Why not we start it here..... I'm waiting for my developer to clear up my defective list, before i start renovations and moving in.. btw, some good reference is www.cavenzi.com (i found it reasonable if u r in tight budget like me), www.panasonic.com.my (they provide the retail price, usually u can get cheaper or free gift outside, where u can budget your expenses..)

Thanks bro, seems like you really prepare your shopping list well. maybe I should have start compile a similar list later smile.gif

BTW, I also love to do the same practice, i.e. shopping at those Harvey Norman, HSL, Best to get the normal market price, then only goto those electrical shop to nego lower prices. So far I found that most of the Puchong electrical shops (along the Tesco main road) can offer very good price.

I think unless someone is in the furniture business most wont know about laminates or where to buy it...

I've asked the gents where I bought my furniture from and they advised laminates comes in several form one being the paper laminate (cheap stuff), wood laminate and those plastic laminates.

They also said outside of furniture factories and contractors the stuff is hard to come by for consumers coz its usually sold in bulk to industries.

It's also possible you can try to contact rezzz see my siggy basically he was selling those carbon fiber stickers that you could use as a laminate maybe he can source for the wood grain design you're looking for. Or you could go modern and carbon fiber everything brows.gif

Well since this thread is about furniture and appliance reviews I would like to write a short review on a furniture shop I had the pleasure of patronizing recently its called Grand Teak S/B it's located in a row of shop lots behind Tesco Puchong next to Angel Veterinary.

http://www.grandteak.com/images/product_mis_2_07.gif

The furniture they typically feature is made of hard woods like Mahogany and Teak. In addition to hardwood furniture they also have seagrass furniture and various knick knacks like table lamp shades, wood statues and other misc. ornamental decorations.

I stumbled on them by accident whilst I was surveying the furniture shops along the Puchong stretch of the LDP highway. They are located somewhat far from the main road and tucked away in a bunch of nondescript shops.

I was greeted by their staff Munif who is very attentive and gone to lengths to explain and promote their products. Its great coz you also get to chat and at the same time haggle for price reductions alto several items are already too low for discounts and I agree whistling.gif

I've purchased several pieces furniture from them including this lovely wub.gif Teak 4 Poster King size bed

user posted image

A 6'ft Mahogany TV Cabinet with 6 Drawers and huge cast iron handles.

user posted image

2 Feng Shui Mirrors

user posted image

The mirrors are a bargain I got them at RM88 a piece and its only RM68 for smaller 60'x70' mirrors.

Visit their website http://www.grandteak.com for pictures of their products.

I recommend you visit their shop coz the pictures don't do justice to the products in real life, their shop also has some one-off pieces not shown online.

BTW they're having a clearance sale till end of this month (March) so if you love rustic wooden furniture or just can't stand the crap furniture from Ikea pay Grand Teak S/B a visit.

PS: jootat try this attachment...

They are called veneers. Cheap version call paper laminates also got. Try kedai jual plywood; but most of them do wholesale only..have to find one that sells retail.

Thanks... I've found a shop near to my home now.. It's not-so-great wooden door, but at least it's not ply-wood (and empty-inside) provided by the developer.

It costs RM360 including door-noob, celic (dunno how to spell) and installation.
It's the second-lowest end door.

ya better get someone to install it sekali, unless you know carpentry work!

BTW, if the door is your entrance, pastikan itu fire-rated door..At RM360, I doubt it is. Anyway, if developer provided plywood flush door, unlikely it's the entrance door lah.

P/s the varnish they use on the door is known as shellac...just in case you want to buy it next time! smile.gif

Shellac got different colour. Also got clear varnish..ie no colour in itself. so, maintain the ori colour of the door.

Actually, what don't you like about the door? If you just want to make the door look a bit decorative, maybe try using beading ( strips of wood) that you can use on the ori door..make it look like those decorative door from mgf like MaicaDoor.

The wooden door that i want to buy has no paint on it, just piece of wood, with some simple design lar (few usual rectangle shape).

The seller will charge another RM190 for installation + shellec and door knob.

That's y i tot of engaging the seller for installation only. I'll paint it myself with the colour i want..

Like that arrrh...better you tell the boss what colour you want and get them to paint for you. Itu shellac kalau takda skill(I not suggesting you don't have the skill...am assuming the carpenter should have more experience in doing a good job) paint nanti jadi tak smooth, then jialat liao. Kadang, they use some kind of gadget to spray the shellac, then the finish very nice.

Just wonder hows the quality? Can last long or not? Thanks.

i went there as well. the quality seems to be okie to me. the wardrobe that they show me can prevent from fire. The salesman actually use the lighter to burn it infront of me ... hahaha ... so scary ... but in fact it don give any burning stain at all.

The sofa is quite cheap and the quality i can say not that bad as well. I even try to sleep on their queen size bed. Very good as well.

And yea, the price is cheap. Probably they are taking goods from China, that's why so cheap?

The samples there are less but i will rate the designs and the price is reasonable. Anyway, at least it suitable for my budget lar .... I m not rich, so definitely i won't go to Rozel or other branded shop lar ... flex.gif

I'm back.. I've fixed the entrance door to my apartment, RM170 including installation but without painting. So i bought 2 pieces of sand paper and one liter of paint, I've done it in less than RM200.

About cavenzi, hmm.. in my opinion, it's not that good.. i've been to few cavenzi including the one in balakong (main branch), but i couldn't get what i want, their range is too big, u can choose either very cheap or expensive. But those cheap 1, it's rather small and quality not good, but those with quality, it's expensive.. at least to me...

Mind to snap some photo of ur door after painting? hehe ... Just sharing ...
And i just went to Cavenzi in Bukit OUG, inside the Central Market .... hmm ... that branch really teruk ... a bit messy and the stock is a bit old. I will recommend anyone who interested to drop by Wangsa Maju Branch, they just open there if not mistaken, and the stock that they have there is quite limited, but to me i feel the designs look a bit new compare to the one in Bukit OUG ... smile.gif

Just own point of view ...

I have to agree with stormchaser. Either its too cheap or too expensive. I end up buying a bedroom set cost around 2k. Though it wasnt my plan to get the expensive ones, but my pick is really worth it. I really like the design. I went to the Puchong branch btw. And yeah, its kinda messy too.

Yalor 2K is quite cheap but then he din say what's included... or the materials used!

It's a good idea to measure your rooms first before going out to buy big pieces like wardrobe, bed and dinner tables.

Take your time to learn subtle points of selecting good furniture and how each piece will fit into the room or if it's too big icon_idea.gif

The materials used also determine the quality and price of a particular piece.

There is a big price difference between high density fibre board, ply wood, rubber wood, nyatoh, mahogany, metal etc.

Also there are so many different kinds or fabric, leather, synthetics, and there are also regular glass and tempered glass.

My recent tip is there is 2 different types of marble used to make dinner tables. Treated marble and natural marble... treated being cheaper (depends) and looks very attractive and natural depends on each piece no two are the same.

But if you chip away the surface of treated marble the colour is different. I've seen a very reddish marble table but chip the surface underneath its actually white and natural marble if chipped the colour is consistent underneath you can polish natural marble and its good as new! thumbup.gif

But if you chip away the surface of treated marble the colour is different. I've seen a very reddish marble table but chip the surface underneath its actually white and natural marble if chipped the colour is consistent underneath you can polish natural marble and its good as new! thumbup.gif

what do u mean by tempered glass yea? Table made by glass is very attractive to me ... just wanna know more

Tempered is heat treated glasses, basically they heat the glass under high temperature to strengthen it so it's not fragile and easily breakable! Your car windshield is made of similar stuff!

Its also safer coz when it breaks the pieces is small and not as sharp or likely to cut as regular non-tempered glass!

Taken from wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toughened_glass

Toughened glass or tempered glass is a type of glass that has increased strength and will usually shatter into small fragments when broken.

Toughened glass is used when strength, thermal resistance and safety are important considerations, such as in microwavable see-through cookware. Other forms of tempered glass are Borosilicate glass for baking by Pyrex and Arcuisine, ceramic-glass dinnerware by Corelle and Arcopal and bakeware and stovetop pots by Arcoflam. Within the home, tempered glass can be found in display case windows, shower doors, glass patio doors, glass dinnerware and drinking glasses. In commercial structures, tempered glass is used for unframed assemblies such as frameless doors, structurally loaded applications and any that would be dangerous in the case of a human impact.

Surely its not expensive for u guys... but for me, it wasnt in my budget plan. I went there to get the RM699 or RM999 sets... but end up frustrating myself. The quality is not that I expected. Will snap a picture once I get it... I just booked it that day. Few weeks to go once I sign my S&P. Then, the renovation jobs. Not sure how long...

Are they the shop on the same row as Standard Chartered bank...

For me I purchased several of my electrical stuff from HomeNet they're on the same row as Citibank... purchased my water heater and ceiling fans from there but be prepared to bargain.

edit: Scratch that I don't think I would recommend Homenet either... sweat.gif one reason was I earlier got an agreement to purchase my appliances they aren't going to charge me the 3% credit card fee.

Later when it comes time to pay the taukeh change him mind... luckily after raising a protest he change back :bleh:

Yup I know that shop... and the advert you're referring to. Honestly I didn't like going there...

What they advertise is not what you're getting... for example they advertised Zanussi Oven/Hob for RM900 (can't remember exact sum) when we showed up to inquire they told us it's only for 1 unit, the display set...

It's the same with the Aircon's as well all also display set... their advert doesn't mention their sale items is mostly display sets. Go there but be prepared for some disappointment.

I didn't buy anything because I felt they were dishonest shakehead.gif

Cavenzi's design are ugly la
some are blatant rip off of ikea and others are just plainly built
and ikea are so common nowadays

i recommend macy at ikano or serdang, u can get cheaper price when they're having sale

Well I couldn't be bothered with Cavenzi or Ikea, most furniture nowadays are crap... so easy to damage even sofas that cost RM2k within a week can tear...

I tore my best friend's leather sofa within the first week coz the stitching was badly done if anyone sat on the sofa it would strain the leather. In the end the whole thing tore open. shakehead.gif the look on my friends face icon_question.gif

It's the same with Ikea Grom storage shelves. The joints are easy to snap, I store a box (half empty on purpose) and it breaks.

I can't seem to find any proper forum on user experience or review of electrical appliances in Malaysia...

Coz I was planning on getting a new washing machine and I wanted to know if those really expensive Bosch or Maytag washing machines does the job better than a sub RM1k machine from Panasonic or Samsung?

Anyone care to share their laundry experience, desperately need a washing machine coz my weekly laundry bill cost RM25+ a week excluding family members.

PS: If anyone is interested I've shopped around and asked the price for this model Samsung WA98UA 7.8kg

RRP is RM999
Best Denki RM950
Harvey Norman RM979
HSL RM985 - So stingy RM4 discount onli

I agreed on Ikea & Cavenzi item is substandard quality wise. I myself got from Cavenzi, cos other place more expensive so no choice. sad.gif
I try not to used any furniture from Ikea as advised by my former lecturer. But I need to buy those small kitchen wall wardrobe which cos about RM150 each. So will the bracket suddenly snap & fall down? Cos I will put in plates inside.
On the washing machine, the only thing I know is try not to buy those metal body as it will rust in a couple of yrs. You can wipe it off but those small joint where cannot be wiped will still rust.
Anyway the staff of a small electric shop told me to get fiber body instead as it will not rust.
BTW I think you can get better price in those electrical shophouses.

Hmmm let me think there is Cash Converters... cant think of any others.

Personally I'm not too keen on second hand appliance, I'm OK with furniture but appliance can be troublesome esp when they breakdown shortly after purchase.

Bits like motor, drum etc could be end of life or difficult to replace IMHO.

Thanks for replying I appreciate it. Already purchased a samsung but a much cheaper model...for 7kg its OK no problems so far...

I choose a model without the Nano Silver because I felt it was just marketing or gimmick tongue.gif

The knocking sound check if the machine is level... because the drum when spinning could be hitting the inside of the machine... if its level and there is still sound better get it checked out...

looking for economic + efficient aircon for my living room. I need 2HP for that. So, choices are either ceiling type or wall type within the price range. Reference to Pana brand, ceiling type seems to be more powerful but less feature. Anybody installed a ceiling type aircon and how isst? Maintenance & bill in long run, wats the experience like?

Besides brands there are the different types of hobs...

Electric or Gas.
- Depends on your preference... my friend cooks with gas but has an electric stove for backup.
- Gas is cheaper to run I'm told (but I don't have the numbers to prove it)

The number of burners you need (2, 3 or maybe 6)

The cooking stand is important flat for pots and pans or slightly raised for asian woks.
- Check that your pans are stable.

Types of hobs
- Stand alone (cheap)
- built-in (expensive or cheap depending on brand)
- or those that come with ovens.

For built in hobs you must check what materials are used to construct its top:-
- stainless steel
user posted image

- tempered glass
user posted image

- or those plastic covered aluminium types hmm.gif dunno what to call it...

No pics sorry... tongue.gif

Now that is a lot of brass air fittings there is just about every type
of air fitting that you could want. Wholesale prices too. I guess these could be used as small water pipe fitting also. I
used some of the parts to make my babington wvo buraue

I was like ****..Luckily there's no one there and the glass was leaning at the chairs..i called up cavenzi they said wanna charge RM80 just to glued back..Never buy those cheap things from Cavenzi..u might get urself hurt..Is there anyway my case to filed against them with the consumer affair?

Luckily the auto gate waranty does covers thunder damage. But the TV is gone.
But Belkin is only suitable for home appliances, what about auto gate or those which connects directly to the main power supply?

You mean the magnetic switch with one green & one red button?

But nowadays even air-con doesn't use those anymore.... it has built-in surge protector like Daikin if not mistaken.

Anyway the thunder shock came from the TV antenna, does Belkin has the TV antenna in-out connector? Like the phone line in-out connector...

No. That one is not a surge protector. It is a magnetic contactor switch that protect the compressor from overload. The surge proctector is a small black block with 3 wire.

Yes. Belkin have antenna line and phone line protect model. Antenna line model is more expensive and limited claim RM15000. But remember you will only get new set if it cannot be repair. Not straight you can claim new set. Belkin will choose the lower cost to honour your claim.

My furniture delivered on Aug2009. then there is a defect on my sofa. I had made complaint on 20 Dec 2009, but until now(JUNE2010), there is no ACTION had been taken.
I had call the sale person, they only reply NOTED, action will be taken. I keep on wait, and call, wait and call. Still the SAME. So, when they want you to buy, they can provide very good service to you, but after that, they never followup the case that you had complaint. So, BE AWARE of LAVINO style !!!

Hi guys,

I was wondering; what is LDP and where exactly can I find it. Is it perhaps related to all the Puchong references? Is this the place to be to buy furniture; as I need a bedframe, mattress, sofa and such. Is there an area within Puchong where I should head out to? Sorry, I'm not from around and only living in KL for a year now smile.gif

Besides; do anyone of you guys/gals know if it's possible to buy a 200cm mattress instead of 190cm? Are there also bedframes for sale somewhere in Malaysia where I can fit a 200cm (lenght) mattress in?

We found a nice looking sofa at Houz Depot. How would you all rate the quality of this store? Is it low quality, or perhaps between low and medium? Or is it of higher quality? I found the sofa to be quite ok (the one that we fancy) but others didn't look that great (and that is when it's brand new in the store still).

Thanks for the input!

i went to MIVA yesterday, they got promotion for year end sale and they give halfprice for their furniture.

furniture is up to date... what best is can customize to your budget.

i just bought L-shape fabric sofas using Acasia fabric cost me below rm4k, 12.5 feet sofas.

i think anyone who search for sofa can try MIVA.

I'm in the market for two Softside Waterbeds for my two children. After looking for months, there is very little avail here in city for double size beds. Many stores have suggested I look at queen sized beds but I don't have the room for that. I looked online and saw online bed stores that will ship to UK. With all the fees and taxes, the prices are really good plus I have a lot of styles to choose from. http://www.bed-adjustable.co.uk/waterbeds/

Has anyone ordered from an online store in the Asia, particularly the ones mentioned?

Thank you for any feedback.

Hi kw,
I love arranging things.. that is one of my hobbies...
I suggest you finish first with setting up your home...
and when it's nearly done...you can now look or purchase for
your furniture.. just to make sure that the sizes of
the furniture would fit with the arrangement or interior of
your house. You can also ask for some experts. Also,
make sure you get professionals for your furniture. Hope this would
help.

Many furniture shop has it. Maybe the difference in terms of thickness/material of glass and the stand.
If it is just table with glass top, it looks like dining table.

Hi it's very true that black and white is really amazing decoration for all country and all times. I highly appreciate black and white or black and blue decoration at home. I tried to have some idea at dooleysfurniture earlier. white furniture goes well with all other color. If you want to decorate your daughter's room you may use white and pink color which makes really amazing beauty. In this fast paced world we want a freshness at our bedroom, which is possible from white decoration!

just bought my kitchen hob and hood from 18 Electrical Shop in pj two weeks ago. they charged me rm3140 after much negotiation (and had to pay cash) . next day i went to another shop just to ask for price and they gave me rm2700! the same model! without negotiating!! i was pissed so i went back to 18 Electrical shop and asked them nicely why is theirs so expensive so the fella who sold it to me (alvin) said that if im able to produce a receipt at rm2700, they will refund me the difference -.- so i said ok fine i asked my sister (who is moving house also) to buy the exact same model. took her receipt and gave it to alvin, and he said he will ask his superior first (Pls note that he already agreed to refund me the difference initially when i questioned him).

then i got a call from him supposed superior, shouting at me and scolding me saying that if i buy sth expensive from pasar malam will i be able to get a refund???and didnt give me a chance to speak at all!!! omg i was shocked!! how can anyone be so rude wtf

even though i do not believe that this 'superior' is indeed alvin's superior, i think this shop is a total hoax!! never going to buy from this shop already.

GONNA BAN TOTALLY 18 ELECTRICAL SHOP. NOT ONLY FOR ITS PRICE, BUT THE RUDE AND ROWDY SALESPEOPLE THERE. WITH SUCH MANNERS, DO NOT EXPECT AFTER-SALES SERVICE FROM THEM!
*
Sorry to hear that, before the purchase did you do some survey around ?

ya i did ;( but i didnt look at Rubine before this coz previous shops didnt carry this brand. Just my luck to walk into this shop! was appalled by the lack of manners from the salesperson Alvin. and when i asked to speak to his boss, he wouldnt let me.

higher price is one issue. rude and arrogant salespeople is another.
*
No choice since their after sales is as bad as it is. If they cant discount the same price and least sit down and work it out with you and see how it goes. Have to take this bad experience as a precaution, next time price survey the exact model everywhere before deciding. Them sales person will always trying to boast that thats the last unit, tomorrow you come no more stock and etc. Just ignore their bull and keep your cool, go finish the price survey round only decide.

i will give you our experience dealing with some of the manufacturers

L-shaped fabric sofa - Innovel - not bad, we will rate 7/10
Divan Bed frame - Solano - do not really recommend, majority of their sofa/bed using lousy quality plywood, we only rate them 2/10. Try M&N or ELK divan if possible
Garden table and chairs - M&N - various design, but you may get cheaper price for same design from other manufacturer. we will rate them 8/10
Dresser - BAT - fair enough, you pay what you get smile.gif, we rate them 7/10

hope our experience helps u make your choice more wisely smile.gif

People out there, just to share my painful experience with you! ROZEL is a super big NO NO !!

DO NOT BUY from ROZEL! The quality and after sales service are very very poor! We have bought a full leather sofa (3 +2 seaters) frm ROZEL which cost about RM10k. Two long springs popped out from beneath the sofa and the sofa sink in after we use it for only 6 mths. At home only myself and my mum (both body weigh < 55 kg) who used it (no kids) and we use it very carefully (we even not to wear any hard jeans or pants which could possibly scratch the leather surface).

So, we contacted the customer service. The staff who attends to our complaint is very rude. We told the staff the quality of their sofa is not good, apology instead the staff reply with his rude accent:" Our quality is good! The sofa is at your home so is because of the user la!! ” Then, I ask for his supervisor he told me rudely that he is the person in charged. Fuaahh!! Then, they told us to pay RM160 for them to collect the sofa back to the factory to repair (excluding material cost for repairing)!!! The best part is... the WARRANTY CARD only sent to us UPON DELIVERY (upon delivery we already made full payment, hence nothing you can do about the warranty or return the sofa) stated that leather, transportation fees, material cost, cost of labour etc where needed must be paid by the purchaser. So, in short the warranty covers nothing, there is actually NO WARRANTY. They are using the 5 years warranty wording to CON CUSTOMER. Now, I am so worried that we might need to keep sending back our sofa to Rozel factory for the next FIVE SO-CALLED WARRANTY YRS since the quality is so bad (while keep paying them RM160 + RMxx each time).

So, instead of taking up the responsibility to give warranty to cover their defects in quality to the customer, now the customer actually forced to pay for ROZEL’s fault. And if they continue to do this, they can actually earn $$ each time the customers call for repair.

Before Rozel, we bought a full leather sofa (3+2 seaters) which cost us about RM4k. We used it for 5 yrs without any complaint at all. The brand does not looks as cozy (but now I think outside look cozy but internal using cheap materials) as Rozel but the level of comfortable and the quality is way too much better compared to ROZEL. Again, ROZEL is a big NO NO !!

If you are a creative person and already know how you want to do up your house, no need for an ID. Just get a contractor. Tell him exactly what you want. Don't expect too many fanciful ideas from a contractor. They are not designers.
An ID would be useful if you have no idea what you want. The ID will then give you suggestions and ideas. ID is also like a one stop shop i.e. he will settle everything for you.
Different IDs work different. When my parents moved their housing agent (a friend) recommended an ID who she herself has used before. He was quite ok so when I moved, I also used him.
This ID has his own electrician, plumber and carpentry workshop. So not only did he give suggestions and modify them according to my feedback, he was also involved in execution. As he has many projects of course he could not be every where at once so he has several project managers. The project manager would ensure everything was ok.
The safest is word of mouth. I don't really trust forums because you never know if the person giving the review is the contractor/ID himself or a friend. Ask your friends, relatives, colleagues if they have any recommendations.

Just to avoid opening a new thread, may I ask something regarding the Muji furniture.

Do the Muji Malaysia carry any furniture at current time? Tried to message them through Facebook, but yet to get an answer back from them for quite sometimes. Read through their FAQ,
6. Can we place a special order with MUJI Japan
Yes, however the lead time will be 6 to 8 weeks upon confirmation of stock availability in Japan and applicable only to items that meet Malaysia import regulation.

Seem like they don't have a good sales service team at Malaysia for the time being. Hope you guy can provide some feedback or purchased made with Muji in Malaysia for their furniture.

Thanks, notworthy.gif

STAR living @ Quill City Mall offers a good variety of furniture at a good quality too.. My uncle bought some furniture (marble dining table, leather sofa, etc.. ) from this company on last year & it's still looks new till now (because of its GOOD quality). They are offering different range of furniture, models & colours for you to choose from plus most importantly ON-TIME delivery! My mum & I went there on last week & we decided to buy some furniture by next week~

I have checked their website from online & found that this 34 years established company indeed have a good reputation because of their quality assurance~ rclxms.gif smile.gif

SAME case with Vonza, Deep Living... Their leather sofa peeled off after a few months only & worst still their delivery of furniture is delayed for several times, according to my friend.. mad.gif

Hey guys, recently found out Courts memang senang promo.
The discount rates really got me attracted. Do you guys think it's safe to go with Courts right now? Paying by installment seems good to me, at least I can save up some for backup. Also, I'm rushing to get a fridge...

Yes, understand that.
So I decided to take the shortest installment.
Hope can lesser some interest.
No choice, I'm in a hurry and cannot afford to pay it once.
Unless you have any better recommendation?
Thanks in advance.

If not mistaken, that one is courts online shop. It's not recommended to buy expensive stuff through online.
You can't view the actual product~~ later received a broke one

Yes, I aware that.
But they guarantee that free 30 days exchange and refund.
So just have to make sure that there is nothing wrong with the product for the first day you receive the product.
If really a broken unit then have to report fast, for the free exchange or refund.

SP furniture very bad after sales service.

I had problem with the furniture supplied, and they try to ignore my complaint and until a few months already, the problem still haven solved.

The workmanship was very bad as well. Extremely disappointing with the quality and the service they provided.
