Redmi 5 plus might get android Oreo + newer chipset. Go for it if you can still wait. It will available very very soon as hinted by Mi Malaysia. Not recomend for you to get Imported set (set from China). Yes, you can flash it with global ROM when it's available , but some incompatibility lead to some problems might occur later as your imported set hardware is not for SEA/Malaysia region unless you are very very sure it is exactly same. You no tertanya-tanya ke why electronics gadgets want to enter Malaysia market must passed SIRIM & MCMC first ?

Redmi Note 4 probably will stuck on android Nougat but luckily it has MIUI, so you still will get system update.

The incompatibility I could possibly think off buying a imported Xiaomi phone:
1. LTE frequency band (Band 3/7/38/40 are all supported on recently released Xiaomi's phone)
2. GPS (All Xiaomi phone support GLONASS, GPS and Beidou. Both GPS and GLONASS had global coverage and Beidou covered all parts of Asia)
3. Chinese hardware had issues running Global ROM (total bullshit spew by ignorant)
4. SIRIM certification are just making sure the electrical safety standard are met and MCMC are making sure the wireless transmission will not cause any unwanted interference in wireless spectrum.

For your information, the exact same Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus just passed through SIRIM certification so I wonder could you care to educate us what kind of incompatibility that occurred with imported phones.

For the 1st time ever I face the GPS problem u all mentioned , but it is not due to any of the causes stated. Mine is due to the metal bumper case I used, which blocked the GPS signal caused me to have no GPS signal at all
*
Because metal case act as a Faraday's cage. That's why there's a antenna line on phones with metallic body. It's also why wireless charging supported phone doesn't have metallic body.
You could read up more in the wikipedia

Malaysian warranty Redmi Note 4 is better than China Import Set Note 4X?
(given similar spec)

This one was RM555 last week, the Malaysian set.
*
Is just the warranty are fulfilled by Xiaomi officially in Malaysia for Malaysia set. If the price difference are quite substantial, just go for import set since importer are doing a pretty good job at providing warranty service for phones they sold.

Also, 5plus getting quite tempting also price maybe just 80 more than note 4.

Redmi 5 Plus is better in terms of value considering the current price.

my battery become unstable. sometimes it show 50% level, but after just a few minutes later battery level become low (below > 10%). And then it will off becoz of the battery flat. But when we charge, the status more than 30%...so giler la..hehe

Sounds like your battery is worn out of charge cycle. Consider to replace it.
