hey bro

my planted tank setup

18" x 8' x 8" = rm14
sand (i think is holland sand) = rm2 per kg = 4kgs x rm2 = rm 8
filter ( i bought internal filter) = rm 15
13w clipped on light = rm 32
small driftwood = rm 3.5
DIY CO2 = rm6 (for initial setup)
CO2 diffuser = rm13
thermometer = rm1.5

total rm93 bucks

plants and fishes = i think rm20....depends one wat plants u going to buy

so from my estimation..u can have such planted tank within rm100 as u ganti my aquarium cost (rm14) to buy sand (7kgs)

filter u do need to buy HOB type where i've asked...around rm25 to rm30

mine is low tech tank but hey, my plants grow as well!!

smile.gifsmile.gif

hope my cost setup can help u estimate ur budget biggrin.gif

editted: i'm thinking of selling my 18" x 8" x 8" tank plus the internal filter rm20, any takers??

thinking of upgrade to bigger tank..i'll give my red zebra fish for free..biggrin.gif

i myself is a newbie...started around mid of january.....

i didn know bout the difficulty of nanotank...i didn know about soil and stuffs...

i went and bought an 18" x 8" x 8" tank because of easy and small

i went and ask the LFS say i wan planted tank sand..they show me holland sand

i went and bought internal filter

i went and buy light without reading how important light to planted tank

i bought everything only i started to read this thread

i learn and try and error myself...

so basic thing to start...hmm....see how u wan to start it..u wan to start it expensively or cheaply....

mine tank setup:-

-holland sand and put fert ball inside (thanks tenchi of telling me where to buy)
-DIY CO2
-13W light
-HOB filter
-thermometer

voila..u can start ur planted tank!! heheeh...u see la ur setup is able to plant wat kind of plants....

i can see my plants got growth..i dem happy d....of course my tank is not as cun as those forumer here...but start small small, learn bout the basic then only start big rite??

BUT BUT..THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IS READ ALL THE POST IN THIS THREAD.......very informative leh smile.gif

and at the beginning.....i went to LFS almost everyday....hahahahaha

paiseh for the long post...i might sound boasting but i'm just happy tat my tank is making progress....ahahah...i'm satisfied..

ahh....trying something tat actually works....it gives u the satisfaction...be it simple or complicated. biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

hey guys...got a question...

see the attached picture....the maroon color is my filter and tat is my current filter position..i notice tat only half of the tank's water can circulate....while another half water is still...so which position is best to put my HOB filter??

it's a 400L/H filter on 18" x 8" x 8"...i'm thinking of shifting to middle of the tank...

and if the plants planted infront of the filter..will the plant grow??

i'm always wondering....when u buy plants from LFS..the roots of the plants are cover by sponge and metal.,,can we just plant the whole thing inside or need to take out and plant slowly into the soil?

for now i'm taking out the sponge and metal before planting into the soil tho....but i guess if plant together with metal and sponge..it will be lot more easier...lol
