In this case, RX6600 is a PCIe X8 card, right? is it fine to pair with 5600G?
*
Yeah nope dont get that. Ady bad enuff ur CPU is limited to PCIE Gen3 bandwidth, then ur gonna cripple it further to x8 lanes. Effectively maxed at 8GB/s. Even if its fine for ur CPU currently it will bottleneck any future upgrades.

RM 10k inc monitor is quite tough as it depends how much ur spending for that monitor will dictate whatever is left for your system. Rule of thumb is that for 4k 120-144Hz would ady eat up RM 9-10k just the system alone.

I would suggest you shop for the preferred monitor first then see how much is left for the sifus here to reco a build cuz even 4k monitor (& TV as monitor) got so many price range choices like; 32"? 36"? 49"? 60-75Hz? 120Hz? 144Hz? 200+Hz? Need Gsync? Need Ultrawide? Need KVM? Curve or Flat? True HDR?

You need to make sure you know what monitor you want cuz at the extreme end of scale some monitors can ady cost RM 10k itself!

You can use these as a starter guide to better understand monitor selection

Woah ya ka I got no concept cause simply googling 4k monitor it's returning like around RM1.5k.

Thanks for the links.
*
At 4k you will want exact expectations cuz then its what the system will able to drive that monitor. Also whether okay with VA? Or IPS? Or OLED? Or miniLED?
Im no monitor expert so you can ask more from this subforum https://forum.lowyat.net/MonitorDiscussions

Imho 28" is pretty small for 4k resolution but again its to the OP decide his comfort level.

Except for that DRAMless SSD this is a well balanced spec tho. thumbsup.gif

DRAM-less SSD isn't a monster when it comes with HMB.
*
As a OS boot drive, my advice better not. Constant drive swaps will prematurely wear out the NAND cycles. HMB only useful to mitigate the other DRAMless drawbacks (long/big writes).

oh? The 6600XT isn't the same as 6600? thought you are suggesting me to keep the CPU and upgrade to 6600XT for now.
*
Quite similar XT just faster clocked. Yeah my mistake actually when I recheck the 6600/XT both are x8 so either is poor choice. Better to go with 6700XT /6750XT as these are at least x16.

That happens when you have insufficient amount of RAM and with 32GB RAM, what use case you think will cause the issue?

HMB simply lets the SSD to borrow the system memory as it's DRAM. It does have a memory portion to work with during the operation, except with some data round-trips.  The general issue with DRAM-less SSDs are those usually paired with cheaper NANDs / less-tuned write/load-balancing algorithms / weaker controller. Not the case for SN570/SN580.

https://documents.westerndigital.com/conten...70-nvme-ssd.pdf
https://documents.westerndigital.com/conten...50-nvme-ssd.pdf

Both are rated same. WD Green SN350? That is indeed something to avoid.

If you think otherwise, please share your findings.
*
Too many anecdotes in the internet you can search yourself. There are reasons why sifus here reco only SSDs with DRAM but if you think otherwise its up to you.

I had SSD fail on me but for other reasons tho.

Hello, thank you all for the recommendations and feedback. I kinda have a list of parts to get for the PC, what do you all think about it?

Ryzen 5 5600
MSI B550M Pro-VDF Wifi
Asrock RX 6600 Challenger D White
ADATA XPG Spectrix D35G 8GB DDR4 3200 MHz x2 (want to get from the same shop, else would have gotten the Colorful Guardian)
KC3000 1TB
FSP HV Pro 650W
Tecware Forge M Omni Snow White
*
Its a decent system for the money if your getting someone to build & setup for you. If your doing it yourself, might run into Ryzen quirks. YMMV

Is this something that the newer Ryzen parts have? I built a Ryzen set up like 5-6 years back and it was quite smooth.. not sure if I'm just lucky though haha
*
Not sure as I dont have AMD myself but heard a lot of issues from forumers here and seeing the umpteen number of Agesa Bios updates is just weird.

Then again I also saw a lot of Western PCers using Ryzens, so as I said YMMV. So to err with caution I usually suggest new builders to stay away from AMD stuff unless got some troubleshooting knowledge. If you done this before, then going Ryzen isnt too bad.

Newer 7000 Ryzens have different issues but no less frequent (amongst others; still ongoing high idle power usage which 3 Agesa updates said to fix but Toms disputes that).

Having built quite an amount of AM4 machines, as long as you don't push the out-of-spec stuffs to the limit (i.e. running XMP, undervolting), you don't really run into much troubles. biggrin.gif
Comparing the Blue with those QLC or part-swapping models, it is surprisingly acceptable to pay a little extra for transparency. The performance is top among DRAM-less segment as well. laugh.gif

Alrighty, I promised you links and here it is same results spanning from consumer, enterprise, the OEM themselves, even software companies

From enterprise storage forum
https://www.enterprisestorageforum.com/hard...0web%20browsing.
"Best for Longevity: DRAM SSDs
SSDs with DRAM use wear-leveling—a process programmed into flash devices that maximizes efficient usage of the memory blocks—that prolongs the life of the device by minimizing wear and tear from constant usage by applying the Program and Erase (P/E) cycles evenly across all blocks. (A typical block can withstand about 100,000 P/E cycles.) Without wear-leveling, DRAM-less SSDs risk overusing blocks that can shorten the lifespan of the drive."

https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapc/comments/..._ssd_with_dram/
"For a boot drive I wouldn't do without it. As the dram cache takes the brunt of the writes. Ok. So windows is constantly doing things to your storage, not all of which are particularly longlasting. With a dram cache, many of those things happen there, to a piece of hardware designed to have things happen to it quickly many many times. Without that cache, those things get spread randomly across your ssd, and the controller has to hunt for the results in more places, and the other parts of your SSD aren't meant to be written to as many times as the dram cache is. Which wears the drive out faster."

https://insights.samsung.com/2021/06/25/dra...rent-after-all/
"The life span
Most SSD life spans are based on the number of times a memory cell is written over. Traditionally, there’s a significant difference in life span between DRAM-less SSDs and SSDs with DRAM because when the CPU constantly has to go back to the NAND flash memory, it’s putting wear onto the drive in the form of additional data that’s written, rewritten and accessed over and over. This can decrease the life of the drive, and it’s also why many manufacturers offer only a three-year warranty on DRAM-less SSDs, as opposed to the standard five-year warranty that comes with SSDs featuring DRAM."

https://www.partitionwizard.com/clone-disk/...m-less-ssd.html
"DRAM SSD vs DRAM-less SSD: Lifespan
When you observe your DRAM or DRAM-less SSD, you may find that there’s a warranty on it. Most DRAM-less SSDs offer a 3-year warranty, while DRAM SSDs from reputed brands provide up to a 5-year warranty. DRAM-less drives store the data map directly to the NAND flash, causing more wear and tear on memory cells. This significantly reduces the lifespan of the SSD.
DRAM SSDs use wear-leveling that prolongs the lifespan of the hard disk by minimizing wear and tear from constant usage by applying the Program and Erase (P/E) cycles evenly across all blocks."

Now show me your source and dont run away ya biggrin.gif

Nope. Phased out models but still overprice as they not reduce to match cheaper Gen3 SSDs. Go for alternatives as Phison stuff are overpriced.

KLEV CRAS C930 Gen4 1TB still got RM 399

You missed the point.
You articles only talk about scenario where the SSD is indeed without DRAM to work with. HMB allows the SSD to have DRAM to work with, except they are borrowed from your CPU.
*
That means you dont have a point then. And you dont understand what SSD DRAM does. Its not just the mapping table that HMB do. Go read up some more.

There's a lot of nvme m.2 ssd gen3 / gen4

Yes your the OG proponent of DRAMless SSD here. And many sifus have educated you on the cons of using such for OS boot drive. Looks like you got an equally clueless friend.

If want to give reco & advice, do it responsibly not give crap specs.

Hello All,

My cpu and mobo just got fried, not sure why :'l. 5900x and X570 Aurous Master. Sadge. Will try to RMA the cpu but in the meantime looking for replacement.

Current setup that will be reused :

32GB DDR4 RAM
RTX 2070
650W EVGA Supernova Gold+
360mm AIO
SSDs and all peripherals.

I'm also looking to upgrade my gpu to handle some light 4K gaming on my 4K TV and sell the 2070 and upgrade the gpu too.

Is RM6-7k for mobo, cpu, gpu and psu reasonable? Is it worth to ditch my ddr4 Rams and switch to am5?

*edit- forgot to add purpose*
Games like Cyberpunk 2077, Assasins Creed franchise, other AAA single player games, Path of Exile, CS2, Valorant etc2..
Would also like to try to have a stream capable setup if possible.
Thank you.
*
If change CPU & mobo you got 2 main choices; stick with AMD AM4 or go Intel DDR4

If you can RMA the CPU (& mobo), I suggest stick to AMD. Get a temp that you can resell/reuse later. Perhaps R 5600 + MSI B550-VDH mobo

If want all new AM4, 5800X3D + MSI X570 mobo

If sien of AMD then why not switchover to Intel? 14700K + MSI PRO Z790-P DDR4

Full switchover to DDR5 4K gaming system? Need about 8-9k at least since just about everything need to change.

To handle 4K gaming, need at least 4070TI / 7800XT (for 60FPS) to 4080 / 7900XT (100FPS above) + at least Atier 850W PSU

Thanks all for comments. Relooked my draft and currently have this in mind. (changes in bold)

AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D Processor
GIGABYTE B650 AORUS Elite AX Motherboard
DeepCool AK620 Air Cooler
CORSAIR VENGEANCE DDR5 RAM 32GB 6000MHz
Sapphire Nitro + AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT 16GB
Kingston KC3000 PCIe 4.0 M.2 2280 NVME SSD 2TB
Cooler Master MWE GOLD 750W V2
LianLi 216
Total: ~8.2k

How is this looking?
*
Ryzen 7000 likes to boost until 95C and particularly X3D are hot chips. Suggest up cooling to Deepcool Assassin 3/4 or Thermalright FC/FS140

And be warned of Giga mobo backdoor bios. For just a lil bit more money do consider plenty of alternatives
Asrock
B650 https://www.lazada.com.my/products/asrock-b...3317888996.html
B650E https://www.lazada.com.my/products/asrock-b...3399347679.html

Asus B650 https://www.lazada.com.my/products/asus-tuf...3261474056.html

Can even get MSI X670 https://www.lazada.com.my/products/msi-pro-...3209533654.html

Also suggest you topup RM 60 and up PSU to 850W MWE GOLD if you can spare the budget as that is a Btier unit. While 750W just ngam2 sufficient for 7800XT but consider it has not much power headroom for future more power hungry GPU upgrades.

If I had known I would had get it. Cleaner look and good cooling

🤤

But some reviewers claimed got weird noise issue at certain frequency/fan speeds due to its shroud housing & unconventional airflow pull design. Going assassin 3 you dont lack cooling performance actually.
