Well, we can do that and say that it's formed by a group of hamster/gerbil/rodent enthusiasts. tongue.gif

I don't think hamsters and small pets like gerbils are suitable for most children. So far I've only sold hams to 2 ppl who bought for their children but know how to handle and supervise when the children are around.

I've seen what kids can do with their pulling and squeezing. One of my dog hates children due to them annoying him some years ago.

. . . . . .
If a male and female ham live together 100% pregnant, unless they're sterile or got some genital/reproductive problem.

I think he's 8 or 9 or something.

You put a pair of ww together doesn't mean they MUST like each other. They fight is not because the male is naughty or he doesn't like the female, it's just that he feels that it's his territory and he will chase off the female. Usually males do accept females more easily, but I guess your pair is just not compatible.

Donno what you were thinking when you put the ww with the syrian, did you know that the syrian could've killed the ww?

Your actions were stupid and I must stress, DO NOT PUT HUMAN FEELINGS INTO ANIMALS DAMN IT!

No, don't touch the wound if it's already hardened. Might induce further damage if you wet the wound and since it's already hardened, means bacteria can't go into the wound as the clot would protect it.

Just make sure it stays hardened and not wet. If it looks wet and pusy, then use some pure honey or mild iodine that you can get from your local vet and swipe it over the wound with a cotton bud.

Hmm... The point is not that you put them in for 10 seconds only. The point is that you intentionally put them together in the first place. 10 seconds is a long time, anything could've happened.

Why not you just get 2 pairs of hams of the same sex and from the same litter. Problem solved. Provided that they are dwarves of course. If you want syrian, then better forget about a pair at all because syrians are solitary and will fight regardless of the sex.

If you want to breed, you need to take lots of things into consideration. Firstly, did you know that if you do not take it seriously to care for them properly, the mom will most probably cannibalize their babies? There is a chance that none of your pups will survive, so what are you going to do? Breed again?

Also, if you keep the pair together, they will continuously breed and you will keep getting more and more hamsters. I figure you're going to run out of ppl to give to after awhile.

Hamsters only live for 2 to 2 and a half years, dwarves may not even last 1 and a half years. Breeding shortens their lifespan and is a great burden to their bodies. There are so many hamsters out there, why not give them a home instead of making more hamsters when there are so many that need homes already?

I hope you take this advice to heart, you won't regret it. smile.gif

PS : Her shitzu killed it? How did the dog even manage to get to the hamster? Shouldn't you think about whether your bf's sister is really serious about this? If it was in a proper tank or cage, I doubt the dog would've gotten to it in the first place.

What you can do is, don't buy from the same pet shop and also, don't buy the next one from nearby petshops. Usually, a few pet shops will take a huge bulk and share, so most of them have the hams from the same supplier.

You can get one from a LYN forumer and one from pet shop. But make sure you find out how to properly introduce them and make sure they both are healthy and above 4 months old before you breed them as breeding them too young can cause the female to be stunted and grow abnormally.

In my opinion, just ignore her and keep a single sex pair yourself. If she wants free hamsters she should go find one that's for adoption or something or you can help her find. Sometimes we have ppl here giving hams away for free.

Hamster is only RM15 to RM30, if she doesn't want to invest on getting the animal, what more on the care and the quality of the products she will provide?

Have to wait and see, but give extra protein and make sure he's taking in enough.

You can supplement them with a bit of puppy replacent milk soaked in bread to help the pup grow.

Does the eye have any mucus coming out of it?

QUOTE(joanalooidog @ May 4 2007, 09:04 AM)
i found that feeding kibbles to hamster cant really make them chubbier......
Instead, i found a way, which is feed more kuaci!!!! sure looks chubby!!!
THe first time i keep hamster, i bought one big bag of kuaci from bird shop. Then everyday i put 3 or 4 together with their food. They looks really fat!! But after the bag of kuaci finish, i din buy any loh, coz know not that healthy for them. I noticed that they really become slimmer leh........
But both kibbles and kuaci, if fed too much to the hamster is not healthy also, so just a balance diet should be ok...........
*
Kibbles is better than kuaci, feeding kuaci is very unhealthy, one or 2 pcs occasionally is ok, but not everyday. Yes, they will get fatter because it's empty calories, like we eat junk food and fast food. Eat too much will leach on calcium also.

When choosing kibbles to feed, make sure no garlic or avocado, not good for them.

not to make my pup chubby.  He's not healthy - he's only halve the size of all his siblings and his eyes jz opened yesterday (took him 1 week plus later than his siblings).  He's super skinny and doens't look healthy to me.  Reanne suggested feeding him with puppy kibbles soaked in puppy milk.  I dun puppy milk.  So, I soaked with plain water only .

Oi oi oi, I where got say puppy kibbles soaked in milk? Bread soaked in puppy milk la.

Usually when ppl say Black Bear in Singapore, it means a black campbell. When ppl say Black bear in US or UK, usually means Black syrian.

Here when we say black bear, we mean black RC.

Panda syrian/panda syrian bear is usually a term for black recessive dappled syrians, but petstores like to use it for black banded syrians to create more appeal.

Make sure the bedding is dry, dont disturb the syrian for the next few days, but keep a close watch on it. If the tail area looks to be very wet, then it may have diarhoea or wet tail.

Don't feed the syrian any fruits or veggies for the next few days. Feed only dry stuff and water.

Does it look lethargic?

QUOTE(Syrian @ May 23 2007, 09:23 PM)
why on earth would she suddenly be lethargic or has a wet tail??? She was okay and fine all this while together with her little brother.  And she was absolutely active at nite - always trying to escape like her mommy.  And my housemate and I handle all our hamsters almost everyday.  There's no reason for her to be untamed or sked at all.
*
My dear, hamsters can deteriorate very fast. Did you know that wet tail can kill in the space of a day or two?

Once a syrian is sold, you must be sure to advise the buyer to let the hamster rest for at least 1 to 3 days. Means no handling and poking at it. Everything for the hamster in the cage should be set up before introducing the ham to it's new environment.

It's important also, for the seller to give a handful of tissue or bedding from the tank that it was housed in, better if the tissue has the scent of the mom and siblings.

When a syrian is in unfamiliar territory, they become scared and become stressed, which lowers their immune system. Wet tail doesn't need to be carried from another live thing for your ham to catch. Especially in younger pups, when a young syrian is introduced into a new environment and becomes very stressed and frightened, they can succumb to wet tail. Each hamster has a different immune system and tolerance. Some might be more sensitive than others.

They can also succumb to wet tail when housed in very stressful, crowded and dirty conditions. But I don't think it's the latter.
