Merc monthly expenses around 2k around there

500k HDB around 2.5k ,

U can pay house installmeny minus off Ur CPF contribution ,

if total household income is 8k, household total CPF will be around 3k

Let's say 1.5k CPF for house installment, u need another 1k cash

So total expenses will be around 3k

Ur net salary left after CPF is 6.4k , minus off 3k, u left with 3.4k per month for othr expenses

My estimation

Household income 8k cpf 3k is included employer's contribution?

Hi guys, i am struggling between two options now.

I am drawing 8.5k MYR per month, work life balance, good boss, and friendly colleagues. (Got time to develop my apps and web-site, intent to start my own co. if there is a chance)

But recently, i got a SG job offering me 5.5k SGD, By the look of the director and the speed they process my job application. I think it will be a BIG NO work life balance + heavy workload.

I know the final decision is always lied on my hand but i would like to hear some opinions from the forumers here. Thank you.

*I am a IT programmer

5.5 years. single guy. this is my fren acc. he no longer active so kind of just borrowed from him to ask this. Hope u all dont mind about this.

i am holding a manager position here, they are offering me senior executive role.
*
I would say it's a no no. Too much pay cut dollar per dollar. If you managed to work out your own apps and business start up, you might earn well over that amount with work life balance.

RM8.5k you should be able to easily save RM4-5k isn't it?

Haha... Depends on how you look at it la.

Future progression and side income may not be as easy down here though.

Anyway my EP just went through this morning, and now I need to start thinking about living there in SG.

I'm currently working in Japan, so I cant go check and find place to live in person, so rather rushing to SG one week before I start working and choosing a bad place to stay, I was thinking of staying at an AirBNB for a month and move to a proper place later.

Will that cause a problem, opening a bank account or getting mobile line and all that?
*
Getting bank account going to be a problem I think. That one also need your EP done to be able to open for now. Not sure whether still can use Malaysia IC open or not. Last time I opened using Malaysia IC.

I'm not sure whether registering your address for your EP will got problem or not coz it's not permanent address.

Mobile you can temporary just use prepaid only need Passport. After that when want sign up you can choose new number or just port-in to postpaid.

Btw Airbnb still not officially legal here especially if you take those HDB flats. Be aware. Just a heads up.

SG has tight policies over rental. Just revised the rental policy but also minimum 3 months rental. Not sure whether is it going to be a problem for you.

True... To buy the same thing in Malaysia vs Singapore is more than 3 times the effort.

Just bought a laptop for 2.4k which is like 1 month salary. Imagine if I work in Malaysia the same thing might costs me 3 months salary.

that is the good side about msia is the medicine that if u go gov hospital, u get free also, if not fork out like a few tens

but how many ppl u see in KL or some big cities, middle income that would be willing to wait in gov hospital for attendance

most will go private

the price u need to pay in sg is for HOUSING (CONDO, excl HDB bcuz it is affordable also thx to CPF), medicine and car (due to the fact that u have to scrap after 10years of use, but price wise, a camry in msia is more expensive that a camry in sg after COE)
*
For serious cases, actually most people will resort to public instead of private. Private in Malaysia cannot make it la... Not as funded as the public hospitals. Even SG also similar.

If you're referring to day to day illness then yea most will go private clinic. But from what I know in cities like Kuching and KL quite a lot is going to hospital to get treatment.

Few days ago, i received letter (NOA) from IRAS asking to pay income tax for year 2016.

However, i remember somewhere in Feb 2017 i got a letter from IRAS saying no need to pay or file anything.

Is it normal that somewhere mid of the year IRAS send us letter asking us to pay tax?

Do you guys by chance experience the same? Received letter from IRAS middle of the year asking to pay tax
*
Yes it's normal. To pay for the year before. So this year you're paying for 2016.

The letter in Feb is only stating that you're enrolled to NFS or no filing service which means your company auto help you file the tax d instead of submitting all your income etc on your own.

So... Bite the bullet and pay biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

Let's say for year 2016 I no need pay any tax since not over 183 days..
so next year tax the income for 2016 and 2017 will be combine for taxing or it will be separate?
*
If not over 183 days it will bring forward to the next year. As in 2018 you pay for 2016 & 2017. In case in 2016 you earn less than 20k then you don't even have to pay for 2016 just pay 2017.

I came in Sept 2014 worked for 4 months in 2014 low salary less than 20k. In 2016 I received tax bill only for 2015 and not paying for 2014. I didn't receive anything in 2015.

QUOTE(Riolis @ Jul 10 2017, 10:27 AM)
I just check the spreadsheet from IRAS site to guess my tax as resident. for annual income of 40k SGD the calculated value is like 412 SGD.

Is this number per month or total to be paid? because if total seems so little.
if per month means 412 SGD times 12?

non resident tax is like 1.5k so pain if per month.

Also can I ask what else will be deduct from your salary every month when you work there?
*
Per year la. So not really a lot la... Nothing is deducted unless your company deduct for no pay leave etc.

Only after you get PR then you need to deduct CPF. Else what you're offered is what you get.

The congestion was abnormally severe since around cny until the last few weeks for unknown reasons, i moved in around that time, the congestion seems to have returned to the normal state, i might move back after my lease ends
why would banks see it that way, the same law governs when firing anyone including work pass, the compensation etc, new law states that they have to inform mom before firing anyone including workpass holders.

personally i contemplate this purchase because i worry about struggling at work at any point of my career, i might quit/lose my job and not able to find one, i job-hop a lot, mostly due to various struggles, i take this risk very seriously
https://ctoscredit.com.my/car-loan-eligibility/
According to this, one is likely eligible for a 300k loan with a 8000 salary

since you said buy it i think i am going to take that risk, need to salvage any joy when young, i have 2 years left before turning 30, hopefully it boosts my chance of finding high quality partner
*
How much you expect to pay per month and how much savings you have right now? I think this 2 will decide whether you're comfortable at buying it. Let's say if you lose job, do you give up your room in SG? If you were to continue paying rent in SG while looking for a job and at the same time having to pay for the car. How long can your savings last?

If you're from JB, it may still make sense. I worked in SG for 8+ years but I'm from East Malaysia. Never even thought about buying a car knowing that I won't be touching it even once a month.

Other than that, I don't have so much desire for cars and other things. Prefer to keep cash haha.

I expect to pay Rm 1500 and 3000sgd leaves me 5000myr every month. I didn’t manage to save much all these years until recently, now only 20k myr

Make no sense to keep my room when I lose my job, speaking of losing job I’m getting scapegoated, that criminal deliberate pass a bad job to me and wash his hands clean, make me send out all the work and people thought I’m responsible for that plate of faeces and he’s a good guy covering for me, make me look bad and can’t defend myself, very despicable, this is why I worry, always kena sabo, I downgrade my position after many years of job hopping but still kena sabo no matter how low my position is, as long as the job is white collar sure got sabo one, i think I only feel safe when I get pr so I can deliver food in sg, sure no sabo

My family still think I’m crazy for considering this purchase, I have quite made up my mind to take this risk, I mean some people working as property agents bought Mercedes, more risky than me in my opinion
*
20k MYR, how about the upfront payment?

Just a piece of advice, you can consider to save up a bit more, say 50k or 70k MYR before making the move. That will give you enough time to rethink whether you really need it and give you enough buffer during any emergencies. I'm not sure how long have you worked in SG but 20k MYR and assuming you haven't buy any house/car, it is really not much, only slightly more than 2 months of your salary (6,000 Singapore Dollar equals 19,942.89 Malaysian Ringgit).

Won't comment on your work part.

Property agents who bought Merz may already have the full sum sitting in the bank to pay it off anytime but I don't know them so I can't comment much.

Do what you think is right, just make sure you don't regret your decision 3-5 months later. icon_rolleyes.gif

Not sure where to post this so figured this was the proper place to post it.

So just started working at SG a few weeks ago, and currently company is providing a work mobile with a plan (M1 with device), but only has 17GB(?) from what I can see in the M1 app, I can't access much unfortunately due to the M1 app requiring M1 ID to view any bills for the plans etc. And I use data for vids and stuff when I'm on the go so I've already used a good amount of the monthly quota quite fast..  whistling.gif

So I plan to purchase my own plan, what route is currently my best choice? (Lowest possible price with most amount of data, 4G/5G doesn't matter but if there's 5G support for the SIM I won't complain  rclxms.gif )
Singtel Hi! Prepaid SIM and Port out after to other carrier such as Heya, GIGA, or Maxx etc? Or just go straight to the subsidiaries carrier?
As the main plan is M1, so I'd like to preferably have another carrier other than M1/M1 subsidiaries to just make sure the coverage is half decent when M1 doesn't work as well.

Also my WP card will be arriving in 2 days so that's probably what I'll be using to get a new plan, either that or I use my passport for now.

Would appreciate any advice from fellow sifus.  rclxm9.gif

Prepaid can only port to same company Postpaid before porting out. FYI

For me it's like Singtel > M1 > Starhub but a lot of people rank Starhub better than M1

I was a long time M1 user then switch to Giga cannot take it then switch to MyRepublic using M1 network.

But before I port out from MyRepublic, there was a significant drop in service quality on MyRepublic with M1 4G I guess that was when MyRepublic decided to partner with Starhub for their 5G offering. Now stick with Vivifi on Singtel first after that only see how haha
