Am thinking of opening a Rakuten trade cash upfront account but have some queries. Appreciate help.

1) Do one immediately have to transfer a certain sum of $ upon opening the account or only need to transfer the $ when one wants to trade?

2) As most probably I will not be trading (or very minimal trade) for the 1st few months, will I be urged/harassed to do so?

1) minimal rm 10 in cash account to keep it active (Min rm 10 - to keep it active). I have managed to get it below 4, lol
Initial account opening under contra 2.0 promo period is rm20, you get back rm10. Then with those balance cash, you can buy odd lot unit of some penny stock, without topping up any cash, if you dont want to (but remember rm 7 trading fees, clearing, sst, etc).

2) no harm, do it when needed only. I think you need to to trade once in 3 months possibly, cant remember (not mentioned anywhere also). Bursa CDS will be inactive if no trade in 36 months (3 years).

Extra note, cash kept in cash or contra account gain interest 2.5% pa, calculated based on daily rest - credited monthly. This is more than m2u savers account. Not guaranteed by PIDM - usual stuff.

what do you mean by short? you want to do Intraday Short Sell? If that's the case. You can't as Rakuten does not participate in IDSS.
if you are asking to buy and then sell same counter within the same day, they have rebate for broker fee. Instead of RM7 x 2, you will be charge RM7 only for the broker fee.
*
mr_hustla Is it automatically they charge you $7 or you have to request for it

Was looking at my cash upfront account (in my handphone) which have 3 big rows ie cash, shares and trading limit.

Under the cash row:
--have 2 smaller rows. Don't understand what is the 1st smaller row.
The 2nd smaller row is the cash available to trade .

Can anyone tell me what is the 1st smaller row?

1. Value
2. Withdrawal Availability

foxxy 1) What is this value?

Yesterday in my cash upfront account:
My cash + current market potfolio price is at least $1k more than the value shown
My cash + cost of my portfolio (ie purchase price + fees) is at least $1k more than the value shown

That's why I don't understand what this value is. Doesn't seem to tally to anything

Today is even funnier. (did not place any trade today)
In my cash upfront account, now the 1st row value is showing the same $ amount as total cash that I have (ie trading limit).

2a) Also, does Rakuten bank in the dividend into our bank account?

2b) Today is the ex-dividend date for 1 of my shares. Wonder, when will we get the dividend from Rakuten

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

How do we check whether the dividend has been banked into our Rakuten cash account?

This probably similt with kentrade, check
My account > Transaction History > Dividend
Payment depends on payment date + Transaction days X
Nominees may take longer.

Thanks. Can only see the dividend from the website. Was trying to see it in the apps, but there was no such function.

Yes. When placing order, in 'lot type', just change from 'board' to 'odd'

I’ve been using Rakuten Trade since the end of 2017 and I just realized today that it’s not under Bursa’s list of registered brokers (trading participants) here: https://www.bursamalaysia.com/trade/trading...ng_participants

It is said that to be 100% risk-free it’s best that your trading platform is included on the above list. In the case of an unlikely event, such as the bankruptcy of your brokerage company, at least your investment are protected (similar to how PIDM protect a bank’s customer).

I understand that Kenanga Futures Sdn Bhd is in the list but it’s an entirely different company if we look at the corporate structure of Kenanga Investment Bank Bhd: https://kenanga.com.my/who-we-are/corporate-structure/

How safe are we in a highly unlikely event (remember Lehman Brothers in 2008)?
Any thoughts on that? Thank you in advance for any valuable input!
PS: Would love to upload some images to illustrate my points but the uploading server is currently down.

Not just US stocks, but SG and HK.

My trading fee is 0.1% for Bursa and a crazy high of 0.42% for foreign.
*
If you trade small amount for foreign, its so much cheaper then. For eg: SGD1k *0.42% =$4.2 compare to Fund Supermart Singapore of $10. Is there a minimum fee for foreign transactions?

Actually sudah got news that most brokers freezing new account creationsince last week, as far as i know hl, cimb has freeze but not sure about rakuten. so i guess those new trying to create new account might be affected.
*
Not a good move to freeze account. Instead what they should do is don't allow the new account holders to go on margin/contra and no short selling or oil futures. Problem solve.

Our Rakuten Trade trading platform will be undergoing enhancement for the next 2 weeks. As such, you may experience intermittent connection issues during peak periods. We deeply regret this but rest assured we are working hard to ensure a much smoother experience with our platform. Your patience and support is indeed very much appreciated. If you should experience these issues, do WA or FB message us immediately (We are trying not to tie up the phone and email lines… just in case).

If you planning to buy another share on the same day, you can still buy right away with your funds including the funds you sold.
You can see your new available amount after you click buy UI on the right hand side top corner next to "trading limit".

However, if you plan to withdraw funds after selling you need to wait for 2 days. As bursa practices T+2days.

Didn't know that. Thanks for the info

Have been having problems with Rakuten for weeks / months now. Most or all of the time unless I buy at the best bid price or at the offer price, my order will be rejected. I can try to buy at the 2nd best bid price and yet it still gets rejected. Anybody knows why or facing the same problem?

I assume you are using market order to do so. Their market order needs extra 30% trading limit.

https://www.rakutentrade.my/faqs/trading/wh...de-market-order

Just change to limit order and you are good to go.
*
No. I am using limit order
