I have a car that's gone through more than a couple of o2 sensors already. Usually when the sensors fail, the car gives off a very choking sulphuric smell when stationary and if the engine is running. Stinks like rotten eggs. Last time the sensor failed, everytime I parked the car and got out, it would be the first thing I smelt...

Yeah, that's true about 02 sensors, they don't last that long, quite delicate I must say. I wonder why they never invented something better to tackle this problem. I wonder why they never invented something better to tackle this problem. Actually they have. It's already a surprised that it lasted as long as it did. Imagine, the sensor has to be sensitive enough to compare O2 levels inside and outside of the exhaust and at the same time must withstand between 700-1000 degrees C for a few years worth of driving. So if it fails after 4 years, I consider it a pretty damn strong component. Even stainless steel extractors and exhaust manifolds can fail earlier than the O2 sensor.

Well, my jazz has 2 sensors at the exhaust manifold. One placed before and another one after the catalytic converter. I changed my extractor twice and de-cat. Honda SC will have their software in their laptop to be plugged to your ECU onboard thru a serial port under your dahsboard at the driver side. Well, the software showed DTE errors when analysing my eCU after i changed my exhaust system. But after erased it and reset and recalibrate my ECU. It's fine again. Reason is that the sensor being detached before for my case. The mechanic at my SC even ask me to drive around with him on the laptop monitoring my ECU to check everything is okay before reset and recalibrate my ECU. Same thing i rebored my throttle body and screwed up my TP sensor. That Honda SC is at Ampang. They give best service compare to any other SC. As for your case, maybe you should pay another visit to other SC for 2nd opinion since the SC you went dont even know how to monitor your ECU through their notebook. get from kedai potong. Engine light doesn't necessary mean is the O2 sensor spoil, is is just telling you that there is a problem. You need to use a Logger Reader in service center to get the error code. From the code, it will tell you which part of your system giving problem, then from there you need to pin point what is causing the problem.
