What position you got there? Try to advoid IT positon there... its a miserable life there.

If you work as permenant staff, perhaps worth considering, coz i heard their benefit quite good. Besides getting free cigarettes ration monthly...

But their IT department is very messy. Part of the management team sucks, thus dragging the whole team. And you get the change to remain standby from open shop to close shop, which could last from 7am to 8,9,10pm or 12 am. Which in the middle you just sitting there, and standing by.

My colleague from HP, they are contractors from HP, BAT ask a whole team of developers to come to their office ASAP but never give them assignment, they end up sitting there for whole month, what a way to spend money eh?

I myself also end up sitting in office doing nothing for whole first month, feel like in prison. Most of my time here, i only considered 10% of it is production which i really busy myself with works, they rest, all waiting game. There is a saying, dont finish too fast or you end up no work for the rest of the week.

Hope i didnt scare you, and hopefully you got a better position them me.

BTW, you better be a smoker, no non-smokers can tolerate that much of 2nd hand smoke.

I saw their ad in the Star on Saturday, RM150-200k annual starting salary if you have an MBA from a top university. Not great money but not bad to start out with either...

Hahaha, that GSD you mentioned there is a very very very messy place. Management can hire a team of developers and leave them nothing to do sitting at office for a month. They can pay 20 people 200k daily, but my allowance since last year drag until 4 months later only approved, even thou its only about 50 bucks.

And can you handle 200k worth of headache? I mean really headache, you dont have your weekends, your personal time, need to attend training course on weekend also ask "why you seem like have plenty of commitment?".

Think twice when you planning to go in there. OR work there for a while so you can boast about yourself later on, never think long term overthere, well anyway, they dont think about hiring you long term anyway, most of them contractors there.

Oh, you need to suck lots of 2nd hand smoke too.

Gud luck

If you're to ask if its really like that, answer is, probably yes. But its hardly unique to just BAT lar. There's heaps of places with such problems. So mainly its to do with being able to handle that sort of environment.

a bit off topic here, but its for that exact reason why when large companies want to do something new, they just buy over another company rather than build something themselves. Because they know their own problems, and that a large organization can never out innovate a smaller company.

What rexis told is true, im also working under BAT, if its permanent position it worth considering, usually its hard to get permanent position straight away. About working hour is completely true, i also feel like in prison sitting there standby only, furthermore for contact staff there is no OT. You only can claim hour. The relaxing part is true but you can see everyone sitting the making themselves looks like busy. My claim not even in yet even though it only 80 bucks.

Permenant positon... most of the workers here are contract staff...

Maybe just because my position is low. And now i cant forseen what will happened next day. When they feel like it, they can tell you to stay till 11pm tonight, come 7am tomorrow, or even take one day off tomorrow to compensate your extra working hour. Okay, now I cant even have any plan to go yum cha with friends at night, go out for a gathering(like the agri business one in my siggy), or even go to take any training course!

How is the feel like you canceled a plan to attend a weekend training course 3 weeks ago just because its crashed with an outstation work? You packed your things and only to find out last minutes thats its prosponed, i dont even had a change to make some last minutes adjustment, course already started. Great, now not only i have wasted a weekend doing nothing, i have to wait for a few months for them to organise the same course again.

Oh i wish to highlight the "lots of 2nd smoke to suck" part.

Rants, yes.

well, sh*t happens.

i'm sure most company will face its same share of problems, due to unforeseen circumstances.

the rest of the departments are pretty well managed, probably you're under a very difficult boss.

by the way, freedom through responsibility.

Wah..seems like the IT department is really bad there at BAT GSD. I manage to get an interview (not an job offer...yet) with them ... around next week, and they did asked whether I'm a smoker or not. But, I'm not a smoker type. So, they asked whether there will be any problem to me since, most of the time, all people surrounding me will be smoking all da way...lol.

After reading the 1st post till the last 1, it seems like they are really bad in management. Together with the amount of smoke surrounding, it could be very worse for a non-smoker. Just curious, is it true that, those smokers...will still smoking around the work place (although is in the aircond area)?
Just wanna know the level of...smoke there.Lol.

Oh ya, the job is business analyst.
