Managed to upgrade to 10.10.5 with 4gb of ram. Maybe i am used to my ipad air 2, but the minor lag here and there kinda makes it a bummer...

DIY? Is it hard to change it? What type of SSD do we need here?

Quite easy to DIY. You can follow the instructions here: https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/MacBook+Pro+15...Replacement/670

i think any SSD will work. 256gb is about RM 400

Take note your MBP doesn't support SATA III.

Therefore, the maximum throughout is 300 MB/s and you won't be able to use your SSD at full speed. smile.gif

Oh, okay. Thanks for the info. hmm.gif

Is this ok and can it fit into a macbook? Just ordinary 120gb should be enough for my usage.

I never use dell ssd. So I can't comment.

However, I can recommend the below SSD as I m using now.

1. 256GB Samsung Evo 850
2. 240GB Kingston UV400
3. 240GB Sandisk Ultra ii SSD

Samsung is the best, follow by Sandisk and Kingston.

Size wise, I will choose 7 mm SSD for laptop usage.

Supports SATA only, not SATA II or SATA III.

Upgraded to a SSD, Kingston UV400 at 120GB. Although the link speed is only 1.5, but i can feel its speed blazing away. Much better than ordinary 5400rpm hdd.

Should i get el capitan? How to get one?
