Thanks for the reply!
Wanted to ask if got anyone that can recommend for helping to build PC?
Also wanna ask, roughly how long would this pc build be able to last?
*
I'll be free on Sunday onwards. I can pay you a visit and help for KL area. Just get the parts ready.

Most likely you'll replace your CPU to 5700X3D in the future. As long as there is no new consoles, 5600 should last a few years. 5% luck still applies to any electronic goods.

hello sifus, need some opinions here, my current rig is am4 with r5 3600 & 1070ti, and the psu recently got smoked (just rma-ed before cny) when i was playing wolong

with that said, i am planning to upgrade to 5700x3d, 32g ddr4, and 4070tis / 5070ti / 5080 depending on prices since my budget is flexible after getting my psu rma back and i dont really need all the latest coolest stuff

want to know if its wise with this upgrade or should move to am5 notworthy.gif

[Hardwares that will be re-use] am4 with r5 3600 and 1070ti (refer to sig)

[Monitor resolution] 2560*1080 (gaming main) + 3 1920*1080 (will be moving to 2 7,680*2,160)

[Games & softwares that use frequently] Steam, Rancher, Unity, WSL

[Personal preferences] white color

[Location] workplace nearby lowyat

Jumping into 8k? Prepare to sell your body parts. That will need RTX 5090 and still not enough performance. Even 4k is just enough for 5090.

Ryzen 7 5700X3D
Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE
RTX 4070 Ti Super 16GB or RTX 4080 (or RTX 5080 if price is reasonable).
FSP Hydro Pro 1000W (optional)

As the release of 5070ti is sometime around this month, I've made some change of mind upgrading from 1080p to 1440p from my previous plan.
Heard Intel kinda fixed the problems of their Core Ultras lineup with firmware and windows updates, and it somewhat need to have high speed CUDIMM to make it work best.

Right now, I am still undecided on which camp to go this this to replace my aging 6700k, might need some nudge from the sifus here.

[Budget] Under 10k for Rig only, going to need some good 27inch monitor recc too

[Purpose] Productivity mix with slight gaming (Monhun Wilds)

[Hardwares that will be re-use] 1080p monitor

[Monitor resolution] 1440p

[Games & softwares that use frequently] Monster Hunter Wilds, Lightroom, Photoshop, Large PDF Editing (Blueprint), Handbrake, Multiple RDP.

[Personal preferences] Will pair 1440p as main monitor and existing 1080p as side monitor.

All price is taken from Viewnet pricelist except for some parts that are not listed like CUDIMM RAM and Intel B860 board

Any comments on the builds to make it suits my usage better?

Thanks in advance for the suggestion.

Intel blows Ryzen away on productivity. Especially Adobe. Go for 14900K build with lian li galahad ii 360 perfomance and Lian Li Lancool III case.

TristanX Is it worth spending extra for a RTX4070Ti Super over the 4070 Super?  Seeing that you get 15% percent performance boost and extra 4GB VRAM hmm.gif

I'm currently consider an overhaul of my system  icon_idea.gif
*
Yes. Games becoming more hungry with the VRAM. Can't do much about bad developers relying on hardware carrying them.

Bad developers is a myth though - no game developer is going to intentionally make games run worse anyway icon_idea.gif
Poor PC ports have always been the part and parcel of PC gaming for decades, it's just that the rise of social media and the relatively secrecy of the industry itself often amplifies this narrative quite intensely icon_idea.gif

Looks like I might want to buy one right now before stock dries up (the 50 series is looking like a dumpster fire right now) icon_idea.gif

When you have developers still making games that doesn't require super high end and still look as good or better than some others. Yes, they are bad.

Yo, havent been on lowyat for some time, last time I was here was when I built my first PC a Ryzen 5 1600x + RX 580. Im looking for suggestions on a gaming rig, I have been eyeing the Ryzen 5 7500f (don't need apu, if anything happens I can use my lil brother's GPU), RX 7800 XT 16 GB, MSI B650M Gaming Plus,1st player 750w full modular, 32gb XPG DDR5 6000Mhz, Montech XR case, any PCIE 4 SSD. Everything is around rm4.5k++(based on shoppee/aliexpress). I want to game at 1440p, optimised/high settings. Monitor price doesn't matter atm, just focusing on the PC first. Should I also consider AM4? the ryzen 7 5700x3d doesn't sound too bad, +cheaper mobo and ram could save a lot.

[B]
RM3.5K-4.5K

[Purpose]
Gaming + Editing

[Hardwares that will be re-use]
None

[Monitor resolution]
1440p

[Games & softwares that use frequently]
Marvel Rivals, Adobe Illustrator, Capcut Pro, Insta360, Most AAA games

[Personal preferences]
RGB is a necessity, black or white don't matter. AIO if possible

[Location]
Sabah

Tight squeeze budget for 1440p.... Buy the graphic card first. Lazada sale ending on 4th. Have to cut corners on some parts...

Ryzen 5 7500F - 609
MSI B650M Gaming Plus Wifi - 759
Kingston HyperX Fury Beast 8GB DDR5-5200 X2 - 258
Powercolor RX 7800 XT 16GB Fighter - 2030 (Lazada sale)
Kingston KC3000 1TB - 349
MSI A750BN - 319 (Shopee)
Montech Air 1000 case - 225 (Shopee)

RM4549 total (Mostly Viewnet prices)

Yes, 5700X3D will save you mobo and RAM cost. Need to know your mobo brand and model though. Need to check if the VRM is up for it. Get Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE cooler and it will get the job done.

5700X3D could last for some time. Can't specify due to developers going crazy with the system requirements and being lazy optimizing their games.

If you can squeeze some more budget, go for 32GB (16GB X2). You can find Acer Predator Pallas II 32GB DDR5-6000 CL30 kit at RM459 from shopee. 16GB will not last long. Its 2025 already.

? Any examples?  Note that two opposing things can be true at the same time icon_idea.gif
You also forgot that high/ultra settings are largely overkill and are intended for future hardware icon_idea.gif
People here has been forgetting that poor PC gaming performance has always been an issue, and developers always have an incentive to push graphics and performance to the limits icon_idea.gif
...and I think a lot of people are vastly underestimating the work most game devs do so people really need to stop blaming developers/publishers for 'poor' optimization, it's not a new phenomenon and stop pushing the whole poor optimization/graphics thing as a recent issue icon_idea.gif
*
Still got a few old school. ID Software is one of them.

Talk is easy. When they don't even build their own engine for games. That is already one example. You can tell when the game launched with many bugs when they just "make it compatible", copy and paste assets. Amount of work? Nope. It is not an excuse pushing more than 8GB when majority still hold those cards as well. Definitely copy paste from PS5.

Hi, WTA on behalf of my cousin for RTX 5080 rig at around 10k budget PC only without monitor, which current AMD gen is best for gaming?

Is 1000W PSU enough? can't find ATX 3.1 1000W on idealtech.

Prefer idealtech builder as want ready prebuilt but can consider others.
Any problems with this build? where can I save more? is going down to 7800x3d and a cheaper motherboard still good enough for RTX 5080? for 1440p.
*
Buy everything from same shop won't get you all good parts. You want to be picky yet only RM10k budget. Gigabyte RTX 4080 Super Windforce at RM4499 from Viewnet.

QUOTE(GameFr3ak @ Feb 10 2025, 10:15 PM)
Hi all, my friend upgraded his work rig not too long ago and he started experiencing some form of slowness when working with Photoshop / Illustrator. He doesn't game at all and thus did not include a dedicated GPU in his rig.

CPU: INTEL CORE I5 13600K (FOC Contact Frame) RM1499
COOLER: CRYORIG H5 Ultimate RM199
MOBO: GIGABYTE Z790 UD AX RM1265
RAM: KINGSTON FURY Beast RGB 2X16GB 5200MHz DDR5 CL40 KF552C40BBAK2-32 RM899
PSU: ANTEC CSK650 GB RM349
CASE: ANTEC NX410 BLACK RM249
SSD: Kingston NV2 PCIE 4.0 NVME SSD SNV2S 500GB RM219
HDD: WD 2TB Caviar Blue RM269
HDD: WD 1TB Caviar Blue RM189

He's considering getting a GPU if it's a solution better responsiveness while working with Photoshop/illustrator. To give more context, his projects will often have heavy layers and effects paired with high resolution photos. When he's trying to save his project, the pop up window will take 1-2 secs to appear. Seems sluggish in general when using different tools.

user posted image

This was his system load, I don't think he's bottlenecked by RAM/CPU since it's not fully utilized. His drives are not close to 90% utilization as well. One thing to note is that he utilizes Google Drive.

Can someone shed some light on what's causing this sluggish performance? Thanks.
*
Having No Value 2 SSD is a problem. It is DRAMless crap.

Your friend got slaughtered with the RAM price. RM899 for 32GB 5200 CL40 is a crime. You can get Acer Predator Pallas II 32GB DDR5-6000 CL30 at RM459 from Shopee.

All the K CPUs needs better than that overpriced Cryorig H5 Ultimate cooler as well. Go for at least 280mm AIO or Thermalright Frost Commander 140 (if you die die also want air cooler).

This is why you double check before you blindly buy anything.

Hard budget to hit when even when monitor is not included. GPU makers offering 8GB crap for 2025. Wait 3-4 days for Lazada mid month sale. Maybe you can snag a 7800 XT 16GB for RM2-2.1k first which will be very good price/performance.

As for the rest....
