Hi, can you share what maintenance you performed on your avanza? my avanza 1.5 2008 is consuming about 24L of petrol for 200km drive. Not sure if its normal or not but I hope something can be done so that the FC improves. running on 310k km mileage atm,  cant remember the last time I replaced spark plugs.

so i'm planning to replace the spark plugs during the next service. Have you cleaned your oxygen sensor before? please share the item and cost of the maintenance performed on your car for reference.

thanks! biggrin.gif
*
8.3km/l is really bad FC.
u should check yr o2 sensor, sometime when yr o2 sensor not good will cause bad fc.

Do you have example(s) of the big problem you have?
*
for year 2019, change radiator fan motor, nearly overheat when it started to kong. AC not cold, open up and service, but fortunally cooling coil no need change, but still cost like rm500 for the service.
for other wear and tear item such as replace engine mount, front lower arm, stabilizer link, anti roll bar bush.
more previously , all four shock absorber change.

Thanks, will check. Usually my car will feel powerful after oil change, but this time after oil change like no power also, sigh.
Xm2 definitely best but cost rm300 in my city lol, Bridgestone ep150 rm200, and haven't ask about dunlop j5 yet...
*
wait, if u still stock size, 185/65/r15 , 300 for xm2 is very overprize tbh. i think can get like 200 or even lower if around here.

Mine is 185/70r14 for 1.3 engine, all tryes are much more expensive in sarawak here

Do u guys service aircon if still cold? Some ppl told me if don't service now until broken have to replace cooling coil etc will cost much more. Some ppl told me don't touch aircon if still cold, often after service aircon no problem will become problem. Mine already 100k 3+ years without service and don't even have cabin filter.
*
yup, what they tell u bout cooling coil is true, but it also depends on luck.
best if service the aircon, but cost quite high.

My 2005 Avanza 1.3 front wheel bearings lately gave some funny noise like a soft 'grrrrrrr' .
After replacing the 2 bearings , it is normal again .
This wheel bearing problem is like every 2-4 years .
Whereas my wira and Prado do not have such problem .
Any one here has similar problem at regular intervals ?
Do you think this is abnormal ?
TIA.
*
wheel bearing every 2 - 4 years? i think quite serious.
my 14 years only change wheel bearing once.

I'm thinking of buying a 2nd hand avanza year 2007. Here's the details:
1. reg 2007 1.3 manual but owner change engine to 1.5. To date with new engine 34kKM only.
2. Interior and exterior mint looking since last owner took detailing work for this car very seriously. Even the seat is looking brand new. The owner used seat cover since day 1 and only remove them for selling.
3. Open price rm17k.
4. Overall condition: buy and drive. no need repair.

Is this a good deal? Considering that I plan to use this car for 5 years before trading it with another one.

Thanks for your input, cheers!
*
you be sure to check whether the engine is 3sz-ve.
check the rear differential for condition or any leak, many avanza owner after warranty or who service outside dont know about the rear differential needed to change the fluid every 40k km or so.
otherwise, check the usual engine and transmission, the usual stuff.
And if you get it, change all your shock absorber(especially the rear shock, if the owner is still using stock rear shock, i can guarranted u the rear will be very bouncy.) and tyres, basically all wear and tear item.
And lastly , avanza is typical oldshool toyota car, which is quite bulletproof.

Thanks for the heads-up. Is it rude to ask the seller whether I can perform task as shown in the video: https://youtu.be/HqaL4L9yLV8 ?

Do you mind sharing the engine location number as per attached image? Or do I have to go under the engine bay?
*
depends on the owner if he or she allow to let you take it to the workshop to perform the check though.
my engine bay picture as attached, from the looks of it, it seems like it is 3sz-ve, the 1.3 had a different size and cover.

If I remember correctly from an article a few years back, the 1.5 avanza was supposed to run 500 rpm lower compared to a 1.3 auto for the same speed. For example if 1.5 is doing 4k RPM at 100km/h, then 1.3 auto will be doing 4.5k RPM at the same speed. However, in your case, you may have the power but then you might not be enjoying fuel savings as it is still tied to a 1.3 gearbox...worst might even increase your fuel consumption.

if you are not well versed with a car workings, suggest to bring along your own trusted mechanic.

Hope that helps.
*
best way for him to check is take the car to 100km/h, if the car rpm at 100km/h is slighlty over 3k rpm, then it's 1.5 and the gearbox are good.
if not then , need to investigate furthur.

Your's 2006 is about same age as my 1.3L Avanza ,but having good durability on wheel bearings .
Is your's a 1.5L or 1.3L ?
*
it's the 1.5G, but seriously though change wheel bearing so frequently is not quite normal tbh.

For interior touch, any recommendations for seat cover? Leather? semi leather? Alcantra 😂 ? Love to get one matching colour with attached pic. Target: premium feel, backside dont get fried during afternoon after parking under scorching sun.
*
i prefer the stock fabric tbh, aftermarket leather cover is not nice from what i seems tbh.
btw u pull the trigger already on the car?

Dear Avanza owners, I am currently thinking to get a new current Avanza.
What I'm looking for and hoping to get is a simple and durable car, that I can rely on for many years to come.

From what I have read so far, Avanza appears to be what I'm looking for, asides from some mentions on the absorber and air-cond ( can anyone confirm that is indeed the case for most Avanzas? ).

Before I make the purchase, could any current or past Avanza owners kindly share what are the common issues/problems/problematic parts of an Avanza that I need to be aware of?
Has the Avanza been really generally reliable and dependable for you?

Thanks for all the inputs in advance!
*
most of us here are on the first gen avanza tbh, personally i dont have experience either in driving or riding the current latest avanza, but hear say is the new avanza already made improvement in the ride quality, so the absorber issues should not be a big problem already.
However, i would recomend u to check out the aruz instead of the new avanza, as the aruz is cheaper and more tech inside the car.
The two car is pretty much the same car, the chassis is the same ladder frame, solid axle at the rear.
i would argue that the current avanza and the rush chassis still dated back to the first generation avanza chassis.

I think apart from fabric, others will definitely be too hot to sit on...unless he cools down the interior before going in. Others I think will panggang belakang. laugh.giflaugh.gif
*
yea from my experience, aftermarket leather cover is very freaking hot to sit after park under hot sun, but anyway congrats to him cool2.gif

This is the 2020 model avanza sold in Vietnam. If assessed, it is no different than a mobile corrugated iron.
*
what do you mean, maybe my english comprehension is not up to par, but if you're saying the new avanza that is released in Vietnam is not the car up to your standard, then why the hell in the first place you come in an "avanza owner" thread and just drop a comment like this?
i cannot understand.
