enjoy baroque as well...actually i find it a wonder...how can ppl at tat time make such strong melodical fundamentals tat are still used till today...

i hate moonlight sanota tho...personally find it boring cant seem to get the meaning of the song till today

PS: 1 thing about classical music....its concerntrate alot on fingering and sound amplification technique....even alot of teachers cannnot maintain it

I found classical guitar pretty fun, especially Spanish/Flamenco style playing. The skills I learned really helped my transition to electric.

I've been wondering...how many electric guitar players start out on a classical?

Tommy Emmanuel is fairly complex and he has mastered the Finger picking technic, i dare say that he is the leetest leet finger picker. I dont think Tommy emmanuel plays a specific genre as he is very versatile

i dotn have a classical guitar to play classical pieces sad.gif

have to use my ovation acoustic guitar which sounds too sharp/pitchy lol, its a rhythm guitar anyways biggrin.gif

Sorry for being ignorant ..

Would like to know those normal guitars out there, how many different types are there? Classical, Acoustic .. what else? I'm looking forward to get one next week (budget RM100 max or below). Do they come with free bag?

I have no guitar basic, so I'm a pure beginner. Which type guitar do you recommend? rolleyes.gif

Thanks.

I don't think you can get a decent guitar for below 100 bucks.... (unless you get a Kapok.... which is totally crap and not even WORTH the 100 bucks).

To get a decent acoustic/classical guitar... you would have to spend AT LEAST 700 bucks. Yes.... even for beginners. In fact, it's even more important to get a decent guitar if you're a beginner.

There are a few different type of Classical/Acoustic variations (Semi electric, double necks, baritones), but they are just variations on the Classical/Acoustic guitars.

A Classic guitar has a wider fretboard (ie: the Looooooong part of the guitar) and is best used with Nylon strings (although alot of people have different opionions on this). Usually students will start with this and also people who play classical pieces.... like Bach or Beethoven.

An Acoustic guitar has a smaller fret, but with a much "richer" tone. This is what player usually play when they want to play regular guitar songs. They use metal strings ONLY though so be warned.

Nylon strings are supposedly "easier" on the fingers, but doesn't give fantastic tonal value, wherelse on the flip side... metal strings give that "ring" to the sound.

Anymore questions, don't be afraid.... that's why we're here for man!

No offense taken (PS.... please keep it in one post....Edit your reply if needed).

I'm actually going to take up classical guitar playing next year..... sitting for the exams and all that..... Maybe Yamaha.... dunno.... have to scout around.

And like I said.... Different People have different opinions on classical/acoustic guitars. But to me, I feel you can really rip and shred on a classical easier then an acoustic... but then that depends on the guitar itself.

And if you think I'm only refering to the expensive ones..... check this out....
Zakk Wylde uses a Yamaha Student Model Classical guitar ALOT.... He claims that the guitar feels like a Les Paul and does his fast runs on that.

I've been playing the classical guitar for almost five years, and I've taken the ABRSM Grade 5 Practical also.

I've stopped going to the classes when I reached Grade 7, cause the fees are extremely expensive. I go and learn by myself after that.

Yes - I have an Alhambra 1-PMATE bought back in late '01. I want to get a Yamaha SLG100N, but I haven't tried or seen yet. Anyone tried this Yamaha Silent Nylon guitar before? biggrin.gif

And I've tried lotsa pieces by these composers already - Bach, Vivaldi, Fernando Sor, Carulli, and stuff like that.

I love Renaissance music but I have only a few ones in my hand. And also the Baroque music, especially Bach - his Lute Suites are very interesting masterpieces composed for the lute. Fernando's music is mostly about exercise and lessons, but frequently playing his pieces will improve your playing technique. And Romantic music - sorry - I'm not really good at it - I must need more practise, since I have a habit of playing Renaissance and Baroque and Classical pieces.

The best book for learners of the Classical guitar - try checking Frederick Noad's 100 Graded Classical Studies and his anthologies of Guitar series. Also, if you can, try getting the Fernando Sor's complete exercise book. Or try Christopher Parkening's guidebooks (I haven't tried ANY Parkening's book - but they are nice to read.) biggrin.gif

And modern music - Mason Williams' Classical gas is also an interesting piece. Give it a try. biggrin.gif thumbup.gif

Waa...I tot i was the only one who heard abt Tommy, tongue.gif
I manganed to play a few of his songs...it really is hard sweat.gif

Anyone got da tabs on classical peices like Fur Elise and the likes? I only know Romance' De' Amour laugh.gif laugh.gif

Had a whole book on it last time..but dunno where did it go..

Personally, BOth Guitars have thier own good sound. Classical is only for classical songs and acoustic is only for acoustic songs..cant play vice versa..thats what i feel biggrin.gif

And also, Classical Doesn't have so much Fret as an acoustic...i think a max of 18-20? So artificial harmonics on the 21st fret is not possible wit a classical sad.gif
