External antenna confirm have better signal than internal signal. But it doesn't boost speed for every cases. If your signal is good enough, but still bad speed, it could be problem of bad modem/chipset, or telco own issue.
For sure, modem is usually much better connection than phone, because its main purpose is for internal speed and signal .
For phone, it has many reasons it worse than modem. For example, the modem chipsets (some low mid range phone use cheap chipset.) The phone build, material and design. They have to sacrifice some internal design, to make a pretty look phone. Example put the antenna to somewhere may cause interfere.

The cheapest can get all local network support is E3372 RM200.
The others cheaper modem may not work with Malaysia 3G. It is not a problem for you if you do not care about the 3G.

But please mind that, without 3G support CPE device, you may lose call function, because the device may not get digi voLTE support forever.

Every countries have different freq for their radio networks. Just like our power socket, every countries may not same as us.

So bascially, every phones and modems, there have different variants. For example iphone 7 (A1660, A1778), and S7 (G930F, G930FD, G930W8). That's why when you are buying local set phone, you have no worry about the supported band/freq. But you buy imported set, you need very careful. For phone or modem, if we want to buy imported set, unless you know very well what is supported freq, if not, you need to buy SG and HK set. These 2 are mostly same with us.

And this B310, the B310-22 is supported with our requirments.
Other than that, you may half support with 3G or 4G bands, or totally not supported at all.

Select either one band and do the speed test. Which give you the better speed and stable, lock the band permanently.
Best signal doesn't mean best speed. If you lock B3+B7 = default setting. Reasonable signal (like 2-3 signals bar) enough for you to get max speed. Sometimes better signal mean worse speed because all users are auto joined it. (System mostly auto join best signal band.)
