Instead of us just cribbing about the current problems with the gym system, I was thinking whether we could actually discuss about it in a separate topic.

Whether it works or not, maybe we could propose our ideas for improvement and possibly email someone like Nick to see if he would bring it up in his videos which has a higher chance of getting Niantic's attention.

So guys, let's talk about what are the current problems and improvements or suggestions on how the gym system can be improved.

Personally, I would like to see:

1) Priority given to person that prestiging a gym to place a pokemon and prevent sniping, similar to when a trainer takes over an opposition team's gym.

2) Consistently ensuring no gym lag - attacking, dodging, swapping, exiting, etc.

Got some other ideas in mind, but what do you guys think?

I think gym revamp is already in progress. Currently my complaint is mostly the server lag issue:
1. Battle can't start, need to restart the game.
2. You dodge but server not catch it yet, your mon end up in dead and alive loop until really dead.

For future , maybe I would like to see:
1. more variety of mon instead of current few that defending gym. Kind of boring, cause you will have the same counter mon to take them out. Really no brainer.
2. CP as gym positioning should change. There are many good mon that are very good (slowking, steelix and etc) not being use because of low CP. over 230 mon gen1+2, but only 10 being use in gym defense is not what I wanted.
3. Pvp should be fun. Let me whack the old ah pek like blissey smashing D9. Slap the shit out of him.

While they shud definitely fix those operational issues like lag, death loop etc, Im actually ok with the current system.

Whatever they do to revamp, there will be complaints, there will be complaints. Its human nature.

Im hoping for consistency rather than revamp. Imo its stupid to play a game whose rules changes all the time

On the topic of gym defenders based on cp and seeing more variety, it would be good if say the trainer that took down a gym gets to choose whether the gym is a type-themed (e.g. all water type) based on monster he / she placed, an open gym based on cp like we are used to, or any other method that would add some flavour. Lol...

Nope.. the water gyms gonna be full of gary and vape. Same old same old.

Fact of the matter is whether its ranked by CP or not, folks are still gonna be placing their most survivable mons in gyms and rattatas still not gonna be useful.

Imo.. niantic shud fix rhe fundamentals like gym error, death loop etx before playing God shifting goalpost.

True to a certain extent. However, there are further tweaks that can be added to prestige points, ranking and rewards, giving multiplying effects to less popular types; which in the long run does promote variety. E.g. less popular types say bug, grass, etc allows trainers to get more bonus, more coins, easier to prestige, etc. My 2 cents bro.

Fixing the fundamentals is definitely crucial, that I agree 100%. Even today after updating the app, when scrolling the mons in a gym near my house the app crashed and auto shut down. Had to reboot app 2x before able to battle.

Actually all needed is just set type advantage to 1.5x kau tim.

All these conversation about Gym Performance / improve kinda going no where unless Niantic :

1) Solve Spoofer & Botter issue ...Botter the worst because they can place their Pokemons anytime in a gym. Get the best Pokemons without even use their phone . ( GYM related )

2) Niantic need to have a Separate Tracker for PokemonGo the reason separate app because Tracker itself scan the area every 5/10 mins this totally lag the game itself so need to be separate apps . This will end all tracking apps & web out there . Again Tracker itself lead people to Spoof . ( game related )

3) Trainertips Nick pretty much wont change anything because he already mentioned a lot his vids how to improve the game itself still the samo samo stuff .. ( game related )


4) The extra features you guys mentions such as PVP or Trading also good options to add . Trading sometimes can lead to Money scam / laundering think about it .

5) I discarded a lot items from my inventory can you imagine if they offer Xp & stardust discard items that might very useful / helpful . . ( game related )

A wild thought, what say trainer can place 3 mon in 1 slot, and the highest CP will be place in display, other 2 are hidden. When other want to attack the gym, randomly or some AI (type advantage) 1 of the 3 will be chosen to defend. Right now it is very attacker advantage, you see what in the gym, and choose the best mon in your huge storage.

will the new gym system still be CP based??

I've power-ed up a few pokemons like Snorlax and Blissey but if the new system is not CP-based ranking, then sayang lah...

I wouldn't mind the AI swapping when battling opposition gyms, but imagine trying to prestige own team's gyms... that's going to a be pain man... Lol...

For training, niantic can program to use the one holding gym. That's mean for same team, what you see is what you get.

You can also try new attackers like use azumaril instead of vaporeon or lanturn instead of jolteon or try using poliwrath to fight snorlax.

Few more issues .. while battling get kicked out with error msg. Worse part is if continue battle still can take down 2-3 moms. So effectively wasted potions and prestige points. Have to battle again.. but if first few mons are blissey n snorlax.. u get what I mean.. tiring...

I finally thought of the perfect and fair gym system!!
all pokemons will be arranged by their CP in a gym, like the current system.

In addition to gym prestige, they'll be given an internal prestige system, say 1000 to each pokemon in the gym. So, everytime the gym prestige is reduced and have to kick one pokemon out, the pokemon with the lowest prestige will go first!!

For example:
1) 50000 prestige gym was battled and lost 11000 prestige. All Pokemon had their battle. From 1000, each pokemon's prestige will be reduced by the number of second left in their timer during each battle.
- Blissey is toughest, so less time left, so its prestige reduces by little.
- double weaknesses pokemon, battles were left with more remaining time, so more prestige points are reduced.

2) say the opponent only battles the first 3 pokemons, all 3 pokemons' prestige will be reduced by its remaining seconds, while the rest of the 7 pokemons will be reduced by the average of the remaining time of these 3 battles.
In other words, if the gate keepers were weak, the rest will be weakened.

now I feel like writing my proposal to Niantic.

The main complaint about gyms currently are:

- Blardy gym errors
- Stagnation.. gyms nearby are high levelled and dominated by folks other than those living nearby who feels that they're entitled to hold it.
- Which most folks attributes to spoofers who don't have to physically go out feed mosquito to take those gyms.
- Gym variety... the nerdy ones wants Shuckle to be viable gym defender.

Your "perfect" system will just make gym situation worst Instead of the couple of Blisseys and a bunch of Ttars and D9 hiding under her skirt, you'll have have full blissey gyms everywhere then.

By design, gyms are ALREADY easier to take down then to build up.

Of course there's the earlier bubblestrat and now gastlystrat but when there's enough ppl playing, it wouldn't matter.

In my gym run this morning... while taking down the first Lvl 7 blue gym, someone join in the fight, I put in my 3.1K blissey and proceed to take lvl 3 yellow gym under 1 minute away.

Halfway through, I saw that my red gym turned blue ... I put in my Blissey then went back to take the 1st gym again, took down the snorlax and blissey in record time... put in Blissey then I saw 2nd gym turned yellow.

Run there again... took the 2 defenders down... I saw battle animation on the first gym... quickly click shop... saw 20 coins... press.... then the display only showed 10 coins. Look at screen.... 1st gym down.... then I saw the fella walking up next to me to take gym 2.

IMO, its really simple for Niantic really (implementation is diff story)..

- Fix blardy gym errors
- Open more pokestops and spawns for rural folks which I believe theyre doing now.
- Get rid of spoofers.
- Attract more people to play again.

TSOM that's kinda ok but there are a lot of dynamics and a formulae that needs to be incorporated.

sniper on the roof I agree with adding stops, adding gyms and fixing gym errors plus lag, improvements to prestiging, etc. But I have a problem with them addressing spoofing solely now when there is a huge influx of botting happening. If they focus solely on stopping spoofing, a lot of ppl have moved to create botted accs which is totally wiping out any possibility of players getting chance to get gym placement. On fb pogo my, u see loads of players even seasoned ones talking about it.

Bots are trickier.

I can somewhat understand why ppl spoof but I don't understand why ppl bot? Just for the sake of being arseholes?

But its also a double edged sword cos if Niantic really manages to totally eliminate botting, they will also end up killing off a huge portion of player base in countries that are used to having trackers... ex Japan, South Korea etc

And these are some of the countries that spends the most $$$ on IAP.

I suspect big potion of Pokémon go trainers are in these 2 categories. Niantic cant and wouldn't take drastic action, cause it will affect their business.
Beside the obvious unfairness of the above, anyone using external tracker and hold multiple account also against their "fairness policy". And official botting device from Nintendo created for Pokémon go, the Pokémon go plus (I got 1, it is pretty easy to farm stardust with this, especially good during 6hr lure).
In the end, you play if you enjoy the game, else just stop.

Yeah.. Niantic said there's currently ~65million active players.

I suspect half or more of that are bots.

On the issue of external tracker, its Niantic's own messy start that necessitate external trackers and they can't expect folks whos used to play that way to just stop using them.

Instead of just fighting them, Niantic coul work with a select few for official access. That way, they'll have some level of control over whats being shown but most of all, it'll also cut off funding to the developers.. api hashing services.

kww that's why I said rather niantic focus on improvements, enhancement and new features first. By introducing new "some" security update and claim to stop spoofing but allowing widespread botting is not right.

Disclaimer first, I'm more of a business person and know next to nothing technically beyond what I've read on the interweb. Please correct me where I'm wrong.

It used to be that everybody had more or less easy access to Niantic's server in the early days until they took it seriously and started changing the API every once a while.

Remember all the hoohah... poketracker (If recall) quitting... all those open letters to Niantic?

Apparently cracking the API all the time became such a chore (25 days full time for 4 person) that access became paid service with people working full time...

But where there's demand, there's gonna be supply.

Trackers need a craploads of bots and while I can't confirm how much its true, I recall the operator of the local tracker in Taipei saying it cost upwards of TWD50K to operate per day... so there's good amount of money going towards API hashing service.

So if Professor Willow himself come out with a new tracker, players won't really need 3rd party trackers (as many players have stated during the initial crackdown) at the first place.

Individual botters either pay or get free keys from folks that subscribes in bulk from advertising revenue but nevertheless, trackers should be by far the largest source of revenue.

Without them, there's not gonna be much reward nor motivation for folks to sweat it out to keep up with Niantic.

I have no doubt on the business side of things. But what I don't appreciate is saying you are curbing spoofing which is a smaller problem compared to botting towards gym stagnation that ppl are cribbing about. I continue to play the way I play. In fact I have to park my Mon in high spoofer / botter territory. Lol...

Good news indeed eventho i enjoy battling multiple blissey gym with my eggs.

It's good news from Niantic, and also will force users to focus to other mon instead of those regular. You can finally hear the silent inner roars from those like Pinsir, Onix and other mon "Notice us Niantic!!!"

i only 26xx(iv 31) and 2300(IV71) Blissey... got high IV Chansey but not yet ready to upgrade let alone power up to max CP coz not enough of candies...

you will need top 10 highest CP mon to complete daily 100 coins challenge. It's good that gym turnover will be higher instead of letting trainer hogging lvl 10 for days or weeks. it encourage trainer for gym battle and earn coins.

LOL... its going to get harder. Hopefully more fun though.

1. We will see more diversified gyms, but the regular culprits will remain.... Assume max 2 of each species (yest i posted 3, which could be too much), 2 Tyra, 2 D9, 2 Snorlax, 2 Blissey and 2 of either Gary + Rhydon + Vape. If you leave anything else, most likely your team mates will kick you out anyhow... LOL.

2. Pinsir, Onix, even all the starter evolutions (6) and high 2.8 - 2.9k like Egg, Espeon, Donphan, etc. will still be sidelined bro because their max cp potential is low....really unfortunate though.

We will need to work harder to get multiples of each.... target will be 4 Tyra (>3.5k), 6 D9 (>3.4k), 4 Snorlax (>3.1k), 4 Blissey (>3k)... already close to 20 mons... Then of coz Gary, Rhydon, Vapes... But i wont pump Rhydon. Gary and Vapes... yes. Bila wanna to have quad stardust event.... LOL

Not really big changes, but good to have some variety. After some time I think will go back to same pattern and will dominate by the high lev and hardcore trainers. Not going to encourage new or casual trainer.
I would want to see more drastic change like removed CP as gym placement or consider other parameters like time, trainer lev etc.... well, just my wish.

Let's wait and see how it come out.

Normally i will put my mid range D9 (2.4k, 2.5k) snorlax and RosJynx(2k cp) to park gym once i take down or slot in or up prestige and slot in..

There will still be level 10 gyms. But u will see a lot of same trainers in nearby gyms (all pakat ald).
At this point, just play as it is, see what happens when introduced. No matter what, there will still be ppl complaining. We just hang in there, see what the rework is like then only decide how to pump. For now just stick to pumping those few - i.e. if can't park still can use for atk.

Actually i easy fix that niantic can introduce is to cap the number of gyms a player can hold / place mon in at one time. Since we can claim only 10, that should be the max. We can still battle and prestige >10, but not allowed to place mon. At least it will reduce some slots in gyms (P.S I'm guilty of this sometimes - placing mon in > 10 gyms). And honestly, i would love to see more gyms being put in the game, but in safe public places. Don't la put them in private residences, cemetery, etc.

Taipei's got very dense buildings... Just last week when i was playing while jalan jalan in taipei...saw magnemite pop up.. then of course i catch lah.. then kena soft banned. Like dafuq did i do until i check the magnemite... Apparently i got teleported to hualien 169km away. Lucky got 40 spins that time.. else my whole day wasted

Happens to me at home also.. staying in high rise.
All I did was switch on WiFi, on gps and do mass evolve. When finish see some interesting mon, catch then they run. Have to go find stop n spin.. Now no need ald.. can off pogo and wait long long. Wish they could allow option of switching lucky egg without gps. At least I can conserve batt.

Actually players are softbanned for a few minutes... nothing to do with spinning stops.

30 spin to be exact. AFAIK it always work on softban. But current the new patching with update to all the trainer's pogo, i think it will be a history liao.

The "spin stops 40x" is a way to "un-ban" in any case you kena soft ban. It may not be 40x per se, but a fairly good number of times till items drop. Whether as a result of travelling to fast, gps drift or actual sp**fing. But recently this method of "unbanning" is not allowed. If you are soft-banned, you'll have to take a cooler.

Btw, there is approx. a 5 minute ban now for re-engaging with that gym when you were erroring out of a battle due to GPS drift.

There is a workaround to prevent drift, but risky... i tested it out this morning but kinda laggy. I also afraid kena ban man. Acc kena flagged.
