Is the warranty transferable?
*
The warranty is transferable since the service center would only refer to IMEI instead of owners details. You just can't change the first owners particulars to yours.

hi all, just decided to buy the phone today after long deliberate and read the review. missed the purchase during roadshow at Sunway. From your opinion, should I buy from official Samsung Store, or for other / online seller (11street or Lazada)? I do notice that other seller normally give all those freebies (while not the same as starter kit or power bank), while buying from official Samsung Store, we only get the phone.

Actually you can try your luck at the official Samsung Store to get the pre-order set. Got mine at Setia City Mall (the person cancel the pre-order). The cons you cannot choose color but you can get all the item plus the 1 year screen warranty.

The explanation is pretty detailed for each selection.

High accuracy means using every single location method like wifi, cellular and gps.

Battery saving would only use wifi and cellular.

Device only would only use GPS itself without cellular and wifi assistance.

just a question.

someone scared of those pixels burned out.
some scare the battery cannot last long and disable many functions.
some reduce the brightness to barely can see to save battery.
some disable the AOD display to prevent burned out and some for battery life.
some disable many functions of the phone to save the few % of battery.

the question is, why do u all buy the phone?
pay so much but do not fully enjoy it or use all those functions?

my phone, all GPS, Bluetooth is always on. so i able to enjoy the full function of the phone.
my Display brightness is set to the high side, cause my eyes is more value than that battery life.

no offence, but because we would like our device to last 3 years without issues instead of 3 months. Battery health is determined by how many charge cycle, the less you use, the longer it could be use before deteriorating. Display burn in are real in S8, at least for now. I dont know if they are temporary burn in or permanent, but at this stage where nothing is confirmed, people are taking it safe to make sure we dont get annoyance that doesnt allow us to fully enjoy our phones after few months

About your first question, actually in other Android phone, they have this kind of function like called "wake up screen" but I can't find similar function in s8.

After I googled, just found out that Samsung don't have this function.

*I just jump into s8 from my huawei too, huawei also got this function why Samsung don't have......
*
yahh loh..weird right hahaha..that 1 super basic features.

Damn, my S8+ still consume 12% when I going to sleep
11.30pm batt 100%. Wakeup at 6am batt is at 88%
Normal usage seems less consume power
I suspect some app might backup using wifi while I'm sleeping
suspected culprit is whatsapp backup...
try to disable the auto backup now

yeah only one type, it's the same as how some USB connectors are super tight and some are smooth. I think they have a very minor dimension difference, but no worries. For charging, i do recommend using original cable, cos they are capable of carrying higher power flow ( charges faster ) and can properly communicate with the charger. Some google engineer tested some of the market brands and found out that not all Type C can communicate with charger and get an accurate power draw, and as the result, those cable will give a 5v 3A. Should be fine with our phone since Samsung flagship will always have voltage regulator on the charging port to protect the device, but better be safe about it.

no offence, but how to enjoy the phone when in the first place, already put so many restrictions on the phone?

all phone design to last 18 months to 2 years only.

nowadays, phone do never enter service centre within 1 year = lucky.
still alive after 2 years, untung already.

if can't afford, get a cheaper phone.

else create trouble to own self.

as what people say, use money buy trouble.

for battery health, this is the funniest part.
if like this, better buy 3310, can last years.

normal usage, battery like will degrade and left 80% or lesser after the first-year usage.
after 2 years, the battery is like half dead.

because the need to take care of the battery health, pay rm3699 and use only 5% of the phone function and pray the phone does spoil. really cannot brain this.

too bad we cant root our phone without tripping KNOX( still hate this stupid feature )
There's an app call wakelock detector that requires root, and it will show which app are waking your phone from sleep and how long are their usage time. Very useful to check what process is eating up battery. I always use that app to check on my battery life back when i was using Note 3

I dare not say for others but personally, I'm well aware of the multitude of features this beast has and I chose to use/activate as when I need it rather than all the time.

So I guess it's all about personal preference on how it's being used icon_rolleyes.gif

it depends though, some of them are not really restriction but habit, like some of my friend would turn off GPS when not using waze, cos it also prevents apps from sniffing your location, and bluetooth as well, when they are not using so that their bluetooth dont go scanning the area every once in a while, or accidentally got connected to other devices.

For myself, what I did was what you did. Nothing, I enjoyed the phone as it is, and testing here and there to see battery life. The only thing I'm more cautious with is the screen brightness, where I only set 'just enough'. For video, the video enhancer feature helps me automatically bump up the brightness, so I dont need to manage that as well.

but just saying that there are people that wants to make sure their phone last them 3-4 years. I certainly do as well, so I'm paying attention on potential problems and gathering information. Once it is legit, I'll see what I can do to reduce the risk

also, to me, a lot of feature are great, and I'll use it when i need them, but rather not turn them on all day long. Most of the good features are just a couple of gestures away anyways, it's accessible enough for me, at least

sorry for any heavy wording....

i agree with personal.

really depend how people wanna use it.

for me, i would just on all and care free.
when i need to pay using android pay or samsung pay, i just tap my phone without need to go on this and off that.

when i open map, instant i get the location and use it without need to go on the gps and so on.

when i use apps like uber, i can just open the apps a request the car without set this and that.

when i reach home, it auto connected to my wifi without this and that.

the best is, when i with my phone, i do not need to unlock the phone as it auto unlock by my bluetooth miband 2.

this is why i pay the rm3699 and enjoy use all the functions plus ease my daily life.

try do not set too low for brightness, as it does more harm to eyes...

cause when brightness low, ur eyes pupil need to open larger in order to view the display.
because of this, more UV will enter ur eyes that harm ur eyes.

Well, in technical terms, OLED don't have backlight like traditional LCD. LCD uses CCFL or LED as backlight. OLED lights itself up when being subject to electricity, eliminating the need for backlight.

The 3 navigation keys definitely lights up for most part except when you're loading games or watching videos. It's definitely prone to image retention depending on how you use your phone. For some people who can spent hours daily on social medias, wouldn't be surprised if it came to them faster than others.
*
Not too sure about this, just quoting from xda to ease some tension and worry on the burn in effect. Should the image retention be severe theres no dount whether the s8 community would be well compensated by Samsung. Samsung can't afford another fiasco for now.

I find the gear vr amusing too. Just occasionally blurry when not worn properly and the image are still a little pixalated. But for rm250, it's great 😁.

And for those vr users, we can lie down while using some apps. Tried Samsung internet so far, good for browsing YouTube etc while lying down. Can reorient screen by looking at the location and tapping the vr control.
