Biggest headache I've had so far. Friend who is a level 67 warrior has decided to switch from swords / axes / polearms to maces / daggers because he wants to max out his dps.

Does it really max out the DPS that much for a warrior? Put it this way, a lvl50 dual axe-wielding shaman is outdps-ing him. Not to mention a lvl70 druid in catform/bearform in pre-raid gear.

I was watching him take out a non-elite ghost in Auchenai Crypts solo. It was rough for him. His reasoning was that he was tanking but wielding 2 weapons. Sigh.

Can't log into the WoW forums to check so thought I'd ask here.

I haven't really seen a high lvl war with maces/daggers and I bet there's a reason for that. Only knew ONE war who went mace spec but then, he got Hand of Ragnaros so I guess that's a different story.

1) How long has been your friend playing a Warrior?
2) A warrior is highly dependent on gear for his dps, tanking
3) Nothing wrong for a warrior to roll on a mace or a dagger.
4) Mace spec is the best pvp spec for warrior
5) Dagger is good for tanking in a way, the atk spd is fast.

All in all, in general consensus a dagger should go to a rogue IF a dagger rogue needs it.

As what i see in your write up, tanking non-elites in crypt? nothing wrong with dual wielding, but if what you say is true bout your friend having difficulties on non-elites....QQ

Comparing to druids before the latest patch.

1) Druid dps > warriors
2) Druids threat generation > warriors
3) Druids tanking > Warriors

Who don't like a 22k armor tank with 16-17k hp, running around, with mangle that crits like cake and generate aggro with a breeze.

I'm starting to notice one thing about warriors in general.

When they're good, they're extremely good.

When they're not, don't expect them to be open to suggestions, or should we say, constructively critism.

Back to the mace thing. If it's good for PvP, then should also be alright for PvE? In a warrior's point of view if he was DPSing and not tanking.

Waiting for him to lvl up to 70 and then check the damage meters.

well i'm using a warrior in my main and somehow warrior has changed to be kinda tedious in tanking already. outland creeps giving me a hard time especially.

i used to be using a dual hand axe. but i'm starting to change to dual wield and boosting up talend in mace mastery. that ought to do some tricks to it.

Warriors have been nerfed... that's for sure.

Druids really > War now...

Blizz's faults.

Yup thats usually how it turns out on most servers.

When they are good they are very, very good. But otherwise...

In other games Warriors/Fighters are usually the default beginner class since they are the simplest to play, e.g. Just hit things until they stop moving. Not so in WOW, thanks to Blizzard's unique implementation of this staple fantasy RPG class with the idea of "stances" and "rage". A good WOW warrior needs to learn stance dancing and rage management to be effective. The good ones are really good, the bad ones levelled up to 60 using only the default stance.

I've played a DPS warrior for awhile, both dual wield and 2hand MS builds - come to think of it, I dont think I've ever put more than 5 points in Protection in any build in my entire warrior career smile.gif In TBC instances, I find I can outdamage warlocks and hunters, but not mages and rogues and have to pay careful attention to beat out druids in bear/catform.

But back to the maces and daggers question...

Maces
Dual maces for Fury warriors I think are fine for PVP where stuns are gold, assuming you can find powerful ones (fewer compared to 1h axes and swords) so that DPS does not suffer - high burst damage is a must if you hope to kill anything.

For PVE DPS, especially on bosses, generally there are better choices in swords and axes since the sword and axe speciality procs works on everything, unlike the mace proc (Just about all bosses are *immune* to stuns).

Daggers
Daggers are probably not a good warrior weapon choice - yeah, rogues use them all the time but then they have plenty of talents that improve their damage output with daggers that a warrior has no access to. One of warriors in my guild used to tank with the lobotomizer from AV but he was the rare (and slightly crazy) one.

Would be interesting to try a Fist Weapon fury warrior though - there are some slow, powerful Fist Weapons with high top-end damage in TBC e.g. The Bladefist from Heroic Shattered Halls.

No worries, he's probably a fury warrior who wants the maximum rage generation.

Mace spec and fast dagger OH would give him that. laugh.gif

heh tell me about it.... I met a warrior who's convinced he should drink milk and melon to recharge himself. He charges blindly into battle and never backs down from a fight, EVER. Even if it means death he tirelessly walks back and forth from gy to corpse so often that its unfun. haaiihh... this goes double for horde, regardless if its level ??

daggers and maces are a BIG no no for warriors
especially if all you want is pve dps.

mace spec buff before the weapon skill nerf did bring the spec to be somewhat useful with less glancing blows, especially in raids, but with the not so recent weapon skill nerf, weapon skill is near to useless now. and thats the ONLY thing mace spec offers in pve. stuns? dont kid me, they do no dmg.

dagger spec, oh wait, warriors dont have it /headinhands.
ill let you in to a not-so-secret secret, rogues DONT even want daggers. why do they still wield them? because skills like mutilate and backstab requires them to, if rogues are ever able to backstab with swords, you WONT see ANY rogue rollin in daggers, MAYBE just for the offhand for poison proccings.

yes, while it is common courtesy to ask a rogue before rollin for daggers, my advice is to not even think about daggers, even when theres no rogues. unless your current weapon is SO horrible even crappy daggers can be an upgrade, then go ahead, but bear in mind, considering we're talking bout specializations, which is in arms tree, and the fact that there is NO dagger spec, just forget it.

a general rule of thumb for arms(mortal strike) warriors, get a BIG F**CKING WEAPON, as big as you can get, and as much min-max raw dmg as you can obtain. nuff said.
