I just got back from servicing my car at Honda, and just found out that my oxygen sensor is f***ed, and the reason behind why the engine check light is always on the past couple of days. yada yada yada, they quote me RM1100 for it! What the f***?? Kanine so expensive, so i decided to think about it first.

any car expert here can tell me why is it so important that i fork out RM1100 to change this little shit. This shit that just totally screw up my "Im going to buy a PS3!" plan. and is there any generic, 3rd party oxygen sensor out there?

O2 sensor usually located at ur exhaust manifold.. its used by the ECU to determine where ur combustion is lean or rich.. n adjust accordingly...

brand new sure exp la... try searching around for it...

which model of honda btw?

QUOTE
Oxygen sensor(s) - Monitors the amount of oxygen in the exhaust so the ECU can determine how rich or lean the fuel mixture is and make adjustments accordingly

As quoted from howstuffworks. smile.gif

Regarding the price, I'm not sure if it's reasonable. laugh.gif However, try checkiing your car elsewhere and see how that shop quote you, besides confirming that your oxygen sensor is down. nod.gif

Woah, very important man.
Like what everyone else is quoting, it is to determine whether your car is running rich or lean. If it's running rich, the O2 sensor detects too little oxygen and decreases fuel. If it's lean, it'll detect excess oxygen so increase fuel.

Whle I was in Australia, I thought the O2 sensor was quite expensive there as well. Forgot the price already but probably almost AUD 300. But what do I know back then. blush.gif

So compare it to here, probably a bit too expensive I think.

O2 sensor is an essential component of the ECU in managing air/fuel mixture. Your car's fuel consumption and engine power depends heavily on it.

Yeah, I agree with ulet that you call up spare part shops for price. And I also highly recommend PH Auto, ask for Mr. Beh, the boss there. I get all my Nissan spare parts from PH Auto. Price is very reasonable.

But I am a bit shocked at how fast your O2 sensor is damaged... O2 sensor usually no need to change during a car's life. It is designed to last beyond 150,000km. What year is ur Honda and what model?

2004 Accord 2.4... How much mileage have you clocked up so far?

Price on O2 sensors varies from car to car. My B14 Sentra's O2 sensor (Bosch) cost around RM300, but some may cost higher depending on make and model.

Dude, I suggest you take your Accord to another trusted mechanic to check if it's really the O2 sensor that's giving problems. If he can confirm that, only then go to buy the part.

As to which shop to go to, it really depend on where you are, man. If you're in PJ area, by all means go to PH Auto.

dunno the price and the installation cost but from other forummer response, RM1100 is way overprice.

Actually, to install the O2 sensor is very easy... Plug and play only... But the resetting of the ECU part after installing it will require some expertise...

try give those shops a call and ask for prices 1st. survey !!
and also call the PH auto. so if they sell more expensive, u can bragain at least roughly u know how much is the price. later they cut throat and sell rm100-200 more expensive even though is cheaper than what honda said.
