I m currently using AMD AB350 gaming 3. Bios is at F6. Is it essential for me to update my Bios to f7? Else if not needed, I would prefer not to touch it.

Another question , how do I check my ram speed ?

CPU-Z will be able to report your memory speed.

Just checked. My ram frequency is showing 1330.2MHz .. why is that so? I bought my ram speed showing as 2667MHz. Sorry for asking noob question.

DDR stands for double data rate, so each single channel is running at 1333mhz to equal 2666mhz of double data rate. In short, you are running at 2666mhz

why does my R5 1600 keeps increasing temperature to around 90 C when i runs OCCT (for 10mins) or Prime95 (less than 10 mins). I did not even OC it.

I am using a stock cooler.

XFR and precision boost kick in, stock voltage is quite aggressive, sometime it may use higher than what it really need.

fyi, ryzen maximum temperature is 95C.

Yea

last time my r5 1600 runs prime 95 for 10mins, cpu stays around 72-75C tho.. good airflow inside your case? idle temp is how much?
*
I m using phantek P400. My idle temp not OC is 40-50 C .. what cooler should I change ? I am thinking of corsair H80i v2

Ryzen 5 1600 right? quite high idle temp rate? Your idle temp same as my gaming temp, lol. Room is ac or not? My room don't have oc, only fan..and idle is around 39-40 before changing thermal. Btw, self installed cpu heatsink and everything?

I recently just changed thermal paste to thermalgrizzly kyronaut, now my idle is around 35-37.. still using stock wraith cooler.
*
Yes r51600. Room air con . Self installed heatsink and build myself.

tak patut that high.. previously on ac room my r5 only idles around 37~ with stock, i guess if now should 35 if changed thermal.. did you applied thermal properly?
*
Because cuz by the first time I set up.. I put he heatsink wrongly. Then I quickly remove and corrected it.

I didn’t apply thermal .. by default alrdy got

QUOTE(sai86 @ Oct 6 2017, 01:38 PM)
did you make sure you install the cooler tightly?
case airflow is positive? also take out side panel and see how's the temp.
try reapply tim if you want.

Go for Custom Liquid cooling  brows.gif its quite cheap for WC CPU only.
1x 240mm rad
1x pump
1x resevoir
1x cpu block
2x fan
-few fittings
-few pipe/tubes.

the best of all, you can just add in GPU block and few fittings/tubes in future if you want to WC your GPU as well.
*

Ok will try to remove side panel. The custom liquid cooling like very troublesome Haha

hmm guess that's your problem.. probably the thermal paste isn't enough or maybe uneven spread. Go buy new thermal paste, like thermalgrizzly(recommended) or arctic mx 4 ..just buy small one ok dy, u dont need use so much thermal paste anyway.

if going for aio ..probably can try idcooling frostflow, quite good for budget one
*
Ok.. last question.. is OC necessary ? Since I don’t run any heavy softwares. Just gaming and reading e book and surfing

no need... also before applying new thermal, makesure you clean up the previous thermal paste using alcohol swipe (if got), or just wipe clean. Apply like in pea sized ontop cpu, then tight properly your heatsink on top your cpu.
*
I applied mx 4 . Ran occt (no OC) for 16 mine without removing casing . Was around 85 C. Slightly better .. is it normal to peak speed keep fluctuating

Is your environment hot? Is it small casing? Check the cooler installation and cable management too.

My Ryzen 7 1700 with stock cooler doesn't even hit 70C.

OK. sad.gif i tried Witcher 3 and Car Project 2 today. my temp hit 70C and the fan rev very loud. first time experience this. prev i played witcher 3 my fan doesnt rev loud.

What I did next is to open my casing .. realised my amd fan is plug into systemfan1 then I unplug and plug to CPU fan .. stil open casing . Ran Car Project 3. Temp hovering around 50C.. but fan rev was still loud .. close the case .. fan increase to 54C ..
shut down my game .. temp decline to 42C but fan was still rev very loud.. .. my questions are
1. Does system fan and cpu fan makes a difference
2. How to control fan speed ?

the default fan curve is different, cpu one more aggressive, so the fan spin up much faster and at a higher speed. system fan usually is use for chassis.

can use bios or tools provided by mobo manufacturer to set fan curve.

you use which mobo?
*
gigabyte ab350 gaming 3

QUOTE(firdausbhari @ Oct 8 2017, 08:13 PM)
im using the same mobo as yours. i only connect cpu fan to mobo. stock casing fan straight to psu. stock 3.2ghz running 30-40c idle. up to 70c full load
from his photo, its gigabyte ab350 gaming 3
*
after going thru some testing. i think the fan rev is coming from my graphic card. sad.gif even after i shutdown my game. the fan still rev at very loudly. no idea why. sad.gif

try check with hwmonitor...whats the speed and temp?
*
last night. before i sleep. i tried playing Project cars 2 around 10mins. everything seem back to normal. i tried again this morning with total wars warhammer. no more loud fan.

checked hwmonitor and GPUZ , realised my fan speed % and RPM are detectable now. prev they were not.

any idea why? is it some cables not properly plug?

Cables look like probably plugged in. I just touch touch. Mb bios no update but I did update my GC.

Yup after re apply thermal looks better .. let’s just hope no issue.

nearly had a heart attack.

so after seeing my temp so low. i went to OC to 3.6 and temp was around 62 C after 10mins +. so i increase 10% to 3.9. after that the nightmare begins. my diplay was blank. everything in CPU was running. my mobo VGA card was lighted red.

after some googling. i took out my CMOS batt and now everything back to normal.

What just happened? I WILL STOP MEDDLING WITH MY PC FROM NOW.

Yeah, thats normal for overclock fails. 3.6Ghz is quite safe for stock voltage. More than that will need increase of voltage for the vcore (with the luck of silicon lottery). I went 1.35V for 3.9Ghz on my Ryzen 7 1700 with Extreme LLC (Load Line Calibration). Diminishing returns kicks in for more than 3.7Ghz. The higher you go, the more voltage you need.

i see. stupid question. why when OC fails, VGA was red flag? but not CPU?
