A bit hard to decide what to do at the moment. I think this is just a downturn so in theory it's a good idea to buy on the dip. On the other hand, I also think that the RM will improve for a while yet, so any foreign funds you buy will depreciate in local currency terms even if they recover.

Yeah if your first instinct during a downturn is to sell you probably shouldn't be in mutual funds at all. And if you really do want to sell, why would you even care what you want to buy next? And sell it and keep cash if you can't decide.

QUOTE(T231H @ Dec 8 2017, 10:02 AM) yes you are right.... but i think he is a Platinum member...thus i will assume he knows about the basic of asset allocation, concentration risk and others.... I don't actually have any Greater China funds in my portfolio at the moment, though I do hold Affin Hwang Absolute Return Fund II, Affin Hwang Select Asia (Ex Japan) Quantum Fund and CIMB-Principal Asia Pacific Dynamic Income Fund - MYR. The first one I guess is the closest to a Greater China Fund. Added together, these add up to about 25% of my current portfolio, so I think I'm okay. I'm actually holding more than that in bond and cash funds because I've been expecting a downturn for a while now.

QUOTE(puchongite @ Dec 8 2017, 10:12 AM) Cimb dynamic income has VERY substantial Greater China. If AH absolute return II afffected in this recent correction ? Yeah, AH Absolute Return II absolutely cratered over the last month. But I'm still up on the year however. I would buy into it if I could but it's closed.

QUOTE(T231H @ Dec 8 2017, 10:18 AM) still holding and expecting a more % of falling downturn to come ? or have already disposed of how many % of this "war chest "of bond and cash fund in this 2 weeks correction to try to take the possible potential? Looking to deploy some of this now but unlike seemingly most of you, I'm comfortable with maintaining a large proportion in bond funds over the long term. FSM classifies my portfolio as a balanced one and I rather like the stability this brings.

QUOTE(T231H @ Dec 19 2017, 10:32 PM) fret not, this SC discount may be back next month during the fair.... so just prepare the ammo. talking about missed the SC.....many people would have cursed about missing the mkts discount during the early Dec minor corrections.... Yeah, glad I did what I said I would do and bought in during the dip. Not quite recovered from the dip yet, but at least it looks a lot better now.

Basically this is just dropping due to interest rate increase, right, which is a dumb reason because everyone should have anticipated this ages ago? Plus a bit of profit taking and some correction of over-inflated expectations from the previous run-up. Anyone think of any other concrete reasons for the drop?
If that's all this is, this should be a great time to buy.

QUOTE(Ramjade @ Feb 6 2018, 09:16 AM) Could be start of something big. Remember the world is due for correction as the bull run started on 2009. But usually if it's the start of something big, there's something concrete to point to. The collapse of a big bank, a country failing to honor their bonds, a specific market seizing up, etc. There doesn't seem to be any proximate cause in this case and in fact other statistics are doing well, GDP numbers, job numbers, sales etc.

Interestingly people seem to blaming funds based on volatility indices for the drop and are calling it a flash crash.

QUOTE(David3700 @ Feb 6 2018, 09:10 PM) I don't quite understand all forumers keep talking about top up whenever there is a market clash. And buy in again when the markets rise or when there is a sales charge promotion. It cannot be only BUY but no SELL right ? No SELL where got capital to BUY again ? There is sure at one point the portfolio will balloon until any top up amount becomes insignificant. Unless people here know how to print money lor..... Personally I am never fully invested in equity funds. I also have a significant amount in bond funds, plus emergency cash in various FD which can be used to top up equity funds. Plus of course I have new income flowing in all the time. I do sell equity funds in reaction to concrete news but usually not market events.

This year I received them a few days before CNY and my wife was so shocked. At least those provided by FSM look very classy. By far the best looking ones I have.

The resignation of Cohn from the Trump White House seems like a significant event to me and the best indication yet that the tariffs are coming for real. We've been waiting for the tipping point of the next big crisis for a while now. It seems to me that we could be looking at it.

QUOTE(jfleong @ Mar 7 2018, 01:41 PM) So what would your advice be ? Sell all China funds ? I don't know. If this is a trade war that truly kicks off the next big financial crisis, one would sell off all funds, not just China ones. Certainly Trump's protectionist stance makes it easier for others to pander to their own protectionists as well, e.g. EU and India vis-a-vis Malaysian palm oil, and could easily escalate.

Decided to sell down some of my equity funds. Even though markets are green today, I'm really nervous about the prospect of a trade war. Too much volatility at the moment.

QUOTE(Avangelice @ Mar 28 2018, 05:00 PM) ETF is now available on the Malaysian stock market. looks like I may be switching everything to ETF ramjade have a look at it? I don't get it. Quite a few those ETFs aren't new and have been around for a while. They may not necessarily track the market as well as they claim due to low liquidity.
