Currently i'm playing Doom game in ASCII and Avernum3...

OMG, i was still impressed about the combat style of Avernum3....
for those who might want to try ASCII games, be sure that u read every text in that game or u'll be lost

Before the birth of Everquest and other MMORPGs, Ascii games(or Multi User Dungeon thus M.U.D) were the MMORPG of that time. It was awesome

you can play it from ANYWHERE in the world as long as you have internet access.
all you need is the host address and port, start up your telnet, or third party MUD clients such as Gmud and Zmud and get going.

you move around typing 'east west north south' or by just the first letters,
and you go action by typing commands such as 'kill, loot, run, open door, close door, etc etc'

Over 1000 MUDs were avaliable worldwide, and a MUD games list of hosts could be found on www.mudconnect.com
not sure if its still up now.

Every year I load up Ultima 7: The Black Gate using Dosbox.

There's an Exult version, but I prefer the original.

No other RPG is like this game.

Although I must say the dungeons in this game is relatively poor compared to Ultima 6.

I'm starting to play the MUD I used to play, again, while waiting the latest balance patch for DC. And incredibly, there are still like 200+ people are playing it after 10 years (not to mention the same old admin team still supporting it by adding new content LOL)

In my opinion, those hack and slash graphical MMORPG now will never replace MUD ever as role play is one of the important factor that keep the old folks to stay in the game.

Total Annih is a very good game thou. I love maps that have metals everywhere, let alone metal itself. Unlimited resources! The idea of converting from one type of resource to another is another cool factor and the bots are awesome at that time. Much better than mech warrior.

last time i downloaded a MUD server installed it on my comp and play single player omg so lame lol

It's play like that, just like a chess, but those pieces is not like in chess, they are those dragon or animal, & is not moving like chess....

we used to boot computer with a DOS floppy.

i'm still playing Avernum 3. downloaded Avernum 4 and Blades of Avernum, but haven't played yet. Exiles series and Avernum series are some of first RPG games i played coz their low system requirements.

there is one ASCII game i played in my very old computer back in '96 named Angband. was a cool game..but never finish it.

some games that came with the PC like Tyrian, Wolf3D, Doom, Treasure Mountain..and also those games from floppy like Xenon-2, Moonbugs. there's a lot more..but forgot already.

i'm looking for Maui Malard:Cold Shadows CDs too if anyone still have. Wiling to pay.

Its about 2 gorilla throwing bananas at one another. There's this wind and you need to guess the X & Y co-ordinate to hit the other gorilla. Quite fun game xD

Strike Commander and Star Command were good flight sims and space sim

Still got another game, i think is a 2 player game, both will hav a tank & a helicopter.
Objective is simple, 'search & destroy', just need to find the base of opponent, & blast it down.

I remember Chess Master 2000 whoah suppose to be damn keng then Chess Master 3000 fooh supposed programmed by Karpov.

Then came deep blue and its all conquering ways and this genre died coz no way can beat CPU oredi.

Star war flight sims was good, X-wing, Tie Fighter(I had the expansion that featured the Advanced, Defender, And Missile Boat), and rebel assaults . Some of the first game I played with real sounds instead of beep and boops from the PC speaker. Not to mention they're filled with cinematic scenes too.

Strategy game only has one word to make the genre good that time - X-com.

FPS is non-other than Doom. Oh, I almost forgotten, Descent!

At current I only have Open source version of Transport Tycoon on my PC.

Thats why I like MIME can emulate most games on one machine but I guess they don't port old dos games yet. Thats the problem of having competition usually nostalgia is thrown out the window, you can't get the old games anymore and get them all to work on a single hardware

I think GODS is free now. Try finding on dos game sites like abandonia or home of the underdogs.

Trend based gaming pretty much killed all possible sequels to awesome games sadly and some of these game developer still hold licenses to these game(That's why you can't find them online for free). I missed the X-wing series >.<

Lol and I would think that most of you start playing games from ps2 onwards. My favourite is the Ultima VI. Damn good game and I can still hum the background music.

There are homebrew rom's that look exactly like the arcade game.

ahh... sweet memories. but after a while, i tend to get bored with them and end up playing BF2142 instead.

You need to set it to Windows 95 compatibility mode. Right-click on the startup icon, select properties, and set compatibility to Win 95. Should work then.
