HK and Taiwan was never independent, HK was leased from china for 99 years, and after the lease completion in 1997 is returned to china.

Taiwan and China is still in a state of war. China is claiming Taiwan as rebel state.

Why they give up SG ? The answeres were already given above. LKY wants Malaysia for Malaysians, equal rights for all. Malaysia cant accept that as Malays has special rights.
If you want to join a club and the club for unfair rules, you still want to join meh ?

I think I read somewhere it was due to racial conflict & also Jews influences in Sg.. Not really sure.
