I still remember a hongki friend ask me a question bout singapore when we discussed about hk independence. How exactly did singapore manage to exit malaysia in 1965? I couldn't answer and to be frank, I don't exactly have any idea regarding the matter.

Singapore was initially belonged to Johor Kingdom. Thomas Stamford Raffles arrived in 1819 and signed a treaty with Sultan Hussein Shah of Johor, on behalf of the British East India Company, to develop the southern part of Singapore as a British trading post. In 1824 the entire island, as well as the Temenggong, became a British possession after a further treaty with the Sultan.

As a result of the 1962 Merger Referendum, on 16 September 1963 Singapore joined with the Federation of Malaya. Which means british has no control over singapore anymore. And by right, singapore should return to Johor. How on earth did singapore manage to exit and become independent state?

If this is possible, then why hk, macau and taiwan arent allow to do so?

read back your sejarah book,it was mentioned why they were kicked out since LKY really pushing for malaysian malaysia policy which contradict to the constitution
*
yes, i know what u say. i mean why did they let LKY to govern singapore in the first place? sg belongs to johor sultanate right? if like u say, then hk oso can do the same thing by pushing some contradicting theory to withdraw from china. they are the same theory.

It is because Singapore is  considered a separate country when the land is given to the British.

HK and Taiwan was never independent, HK  was leased from china for 99 years, and after the lease completion in 1997 is returned to china.

Taiwan and China is still in a state of war. China is claiming Taiwan as rebel state.

Go learn more history lessons.

sg also leased to british but didnt state how long, and the treaty says for as long as british wants

Why they give up SG ? The answeres were already given above. LKY wants Malaysia for Malaysians, equal rights for all. Malaysia cant accept that as Malays has special rights.
If you want to join a club and the club for unfair rules, you still want to join meh ?

So for two years they debated and disccused and an impasse happened and thus SG came out of Malaysia.

hades, try to understand my ques. i know why sg kena kicked, but what i don understand is how come malaya let singapore to be governed by lky in the first place instead of taking back singapore just like what china is doing now.

what im saying is, why malaya give lky a chance to take over sg which was originally belong to malaya?

LKY was the leader of his political leader already active in Singapore under British rule. So when the British pulled out, LKY felt his country is too small and thus figured join with Malaysia to be come stronger. But after 2 years, cant join, leave loh.

British ruled both countries differently and governed them independantly however under one British rule.

Next question, why Chin Peng become communist ? Why not liberal or democrat or MCA ?
*
but both countries (sg n malaya) oredi independent. then, how is it related to british again? malaya can self take back sg right?

and who is chin peng?

In 1959 Britain granted Singapore a large degree of self-rule. Mr Lee, leader of the People’s Action Party, became prime minister after a landslide election victory.

Because at that time the country isn't stable
*British wanna withdraw fast fast
*indo and pinoy hates My. Even send invasion team
*communist terrorist is rampant in rural
*socialist communist party is stronk in urban areas
*pendatang outnumbered the bumi at this time.
*racial tension so high every few years fight broke out leaving pipu dead.

So Tunku unilaterally decided for a two state solution (kinda like Israel) one homeland for the Bumi another for Democrats capitalist overseas chinis (since living in communist china isn't really an option)
This is why HK will not gain self determination. Simply becoz china isn't in any kind of shit. Even if they rolls in tanks no one in the world will backed hongkis at all. Last time they invade Tibet leaving almost a million dead (according to dalai Lama) no one does shit and pretend not seeing anything.

Also what will hongkis eat?  In SG case. Indon so please that My-Sg separate that they allow indon to be sinki hinterland. Where indon put their money, get treatment, their transhipment Centre as well as Changi being indon gateways to the world (because indon port, airport all sucks)

yes, thanks so much for u sincere reply. true. im convinced with ur answer and i much appreciate it.

actually, the memoirs oso say that, cause when singapore under british rule, it is a very important port and colony for the british. The british has many important trades to do at sg port. a lot of sgreans (particularly chinese) merchants decided to reside in singapore due to the chaos back in mainland china. When singapore join malaya, malaya was worried that these rich merchants might spead the influence through the whole malaya. at that time in the beginning of unification, malaya already had a lot of problem and issues. therefore, in order to stop 'singapore' from controlling malaya in future, malaya had no choice but to let singapore go. which at the same time, singapore oso wanna quit. its like a win win situation. and hence sg become an independent sovereign state.

hk one i nothing to add, cause oso not so sure
