Keep in mind you need to spend RM5k for it to be free. Don't depend on promo for free service charge. Open POEMS SG and have zero service charge everyday without the need to buy rm5k worth if unit trust.

Hi, I'm new to unit trust. I do notice POEMS SG is zero sales charge and no platform fee. Wonder how they make money, did fund house rebate some fee back to Philip? Or the NAV price is different?

Any sifu can give comment / advice here? Thank you.

Trailer fees. When you are helping a fund to sell their funds part of the annual fees will be given to the seller of the fund. The bigger the fund and the more customer POEMS have the bigger the pay. Imagine If a fund have USD2bil of asset under management, the annual fees is easily 30mil if the fees is 1.5%. Then say the seller gets 10% cut, that's easily USD3m there.

Not to mentioned they charged exorbant fees for overseas trading and dividend fees, so some Singaporean who are kiasi (scared of losing their life basically in our discussion take it as money) will just open brokerage with them and pay the higher commision and pay the dividend fees so that they can have peace of mind that got office in sg. So I case anything happen, they can go to office and make noise. Yes there are lots of rich uncles and auntiess in Singapore who are doing that. They scoff at opening account overseas cause said no safety and no peace of mind.

Remember, the markup is substantial day USD20 on POEMS Vs IBKR at USD 0.35. The difference is big.around 3000%. hence they earned the difference.

Yes, you are correct that the fund house will gives some fees back to Philip.. In the form of trailer fees

Yes need to buy in SGD and say USD if you want to buy USD denominated products.

You will only lose money if you keep converting back and forth. If you are like me where the money is one direction only (RM -> SGD -> maintain in SGD or convert to USD using interactive broker at spot rate) you are not losing money. You will lose on initial conversion. But you will win it back in view of RM is a depreciating currency.

So your choice.

You have poems sg right? Buy from them instead. It's forever zero percent service charge. No need to wait for promo.

I would suggest if possible get poems sg (open Cash Management Acct) so it is 0% sales charge all the way. In Spore so far below 3 I found 0 sales charge and platform fee
1. dollarDex. They only do UT business
2. poems sg. They do many services besides UT
3. utrade (this I found recently under UOB Kian Hian). They do many services besides UT
4. Endowus is a bit unique as it does return any fund trailer fee rebate they got to customers but not all funds have this and their fund selection is smaller than say FSM,dollarDex,poems. They only do UT business.

But the king of UT is still FSM in terms of fund selection but they charge platform fee which is the downside.

Yes I'm Sporean and invest in UT many years.
