Firearms firm develops a folding .22LR pistol the size of a deck of cards

A firearms manufacturer has designed a folding handgun that can deliver a deadly shot, despite being able to fit in your wallet. The tiny shooter, which can hold five .22 rounds, is the same dimensions as a stack of credit cards.

The Lifecard.22LR, marketed as 'the last gun you'll leave behind', weighs just seven ounces (198g), less than a Big Mac.

The company behind the gun, Trailblazer Firearms, is said to have been working on the concept for the LifeCard for seven years. The North Carolina firm say the small pistol boasts a steel barrel, bolt and trigger and extra ammo storage for four extra rounds. The pistol is a break-open single shot type, where the user manually opens the breech, reload the ammunition and cock the firing pin for each shot.

It folds up into a 3.375 inch (8.6 cm) by 2.215 inch (5.6 cm) card that is half an inch (1.27 cm) thick.

It is going on sale throughout the US for $399, apart from California and Massachusetts, through various distributors, including Ellett Brothers and Jerry’s Sport Center.

The first deliveries are expected in mid August.

CHINA will offer Malaysia advanced rocket launchers and a radar system, to be based in Johor, reflecting the widening defence and trade ties between the two countries in the South China Sea region, sources told The Malaysian Insight.

The generous low-interest offer will be made by a high-level delegation headed by Chinese President Xi Jinping's special envoy visiting Malaysia for the East Coast Rail Link launch tomorrow.

"Up to 12 units of the AR3 multiple launch rocket system (MLRS) will be offered to Malaysia in a purchase programme with a loan period of 50 years," a source told The Malaysian Insight.

"The MLRS, which has a top range of 220km, will be located in Johor with a radar system," added the source, confirming The Malaysian Insight'sreport last April.

Lockheed Martin wins $8 billion U.S. special forces contract

user posted image

WASHINGTON - Lockheed Martin Corp <LMT.N> has won an $8 billion U.S. defense contract for global logistics support services for special operations forces, the Pentagon said on Friday.

The U.S. military often relies on outside contractors to perform support services including logistics at warehouses and depots as well as maintenance, modifications and repairs on equipment like airplanes and vehicles.

The contract will support the Army's Green Berets, Rangers as well as Navy SEALs, the U.S. Department of Defense said in a statement.

The 10-year award will extend Lockheed Martin's current support contract which was set to expire in September 2018.

Project JENTAYU. Royal Malaysian Air Force experimental project to create a airborne gunship similar with AC-47 and AC-130 using M197 20mm Gatling gun and M134 Minigun gun-pod on DHC-4 Caribou. The project were considered as failure due to high-maintenance cost and unsuitable aircraft. The airborne gunship role later taken by Aloutte III armed with 20mm Mauser canon.

35mm CIWS ordered for Indonesian Frigates

14 Agustus 2017

user posted image
35mm CIWS Millenium Gun (photo : Rheinmetall)

Rheinmetall has received an order for its Millenium Gun 35mm naval weapon system to outfit Indonesia's two new Sigma 10514 Perusak Kawal Rudal (PKR) light frigates.

Damen handed over the first frigate in February this year, with the second undergoing contractor sea trials at press time (late May). Delivery of this ship is planned for October 2017. The primary mission of the 105m, 2,365 tonne ships is anti-air, anti-surface and anti-submarine warfare. Secondary roles include maritime security, search and rescue and humanitarian support.

DTR believes four Millenium Gun systems are part of the Indonesian order. Each Sigma 10514 PKR frigate is allocated one Millenium Gun system installed forward of the bridge. The first Sigma 10514 PKR frigate was delivered without its Millenium Gun system, although the plinth mount is visible in photographs.

Able to fire Rheinmetall's Advanced Hit Efficiency And Destruction (AHEAD) programmable 35mm ammunition, a single Millenium Gun mount can operate as both CIWS and secondary armament on surface combatants of various sizes. Millenium Gun's Oerlikon revolver cannon fires at up to 1,000 rounds per minute. Using AHEAD ammunition natures, figures from Rheinmetall cite that a 25-round burst can achieve a kill a manned aircraft at 3,500m against guided missiles/cruise missiles at 2,000m and against a sea-skimming anti-ship missile at 1,500m. Keep out range against surface targets is approximately 4,000m.

The Indonesian Air Force already operates the Oerlikon 35mm revolver cannon as the effector elements of its land-based Skyshield very short-range air defence system. These system can be ground or truck-mounted.

Indonesia shortlists BT-3F amphibious tracked vehicle from Russia for marines corps

Ridzwan Rahmat - IHS Jane's Navy International

Key Points

• Indonesia has shortlisted the Russian developed BT-3F amphibious tracked vehicle to replace its marines corps’ ageing BTR-50PKs
• Contract may see Indonesia become the first international customer of the BT-3F

A request by the Indonesian Marines (Korps Marinir – KORMAR) to formally withdraw from further acquisitions of the BTR-4 8x8 amphibious wheeled armoured personnel carriers (APCs) is close to being approved by the Indonesian government, and the service has singled out Russia’s BT-3F platform as a front runner replacement in the programme.

Sources from the Indonesian Navy (Tentara Nasional Indonesia – Angkatan Laut, or TNI-AL) told Jane’s on 14 August that as part of a due diligence process to select the replacement, KORMAR chief Major General Bambang Suswantono, and a delegation of senior officers from the service, will arrive in Russia in the week beginning 21 August to witness a demonstration of the BT-3F near Moscow.

Major Gen Bambang will also participate in the Army 2017 military-technical forum as part of his visit, and visit the premises of Concern Tractor Plants, the Russian heavy industry equipment developer that designed BT-3F. KORMAR is a service under the TNI-AL’s command structure.

The Indonesian House of Representatives’ commission on defence, intelligence, and foreign affairs (Komisi I) had previously approved a sum of USD95 million under the country's 2017 defence budget to replace the KORMAR's ageing BTR-50PK APCs with BTR-4s. This approval was granted in addition to the initial batch of five BTR-4 APCs ordered by the Indonesian Ministry of Defence (MoD) from Ukraine's defence industry holding group UkrOboronProm in February 2014.

RSAF's F-15SG fighter jets to take part in US air combat exercise

user posted image

SINGAPORE - The Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) has announced its participation in Exercise Red Flag - Nellis, a large-scale air combat exercise in Nevada hosted by the United States Air Force (USAF).

The exercise, which starts on Monday (Aug 14) and ends on Aug 25, will take place at the Nellis Air Force Base.

The RSAF will deploy eight F-15SG fighter jets and more than 100 personnel from its Peace Carvin V detachment in Idaho's Mountain Home Air Force Base, the Ministry of Defence (Mindef) said in a statement.

The other international participants are from Saudi Arabia and the US, with observers from Chile, Oman and Romania.

More than 100 aircraft will be involved in the high-intensity air-to-air combat exercise, including Saudi Arabia's EF-2000 Eurofighter Typhoons and the USAF's F-22, F-16C/D, F/A-18C/D fighter jets and E-3A airborne early warning aircraft.

The Republic of Singapore Air Force's F-15SG figher jets were used for the first time at this year's National Day Parade.

RSAF wows netizens with 360-degree video of what it looks like inside an F-15SG fighter jet

The participating countries will engage in a series of realistic and challenging training missions, which will allow participants to hone their combat readiness and sharpen operational capabilities.

The RSAF has been taking part in Exercise Red Flag - Nellis since 1992.

Mindef said Singapore's participation underscores its "excellent and long-standing defence relationship" with the US.

It added that the exercise provides the RSAF with an opportunity to benchmark itself against other leading air forces.
