DJI just launched their new so called selfie drone; Spark.
My personal thoughts on this drone are : Excited on the size (folded size as small as a can of soda) The optional control system; via phone and remote control Fall in love with The hand gestures navigation/control Spark's flight performance as below:

Although Spark is pack with nice features but I am waiting for more reviews / comparison with Zerotech dobby.
Standard USD 499 = RM2200 Fly more USD 699 = RM3080 Zerotech Dobby = RM1799 |

i really love the new camera plus gimbal..
compare to Mavic, Spark's gimbal looks more stable and solid.. maybe DJI will use the same gimbal on Mavic 2... |

Spark's non-foldable legs are the biggest set back when they were hyping it up on it's size... it won't be as portable compared to Mavic which can fit in your pocket..

Torn between this or the mavic. What do you guys think? For 499, there no controller that comes with the package, only fly more combo that comes with it and the price is 699, top up 300 usd and I can get a mavic instead

get the mavic if you want more options with the camera and if you know your way around editing apps.
get the spark if all you wanna do is take some photos and vids with minimal editing to post online seriously tho. nothing on the market comes close. the dobby is sh*t |

Honestly, it's a good drone for beginners who don't care about 4K
And actually, this is kinda the drone I've been looking for cos you can charge it with a powerbank! Can bring for long camping trips And that gimbal design and 3D sensing tech on Spark should've been on the Mavic! Seems great for casual shooters especially taking group pictures during travels. However for more professional grade video and photos, mavic seems to be better option despite the price.
16 minutes of flight time is just under ideal conditions, if its windy and stuff. It'll be even shorter. |

does anyone know can the mavic (since same flight system as spark I'm assuming) fly diagonally?
If it does, what are you missing out mainly on a 2 axis gimbal? minus stability of course, and rough transition from diagonal flying to normal. |

This for casual user, Kai review on youtube really show the target market for this device. Really love the small form factor (smaller than mavic) and the hand gesture , i think this going to be a hit. Thinking of purchasing it once it arrived here.

I'm curious how big a difference is the Spark's camera quality compared to Mavic. Some sites claim the quality is much lower, but the sensor size is exactly the same with specs difference is mainly slightly lower MP, limit to 1080p30 and, 25mm f2.6 vs 28mm f2.2.

Still uncertain over which one to go for, Mavic or Spark?
Mavic has longer flight time, better gimbal system, more video quality options. Spark is no doubt more portable and cheaper than the Mavic but it only lasts for 15 minutes~ and only shoots up to 1080p Currently about to step foot into aerial photography and filmmaking, hence I'm deciding which one is worth my money |

saw someone playing it past few days while i'm piloting my mavic..
well for a small drone, it does what it should.. video quality and stability was ok since i think spark is in its own league... conclusion, i would buy it if the price range from RM1k - RM1.5k.. as for now, my Mavic can do everything spark can.. |

i just wanna ask, is it normal for the gimbal motor to heat up after auto calibration? and why does the ip7 gets hot easily after 5 minutes of recording? in 60fps. if reduce to 30fps will it reduce the heat? TQ! |

Just got my dji spark as a birthday present. Happy with it thus far, pretty good video quality although not 4K. Plan is to take this with me hiking to take some sweet aerial shots.
Have not had too much of a chance to really fly it high due to living in the city and have to abide by certain no-fly-zone restrictions in the US (cannot be within 5 miles of airport). Thinking of getting the controller for better range. Have an android - apparently doesn't work as well with android phones as has less functions. |

You can get the controller & battery only bundle at qoo10 at rm955 before voucher if you just need that..with the 15% off, that should be able to bring it down to rm811.

Once start working in SG, purchasing power is damn different compare when work in Malaysia dji combo set will be available in malaysia probably by beginning of aug Some famous shop is local DJI SG, but price will be slightly higher while those much cheaper abit will be DJI china, it come with chinese instruction. Agree wit reseller in Msia, when global just release, I saw the price in Malaysia is crazily high DJI online store do not ship to Malaysia right? So far only did 4 flights, for the image I can say it's on par with S7 edge(*As I'm using S7 edge), have not did any night shot but day shot is good enough, later after work I share picture I took with Spark last week. For video, I just record a 2 min flight, I could say it's good enough but try to minimize using yaw because of the 2 axis gimbal when yaw could notice a slight jitters. Panorama is good, able to take horizontal/vertical and it took 9 picture automatically but it's better to stitch it yourself after taking as DJI app auto reduce the size and quality. Gesture control is a hit and miss, and use with cautious. It's recommend to use when connect with your phone/controller. Even Spark is small size, it could withstand quite a strong wind, my first flight I did it during windy condition but surprisingly it able to hold it position well and the picture/video taken it's all look good. Overall, I would say Spark is a good drone for person who is new to drone and do not mind some sacrifice in image such as Raw and longer shutter speed. The downside is on the range, as it's using WiFi, its very easy to get interference in urban area. |

I've been flying the Spark for two weeks now. Bought the Flymore Combo with an additional battery (3 batteries in total). So far I've gotten a gimbal and 3D sensor protective case, an OTG cable, a short USB type C cable, a backpack, a better phone mount for the controller, a parabolic range extender, some micro SD cards and now I'm considering to buy a cheap, used iPad Mini 2 just to use as a display. If you want to buy OEM accessories for your Spark, just browse Lazada, plenty of stuff there. I'm still eagerly awaiting for the Polar Pro filters to arrive here.
As for the drone, I've only flown twice so I'm still learning the ropes. Quite happy with it so far considering the size. I'm not a pro photographer or videographer so not too fussed about the resolution. Quality is decent for social media and YouTube use. But it has definitely made me itch, will definitely upgrade to the upcoming Mavic Pro 2 next. Oh one more thing, please get the Flymore Combo. A world of a difference when you fly it with the remote. I feel the gesture controls are a bit gimmicky, will hardly use them. And controlling with your phone loses a lot of range and you can't have a precise control over the aircraft. For some reason, the WiFi connection between the controller and your mobile device is really unreliable. Before you even take your Spark out for the first flight, please buy some OTG cables and a short (25cm) charging cable for your device. First test flight today. Flight time about 12 minutes with 14percent battery life left.find it very hard to control with the phone and the apps itself crashed 2 times during the flight.and then keep getting lost signal...my god...i think need to buy controller liao...any place to suggest? Wana get the combo with propeller guard,battery and the hub as well.

just took mine out for its first spin. Manage to get around 15~20min flight time with multiple takeoff/landing.
100% sure that additional battery is needed. And the GPS seems to be unstable even in an open area. P.S : That moment when you hit the Return to Home first time, and the drone shoots straight up |

I following China DJI forum closely before I bought, and actually there is alot of them having similar issue, drone suddenly drop out from sky or sudden lost of GPS but the other english forum, there is much lesser complain on the issue so I guess it might related to China being the first batch of having the Spark and there might be some fix on later batch. As long as your log able to show that it's not your fault but its hardware/software issue, DJI will change a new drone for you. But there is also alot case that user unable provide log, either controlling spark without RC/phone or log gone missing halfway, if that's the case DJI at most give you like 20-30% discount but wont replace you a new drone. |

Hi guys, got my spark few weeks back and been playing around with it, loves it so much.
However, I seem to have a problem with the return to home function. Each time it took off, it mentioned that it has recorded the RTH position. But when I hit the RTH function, it will not go back to the position it recorded (take off place). But it just land at where it is now. Anyone experience such issue with your spark ? |

Anyone notice that the Micro USB Port underneath the controller wasn't in the shape of common Micro USB? Its a rectangle shape.
Last night when i tried to plug the cable in my first attempt failed to plug it, i thought something wrong with the port. Found this when tried to search for solution. That's scary also....next time when fly need to get a tall friend accompany errr.. that time first time attempt hence kind of panic cause can't reach. it was hovering at certain height where i'm unable to reach including my friends too . hovering there non moving until battery depleted and indicated low battery. so i was scare it will drop or etc.. so i try to use phone to go make it down but then suddenly the spark gone haywire and drift loh. |

when indoor, shut off fans, and door, scare of drone fly away or wind push. and always wear propeller guard
when outdoor, im panic while drone set RTHome with 3min battery left. why? coz the drone will goes 50m (max set) and the drone taking leisure time to go back.. using phone and download available video cache, the file was not smooth. it jag, pixel and some jump over few sec. |

When overseas the price gap is too little which I understand why people are saying Spark isn't that good a purchase.
In Malaysia the scene is different, Spark is RM 2k range minimum while Mavic Pro alone starts at around RM 4.5k so that's A WHOLE LOT of money. |

Want to share my horror experience from my last weekend noob flight.
1) Always check your surrounding first (Telecommunication tower, lamp post, water tower) 3) Avoid take off at lower terrain and surrounded by higher terrain. 4) When it ask you to RTH, you better do. 5) Find My Drone location not 100% correct. 6) Always flight with someone who can keep and eye on your drone whereabout. 7) Always check Wifi signal strength + all sensors strength and level of interference. Incident summary: Take off at lower terrain, beside got one humongous water tower, and right beside the water tower there's a humongous telecommunication tower (which i was so noob i never check the surrounding, or maybe the camouflage of the telcom tower really good). Flight took of nicely till max altitude 500m, at that point battery show 38% (which i though still sufficient to bring it back down) and the RTH warning kick in. I thought min 30% sufficient for RTH so i take my sweet time up there 500m. Until 30% battery left i activated the RTH and it descending straight down. while descending my RC start to lost signal and the video transmission gone haywire. At altitude 38m RC totally no control no video stream and i was sooooooo freak out and battery left 17%. It lost in the wood somewhere 150m from me with my RC keep beeping RTH and my heart was like at the bottom of the sea. Find My Drone last location shown the drone last stop is at where i'm standing. This seem like a major firmware update

am planning to get a DJI spark fly more combo from Changi airport (SGD980)
i understand that DJI has no "international" warranty... u bring back the unit to ur seller to claim warranty. i just wan to know if Malaysian resellers is willing to make repairs if we pay them? |

hi sparky, would like to clarify one important thing here, as i am looking at the best deal for the spark, i came across this news about banning any drone flying in malaysia, i downloaded the uav forecast and it shown whole malaysia is a no fly zone. will require to get a permit upon flying the drone.
here i see everyone still flying as usual and of coz with adhere to the laws that is set by department of civil aviation. can anyone here clarify this pls ? your help is very much appreciated as i am about to get a spark if still can fly.  Drones are now illegal to fly in Malaysia skies No-fly for drones without permits Drone regulations in Malaysia |
