Thanks for input.

It's really hard to say why people keep posting as such. Do they...

1. Don't trust 1st page
2. Think 1st page is obsolete
3. Didn't read 1st page
4. Want easy answer
5. ...

As TS, I can only keep 1st page updated and relevant...I don't know what they think...I can't control one liner "recommendation please" posts...

I doubt whatever title I use will be any more effective... I thought for weeks what title to use... laugh.gif

If folks choose to respond to these questions...just keep cool... ✌
*
i think whatever the title is, there will always be such a one liner.

not only this box thread but many others too, e.g. tv's - everytime some wants to buy a new tv, a new thread pops up.
there must be a hundred "what tv to buy" threads in this section in the last 2 years.
until nobody wants to respond or respond with a one liner.

so, nothing needs to be done.

it is human nature to try do least work for highest efficiency. laugh.gif

Sorry for late reply. Super busy back then. Hi3798CV200 wins in picture quality a bit when compare to S912. Files type and bit rate support also better, play more type than S912 (eg, Yi 4k+ video). Playback smoothness is better too (this depend on firmware). U9-H firmware is still very new. For me, Hi3798CV200 for movie and S912 for overall Android usage.
Don't like Kodi + wrapper on Himedia. Not everything work. Minix boxes sure win on streaming with add-ons.
*
Fair comment, i think.

I never used a minix but have heard many good things about kodi in it - for kodi addon streaming.
And minix is a major sponsor for kodi, i believe.

Local playback, i think it is hard for any box to beat q10pro for video quality.
It is also much better than the older q5ii and q16.
Playback the best files and 4k tv, u will not want to stop! biggrin.gif
Actually thinking of getting the small brother q5pro just for playback on another tv.

That wrapper for kodi doesnt even work for addons.
We'll see If next firmware can get it to work.
For now, it only works for those who insist on local playback with kodi player and not native himedia player.
But since it is wrapped and actually played back with native player, i find it redundant.

In summary, if primary use is for kodi, buy minix.
If primary use is for files playback, buy himedia.
Is that about right? tongue.gif

Read that about 4 million Msians will be getting the free RM199 TV box from BR1M.

Curious to know how does this TV box compare to other TV boxes?

Low or mid range TV box?

Buy/steal one from BR1M recipient and hack it to extend its usability? Ha.

Or just not worth the trouble?
*
r u sure that will be an android box?

i though it's just a digital receiver, like those built in new TV's to receive digital broadcast.

probably rm50 at cost.

Yes. Digital tv receiver. Dvb-t2.

However I found this on net. Hybrids Android Tv box with DVB-T2 features. Anyone tested it? Sound interesting so only need one box for local digital channels and for streaming / kodi.

These boxes are like at least 3 years old, android 4.4.

It's android 7 now.

I will not buy them.

But if gomen pays rm300 each to give away free, i guess the recipients can use it for some apps and kodi16.

Is there any tweak or setting for minix to display a true 1080p display?

I already set it up to 1080p 60hz, but I'm not impressed with the display quality on the menu.

And myiptv display for HD not nice either. Compare to my previous satellite dish HD display (skybox), definitely not on par. Maybe my eyes got problem lol.

Speed test on minix is around 40-50mbps.
*
if u are talking about online streams, u may be disappointed most of the time.

becos it is not easy to get FREE reliable HD streams; SD ones are plentiful.

i do not know skybox or myiptv, but sure, live streams like netflix, astro and hypptv streams on appropriate devices are excellent - they are legit and payable.

android boxes serve 2 main purposes - online streams and local playback of yr own files.

if u hv the best files, local playback will give the best video and audio quality unless the box is a real cheapo.

When you use Exodus, Genesis etc, it will search for the video from a list of suppliers.
Wonder what is their rationale in getting the videos, putting them on a site and freely available to all. All these cost money.
Do they get paid for doing this? How?
Or some do it out of their good hearts?
One idea in my head is, maybe they get under-the-table payments from TV box suppliers. Without their help, no one will be using the TV box.
Appreciate some insights if you know some of the inside stories.
Thanks.

if u hv read what's going on now, how the lawyers are suing these addons providers, u will know they are just individuals who are enthusiasts, having fun and developing a skill.

some of them go AHEM iptv and try to earn some $.

some will hope to get recruited by larger media cos.

most of them will just have fun, call it a day and move on to something else.

Average Streaming Bitrates

Typical Movies & TV shows
4K / UHD file encoding 11.2 to 11.8 mbps; my Unifi Lite not fast enough to stream
FHD file encoding 2.1 to 2.5 mbps; Unifi DL speed ~3 mbps
HD file encoding 1.2 to 1.6 mbps; Unifi DL speed ~2 mbps

Providers' encoding variation for same movie/show varies about 0.1~0.2 mbps

Info gathered during playback using Kodi & MX player

Interestingly most FHD/HD files are 23/24 fps...the two 4K movies checked was 30 fps...
*
that's about right.

2mbps = 250KBps, can get the heavily ripped HD files.

Time for u to go 50mbps or more!
Theoretically, 50mpbs can stream up to 6.25MBps or a 2 hr 45GB video.
In reality, can get only up to 20GB ones in quasar - provided seeds n peers are good.

It depends... when you do the maths and check the streams...most of the time HD has better per pixel quality than FHD...

...so starting with a better quality stream... I upscale to FHD...sends to my Blu-ray player to apply general sharpening, edge sharpening, micro-contrast adjustment, clarity enhancements, etc... only then it is "good enough" for viewing... lol... don't look down at my "HD" stream man... laugh.gif  wink.gif thumbup.gif

If the quality is below threshold...I just move on to a better HD or FHD source lor... laugh.gif

PS...it also doesn't help that most TV shows are HD only... sad...
*
as u know, hd, fhd comes in various shapes and sizes.

it is possible some less ripped 720 can be better than heavily ripped 1080 - the file size gives an indication.

but if streaming w/o that info, can't tell until u see the video.

tv shows... yes, almost all on normal streams are at best 720.

1080, u can get at quasar or some other sources(s).

newer netflix n amazon shows like house of cards, sense8, american gods... there are 2160p ones, each episode about 20GB.

FHD (2.6 mbps) vs HD (1.3 mbps)

Both are processed similarly...taken at viewing distance and cropped...color a bit out due to camera auto white balance

So which is which? Is the HD one acceptable? smile.gif

small display, little diff.

put on >50" tv, u will see diff.

the good news for u then is with hevc, a 1gb 45min video which is about 370KBps or 3mbps is good enough - 1080p, dd5.1.

whether quasar or some other means.

for those who demand more, get into 10bit videos - the color depths are significantly deeper than 8bit, esp when displayed on a 4k tv.
