link for more detailed explanation: https://www.howtogeek.com/222249/whats-the-...should-you-use/

ok, just downloaded the wifi app by farproc, will check again tongiht. Thanks for guiding

Thanks to bro SilentVampire, followed your guides and below is what I get...

for 2.4G, no channel congestion, signal strength is 4 bar but no matter what channel I set, speed still sucks, give up liao
Attached Image Attached Image Attached Image

for 5G, also no channel congestion, signal strength is only 1 bar but routers default the channel to 153 which caused the speed to drop drastically but after I set to use channel 44, I managed to get full speed

Exactly the same issue as mine.. same c5 and upgrade from 30 to 50mbps.. only thing is even my LAN connection also slow... dunno whether router or unifi problem
*
based on most forumer's recommendations here, try to disable both IPV6 and Qos(Bandwith Control) first. Best is you use a cat5e cable to test. by right if LAN also not giving you full speed, you will need to call TM, they are obligated to get it fixed for you, good luck

The app can only scan those wifi complaint network but they are a lot more other devices hogging the 2.4Ghz band.

Dect phones, microwave ovens and even some baby monitor all use 2.4Ghz

ah...I see, thanks

I’m quite surprised to see that 2.4 is still so bad. Try changing to 40MHz for your 2.4GHz. That might help.

ok, will try tonight

Hi guys,
Not sure if this is related. but looks like it. Just got upgraded from 30mbps to 50mbps too recently.

I was using TL-WR841HP V1 before this. Wanted to try AC wifi for my new 50mbps line so I bought the Archer C60 V2 AC1350 and a AC600 wifi receiver Archer T2U.  biggrin.gif  rclxms.gif
But after a few days testing, seems like my C60 can't give 40Mbps+ over wifi on both 2.4GHz or 5GHz. Most of the time it hovers around 30Mbps or so.
With LAN cable, I can get at least 40-45Mbps on both my routers C60 & WR841HP. But not on Wifi, it seems stuck / capped around 30mbps, where mostly I get just 25-28Mbps on wifi.
Also tested with my other devices with wifi AC smartphones in the house. (A 2-storey terrace)

Some suggested to disable QoS, but i can't. My router won't work if I do not enable Unifi IPTV.
How to disable the QoS? The checkbox is greyed out if I choose Unifi IPTV enable for C50 V2 firmware. It says QoS and IPTV can't be enabled together at the same time.
Should I use custom settings for IPTV and then enable the QoS? What are the numbers to use for IPTV?

In the end, just using the C60 as repeater to my old WR841HP ..*sigh*  blink.gif
*
did you also disable ipv6 in your router? perhaps if you can be more specific on where your placement of router is and how far away from your router when you do the testing, sifus here might be able to help

changed to 40Mhz but speed still only at around 20Mbps there about... bangwall.gif

QUOTE(SilentVampire @ Nov 16 2017, 12:16 PM)

I don’t think it have anything to do with the placement of the router or IPV6 settings. Might be a firmware issue or his router is not capable of handling that many devices, with result in lower thoroughput.

noted, thanks

yayaya, disable firewall sound scary, especially i got public address enable.

I called TP-Link support, this is new router, with so many known issue, I requesting to return/refund, but they want to investigate first, so far I provide all symptom and info, waiting their response.

From all other Lowyat forum expert experience, the old series C5/C7 still the best and stable. not sure whether I still can get it...
*
I saw some C5 is on sale in garage sale few days ago, used unit, maybe you can check it out

I have both routers, mind you TP-Link C3150 have the same chipset as the Asus RT-AC88U.

Performance is better than the RT-AC68U for sure but it comes with less features.

It depends what is your priority.
*
mind sharing what features/advantages rt ac88 has over c3150 till it can fetch such a huge premium in price?

These features below. If you don't plan on using your router as anything more than just a router, the C3150 is a great choice.
*
thanks for the input bro but what about LAN and wifi stability and reliablilty between the 2? I have also read some where about the MU-MIMO of the C3150 ranked the lowest in terms of effectiveness

I suggest update it to the latest firmware and you may have more features.

MU-MIMO is not useful as it requires MU-MIMO devices. Maybe you can enable Airtime Fairness as it may help a little.

guys, need help. just setup my newly acquired c3150 V2. Managed to get hypptv and wifi working but few major problems, wifi connections is sux and hyptv is buffering. I never had buffering issue with hypptv when using my c5 and I can always get full speed with 5g although 2.4g is bad. But with c3150, hyppty is buffering, 5g can only get 85Mbps while 2.4g is still as bad as before. Even with ethernet lan connection, I could only get 95Mbps the most. I hv already tried restart modem and router a few times but still the same. What could be the problem? any idea?

The only changes made is the iptv is connected to lan port 4 on the c5 while the on the c3150 , it is to lan port 1 and also i hv change the wifi ssid name...

That’s surprising bro. I am using the exact same router to you, and I never have this problem. Did you try updating to the latest firmware? My Hypptv is okay and no problems, and I am running the latest firmware.

Regarding the 5GHz and 2.4GHz WiFi, have you try analyzing the wireless networks in your area? If there is too many congested channels and interference, changing routers won’t help. Use WiFi analyzer by farproc if you are using Android phone and Acrylic WiFi if you are using PC.
*
Is a v2 and that should be the latest firmware right? I did use analtser and acrylic that you recommended previously to set my c5 to optimum and i used back the same channel and settings on the c3150, it shows no overlapping but the wifi strength is somehow overall lower compared to c5.

Didi you adjust any other settings of your router? Ipv6 is set to disable by default and i let it be. Qos is set to standard by default

**P.S. just discovered that hypptv buffers when someone else is using wifi...hmmm...settings issue?

Bro, I have the exact same router as you as you know and have similar settings, and I have no problems. You should have no problems as well. Maybe you can set the 2.4GHz to 802.11bgn mixed and 5GHz to 802.11AC only.
*
bro, can you pls check if I am having the latest firmware? I tried to click the upgrade button but unable to do it as it needs cloud id and I am not able to register for their cloud id, dunno why

Bro, it is the latest firmware. Register here for Cloud ID and you can use the Tether app anywhere you go to remotely manage your router:

thanks for the confirmation bro. I tried to reset the c3150 and re setup again and problem still the same. Switched back to my C5, all back to normal again, no buffering, full speed with 5G. Sighh....dunno whats wrong with the c3150

Bro, try to test around with wifi mode, channel and width. Try to avoid using auto channel and set channel width for 5G to 80mhz if you have not done so. I'm currently setting my wifi mode to n only for 2.4g and AC only to 5g. I can achieve at least 100Mbps for both wifi modes in speedtest. Also try to detach any external devices to the router first for testing purposes and narrow down the issue
*
Wifi wise is ok, acceptable, in fact 2.4g gained more speed but problem lies with lan connection, all lan connection (hypptv and andriod box) suffer buffering, cannot even stream movie. Buffering will become worse when wifi is being used. Seriously unacceptable. Not sure if router defective or settings problem....headache!
