Last time my xtrail 2.5 2003 with 240K km use Total 15W-50, after 2000km of drive, a quarter of oil gone. Then next oil change switch to Shell HX3 20W-50, after 4000km drive oil just drop a little bit only.

Engine wear already happen. No point u use more expensive or better oil. It is waste of money. You will keep burning those 10-15/40 oils no matter how expensive it is. Its either u keep using the current 20/50 and live with it being under powered or go for overhaul. White smoke usually means piston rings are done already.

QUOTE(pw8799 @ Mar 25 2017, 07:12 AM) Check for leaks, droplets of leaks daily will result in substantial loss of EO in time. Either that or get someone to watch the exhaust when u throttle at idle. Some cases where the burning of EO is minimal, smoke only detected during acceleration. However one clear sign is the smell of burnt EO which is very obvious even though smoke may not be visible.QUOTE(netmatrix @ Mar 25 2017, 09:08 AM) If no smoke, that means you should have a leak. Engine oil does no dissapear without a trace. Its either burnt up or leaking. Agreed. |

My old waja 2003, odometer 298k km. Keep using fully Synthetic 5w-40 or 5w-30 from day one.
No oil eat syntoms whatsoever. Keep change the oil at 12-13k km per interval. Hardly rev the engine on daily use, it known for underpower 4G18 auto. |

I'm currently pushing semisyn Total Energy 10W40 beyond 15K km and going...... basing on Blotter Spot Test results.
