Hi everyone,

Newbie (old dog here)

Just venture to PC gaming after absent for 5 years. Now wanna build a gaming rig. Mainly want great graphics and last few more years. Not like after 2 years, kaput.

Budget: RM5k-RM5.5k
Purpose: to play games, train to play FPS after years of left this genre.
Hardware: feel free to recommend. But looking at GTX 1070
Monitor haven't bought yet. But will be 1080p.
Love to play games like Evil Within, Final Fantasy, Star Wars Battlefront 2
Better if got transparent rig.
Location: Kepong, KL

Thank you very much for quick response bro. Sorry. RM5k to RM5.5k is for rig only. Monitor and sound system is RM1,800

But why you not recommend intel? I5 7400 overclock, good?

In order to have the CPU overclockable on Intel platform, you must have the K-series CPU (either i5-7600K or i7-7700K) and the motherboard with the high-end Z170 or Z270 chipset. Furthermore, both Core i5 and Core i7 has the core counts of 4.

AMD platform, on the other hand, has all the AMD Ryzen CPUs being overclockable, as long as you have the motherboard with either the B350 chipset or X370 chipset. Regular AMD Ryzen CPUs are available in quad-core, hex-core and octa-core configurations. (The AMD Ryzen 5 1600 CPU is a hex-core, 12-thread CPU.)

I'll follow your recommendations. nod.gif Do C-Zone offer building rigs? Any shop to recommend, other than Idealtech?

Yes. I usually buy my stuffs from C-Zone. You can add another 8GB RAM with the extra budget.

Would you recommend increase to 1600X, add RAM 8 GB and reduced to GTX1060?

Nope. Its not worth it. If you want better CPU, go for Ryzen 7 1700 instead. Yeah, adding 8GB will be better. Its up to you. GTX 1060 6GB may not be enough to max out 1080p on a few games.

Yeah, I kinda agree what Tristan X said.

There is couples of reasons why you should not going to get the X variant of the CPU:
-The X variants of the Ryzen CPUs doesn't comes with the CPU cooler, which means you have to purchase the separate one.
-The X variants are the CPUs that has extended XFR automated overclocking support, which is, as most people know, is a very useless feature as all Ryzen CPUs are overclockable. (only if you know how.)
-The Ryzen 5 1600X is a hex-core, 12-thread CPU just like the 1600 was, but with higher clock speed and no stock CPU cooler. That's why TristanX recommended the octa-core, 16-thread Ryzen 7 1700 CPU for you.

I'm now at Low Yat. Almost faint because many recommend ASUS GTX1070 Dual. But some say Dual is the lowest spec in 1070. So Zotac mini lower or Asus Duo lower in performance?

FSP Hexa+ or Corsair VS 450W will do the job. Budget not high enough for mid grade or better.
