Tumpang question a bit.

Is it common for Platinum tier PSU to have coil whine?

I have one SF750 and one Fractal Ion2+ 860W, both also exhibit coil whine. Most of the time they will start buzzing after warm up and performing light tasks.

What caused the coil whine and any remedy? A bit pointless to choose silent components everywhere else and have the PSU buzzing away all day long. doh.gif
*
any PSU regardless of what tier will have a chance on getting coil whine. or simply put, any component with choke, inductor, capacitor etc. aka most PC components will have a chance and cannot escape said chance.

sometimes coil whine goes away on its own, but if it doesn't, it'll slowly get less noisier. my PSU whined a lot during the fist few days, then it got less noisier and the "mean time to whine" is sparse now.

Guys, does the MWE Bronze V2 is good enough? Or any recommendation around that price point? The MWE Bronze V2 is in mid tier, so i think should be good?

Thinking of retiring my Xeon Sandy Bridge with Ryzen 2600 + 16GB ddr4  (got it for cheap from friend). Currently using E3-1230, RX570 and PSU CM G550M. Aging pretty bad lol.

Lowspec gamer here. Not much gaming nowadays, mostly hangout on discord with friends. Might pair it with RX6600 in future.
*
there are 2 variants of MWE Bronze V2; full range input variant and 230V input only variant. full range variant ends with ACAAB while 230V only variant ends with ACABW
full ranged MWE Bronze V2 is tier B (mid range), while MWE Bronze V2 230V is tier C (low end).

many local sellers all selling the ACABW variant, don't get fooled into thinking the PSU is at tier B...super shady tactics by CM lol

Looking at SUPER FLOWER LEADEX VII XG GOLD ATX3.0 1300W...is it good?

Also looking at FSP Hydro Ti Pro 1000W but macam cannot find in Shopee hmm.gif

cuz it's a platinum PSU disguised as gold
if crmaris says it's good, then it's confirm good

Considering I’m unlikely to do something adventurous with OC, would you suggest that I better staying off K series and stick to B760? Coming more from the perspective that I might not even utilizing the feature but paying a premium for it
*
K series not exactly only about OC these days, basically just freedom for u to input custom parameters to drive the CPU however u want.
perhaps u may undervolt it instead, or simply run it at stock.
undervolting allows slightly lower power draw and heat allowing some cores to boost longer, hence translates to slightly better performance.
u may search and read up AC/DC loadline undervolt if u want to understand more about it, else just stock all the way.

Hello sifus,

Looking for replace my old desktop with a fresh new built. Below is what im looking for. Hope someone can help.

[B][Budget] - RM 15k to RM 18k

[Purpose] - Work / Gaming (AAA Games)

[Hardwares that will be re-use] - None

[Monitor resolution] - 4k monitor with (Prefer ASUS PG32UCDM, if anyone knows release date)

[Games & softwares that use frequently] -  MS Office, Adobe, Photoshop, Premiere, COD Warzone

[Personal preferences] - Prefer ASUS products, looks like visually. Prefer black colors.

[Location] - Cyberjaya
*
if flexible, consider corsair (if you're looking for bling bling) mix with ASUS (e.g. mobo & GPU) instead of all ASUS. ASUS tax is real for some of the smaller parts e.g. PSUs and AIOs.
ASUS PG32UCDM baru released in US and EU at $1299, most likely in a few months will come to MY. knowing ASUS, most likely priced at 7k

how large are ur models? are they gonna utilize >24GB of VRAM?
if ur looking for LLMs utilizing past 24GB VRAM I only suggest 2x 3090 (with NVLink) so that you get a total memory pool of 48GB VRAM, or a single A6000 (ampere) with 48GB with dedicated ECC.

else single 4090 will do

edit: not sure if 2x 4090 can be assumed as 48GB VRAM without NVLink, if PyTorch's parallelization allows splitting its inference tasks as two.

Techyescity predicted Blackwell flagship will go up in pricing further than 4090 all the way up to USD $1800 just coz of AI, so this could mean the entire stack of 5000series might bump up in pricing.

can't care much about prediction like this when he incorrectly listed 4090 launch price to be $1499 when it was $1599
anyway, broken clock is right twice a day + he could say $0 - $2000 and still be correct.

I think those are special type of workstation and usually don't need a GPU?
If there is any work that need a 3090 and 128GB RAM please enlighten me..  biggrin.gif
*
u underestimate the need of RAM in various professional apps... icon_idea.gif

training LLMs locally, not only use VRAM but also eat RAM like a beast
4K video encoding, want instant playback? add RAM. fast encoding? NVENC
anything data related, like data analytics (e.g. Power BI), CFD apps (e.g. Ansys, Autodesk CFD, Solidworks)
3D rendering, depending on what ur working on can easily exceed multiple tens of GBs, especially VFX and anims

even hobby render 32GB also not enough on my end, after upgrade to 64GB the software baru happy

when talking about hobbies, quite many things also 32GB not enough...
hosting modded minecraft server - easy makan RAM
honestly any self-hosting game server related stuffs, 4 players+, 64GB RAM and above give u room to breathe
multiple VMs - easy makan RAM depending on allocation
main cities skylines, suka hati dl mods from steam workshop, bukak cities skylines complain game running at 5fps even though using RTX 6090 - turns out moar RAM needed (32GB also not enough)

Guys, I bought a new rig (not yet arrived) for gaming
CPU: Ryzen 7 7800X3D
GPU: MSI RTX 4080 Super
Cooler: ID-Cooling Space SL360
Mobo: MSI B650M Gaming Plus WiFi
RAM: G.Skill Trident RGB 2x16GB 6,000Mhz CL30
SSD: Samsung 990 Pro 2TB
PSU: Corsair RM850E
Case: Antec C5

I'm now wondering if I should increase the RAM to 64GB since MSFS has the "ideal" spec is 64GB RAM and maybe future games would ideally have more than 32GB.
*
32GB is actually enough given that you don't do non-gaming stuffs which requires more than that

when you reach to a point where 32GB is really not enough, you can always sell off your 32GB sticks at more than half to 3 quarter the price and buy a 2 x 32GB sticks (instead of 4 x 16). G.Skill RAM price doesn't drop fast due to lifetime warranty, and 6000MHz CL30 is a damn good RAM with low latency to begin with.

Lets say I can wait till Feb, you guys think by that time LGA 1851 can mature to be even considered as a viable option?

no
avoid meteor lake, my assumption is that even if microsoft manages to fix some of the scheduling issues in 24h2, meteor lake still has many other problems to deal with and is typically slower than 13900K, 14900K, top of the line Zen 4 and 5s, and not as efficient as Zen 4 and 5. productivity wise, it won't be better without SMT even if it has amped up efficient cores.

I will be a bit contrarian here, AMD is super fine, sometimes better. can use 24/7 without problem with degradation. at least a few of my friends who are using Zen 4 CPUs + AM5 mobo have pleasant experience with them (especially the X3D CPUs). last time used to have USB drop off issues though.

u have 2 choices:
- go for AMD, get a good AM5 mobo, plan for longevity with presumably future AMD CPUs for u to choose from. more expensive (combining mobo + CPU), and I recommend 9900X instead of 9700X to match perf (all within 2-3% for applications and gaming). cheaper overall in the future as long as u stick to ur upgrade plan without needing to replace mobo, and if AMD not ditching AM5 anytime soon. remember to update bios
- go for intel, get a good LGA 1700 mobo, dead end as it ends on 14th gen. cheaper than AMD, 14700K recommended. want to change CPU next time = change mobo, hence may be more expensive in the future. remember to update bios

Threadripper Pro is just Threadripper with enterprise management features. It is still for workstation on user desk, but in corporate who wants to have those features. brows.gif One such case use would be engineer that needs intensive computing power within reach. Too bad there is no other offering from Intel alternative now for this market.

https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/design-visuali...tations/latest/
The reason with this is Intel can roll out new microcode via Windows Update whenever needed. For novice users going to AMD, the bios will be mature in 3 months or so after new platform launch, and that is the good time to use that as baseline. (and enjoy price drop) wink.gif
*
even with bios update being released actively, I still would reco AMD more than I reco Intel now.
used to have 3900X. great chip, excellent mem controller which ran 4x8GB 3600CL16 at tight timings. only issue was the mobo with constant USB drop off issue. otherwise it performed exceptionally. during Zen 2 time, core freq was low though.
had a choice between 7950X3D and 13900K last year but bit the bullet to try out Intel this time + considerably cheaper than 7950X3D combining with X670E mobo (and size concerns, most X670E mobos are E-ATX)
if I were to not AC/DC undervolt my 13900K during day 1, it would've been degraded like many other 13900K/14900K chips.

They support their products.  Even if the part has no warranty. My multiple K70 v1 keycaps broke after 2 months. They said no warranty for keycaps. I had to "convince" them. They sent it to me for free.

Then a good episode. Asking corsair on how to buy LGA1700 mount for my H150i. They asked for my serial number and address. Shipped to me without even asking for payment. I've double checked. Its free.
*
when my H115i blue LED failed a few years ago corsair printed the shipping label for free intl shipping
whereas samsung wanted me to get my own label and I paid more than 100USD for the shipping

*
5070Ti for ur 3D productivity, 7800X3D as a supplement for ur pipeline (processing data etc.). when rendering u use ur GPU and not CPU (don't do both if chosen renderer allows that setting, choose only GPU. don't let CPU bottleneck ur render). if able to get 9800X3D even better.
