A US Black Hawk helicopter crashed approximately 32 kilometres off the southern coast of Yemen while the crew was training on Friday evening. A search was under way for one US service member.

The US military said that the incident took place at about 7pm local time.

“US forces in the region are conducting an ongoing search for one US service member who was aboard the aircraft,” the US Central Command said in a statement. “Five US service members who were also aboard the aircraft were rescued by US forces following the crash.

“An investigation will be initiated.”

CENTCOM spokesman Col John Thomas told Reuters that the “helicopter was not very high above the water” when the incident took place.

Belgian military pilot falls from helicopter during airshow

QUOTE
Troops are searching an area of eastern Belgium where a pilot fell out of his military helicopter during an air show.

Three troops had jumped with parachutes from the Agusta A-109 helicopter, but the pilot and co-pilot did not have parachutes, Belgian media report.

They say the co-pilot helped the three jump, but then saw the pilot's seat empty and his door wide open. He grabbed the controls and landed safely.

The air show was at Amay near Liège. The pilot fell several hundred metres.

The reason for the pilot's fall remains a mystery.

Authorities say a county sheriff says the pilot of an Arizona Air National Guard F-16 jet that crashed Tuesday afternoon was killed.

The Arizona Daily Star reports Graham County Sheriff P.J. Allred said the crash site is about 20 miles northwest of Safford. The F-16 was attached to the Arizona Air National Guard’s 162nd Wing at Tucson International Airport.

The crash was the second involving an F-16 Fighting Falcon flying from the 162nd Wing and the third F-16 crash in Arizona, since mid-2015.

The U.S. Air force has activated a team to investigate Tuesday’s crash.
