The following is an example of 1 unit i got from DELL last week but already sold. It is rare to get XPS M1210. But other models like 6400, 1300 and 640M are common. My supply from DELL is not very consistence, but if i can get one, it will definitely be cheaper than what you can get from DELL.

My Twinhead no problem at all.

My classmate & friends (about 6) all bought Twinhead during last year PC Fair. So far so good.

But those purchase Compaq & Acer, have some problem within 1 year.

Dell & IBM should OK (no comment), while Fujitsu & Toshiba quite good quality - but too expensive.

i vote for IBM Thinkpad

company has 2 notebook

IBM Thinkpad P3 500mhz bought 7yrs ago - working smoothly and mainly use for business presentation + surf net, the Notebook still looks solid.

Acer Travelmate Celeron x gig bought 2yrs ago - virtually all application lag for long-long, call up supplier and they recommend add memory, still same. This week send back for service for the third time.

Shared memory is to use the physical memory of the notebook when its needed to render graphic for the system. Mostly these GFX cards have around 32-64MB of its own memory but when that's used up it will use the physical RAM of your notebook depending on how much it has to render(some goes up to 128-256 for really high qual stuff) . You'll notice some portion of ram missing when you check your system (alt+click my computer) Eg. 512MB to 468~490ish (my rig says 0.99GB)

I agree that formerly known IBM Thinkpad come with good quality, now change Lenovo THINKPAD which is same as IBM... previous IBM more focus on corperate sales, but now LENOVO = IBM they oso focusing on end users & the prices are very competitive to others...

Acer Travelmate cheap but quality sucks... cheap things not good & good things not cheap....
