Apple unveiled a new iPad on Tuesday starting at $329, introducing a lower-cost model of its tablet to boost sales.

The iPad will feature a 9.7-inch screen, A9 processing chip and up to 10 hours of battery life. It will be available to order on March 24.

In addition, it will be same thickness as iPad air instead of iPad air 2 which is about 1mm more compared to air 2.

Now everyone can surf with iPad at more affordable price !

Update: After a careful look at Apple's iPad comparison page, we've found the new iPad's Achilles' heel. Its screen isn't laminated to the glass and doesn't have the anti-reflective treatment found on the screen of every other iPad. The iPad Air 2, by comparison, had a fully-laminated screen, which removes a visible gap between the display and the glass cover. If you've used a device with a laminated screen (which includes most phones out there now), the notion of going backwards there isn't promising.

Screen resolution is not the only thing that affects image quality on screen. It is a fact that less work is put into the screen of this new iPad compared to the iPad Air 2.

I think so. Since the death of Steve Jobs, Apple did not have any revolutionary products. All they have been doing is adding little improvements to their products. Sometimes I think they are lost by releasing so many variations of one product. This new iPad sounds like they are back to basics: simplicity. Or I could be wrong. I just hope they could keep their standards and what it matters most to me: it just work.

I doubt it. Apple is jumping in the bandwagon by following the trend, not MAKING the trend that OTHERS have to follow.
For instance, look at all the color options available for iPhone. Now you have the latest 'Limited' edition, RED !
With Steve Jobs, you only have their iconic colors. Just like Jobs with his philosophy of having the same color turtleneck sweater, he made it work with iPhones too. No wasting time on choice, just one GREAT product to get.
But now, so many options. Won't be surprised if Apple comes out with mix & match too....

Think Apple needs to get back to its roots.

They can't, they lost a visionary and one who can create new markets whilst Tim Cook is an operations guy and you can see what he does best in Apple's strategies. Nothing brilliantly innovative but just purely business. The new iPad is purely to aim at the education market which Apple has been losing ground on with the proliferation of Chromebooks.

I think the new iPad non-laminated screen doesn't make much difference. The screen per pixel is the same as Pro 9.7 and Air 2. I don't think many of us stare at the screen edge that often.

Having recently upgraded from Mini 3 to Pro 9.7, of course the display difference is day and night. But i don't really feel the difference between laminated and non-laminated screen. Unless you use apple pencil on iPad Pro, then of course you'll feel the difference. Writing on a laminated screen gives a more realistic feel of writing.

If you're seriously considering the pro, I seriously recommend that you be patient and wait for the next gen pro. It's due for a refresh real soon. Otherwise if you can't wait and need something urgently, the Air 2 (if you can get it cheaper than the 2017 iPad) is of much better value since we know the latest iPad only had minor improvements and I can foresee Apple being able to support the iPad Air 2 for many more years to come.
