Crossbred also won't sell so cheap leh. Double check and see. I doubt it's so cheap.
Edit : Oh, just found out. They're for feeding to snakes. They're campbell dwarves. That's why so cheap. This post has been edited by Reanne: Mar 23 2007, 04:24 PM |

All types of domestic hamsters can live alone if you keep them alone.

QUOTE(dazzle @ Mar 26 2007, 07:32 AM) Why do try the CHIPSI plus Green Apple for bedding. How do you know if your hamster likes it? Did they tell you they enjoy being on Chipsi apple? I'm not trying to be sarcastic, but seriously, don't put human feelings in animals. The only thing we can do is give them the best, and chipsi apple is not one of them.I used this about 1/2 years, no smell and hamster like it. I changes this also because of the smell. At starting, the smell was horrible(in put in my dinning). My mother complain me on the smell. So I decide to changes the bedding. At last I found this CHIPSI plus Green Apple. No more smell, mom not more make noise. Gerbil also can used this CHIPSI plus Green Apple as bedding QUOTE(joanalooidog @ Mar 26 2007, 08:56 AM) CHipssi Green Apple is ok lah, but some claimed that those scented bedding r not good to rodents' breathing system. But still many ppl r using them without any problem, so dunno lah........... Chipsi uses softwood which is the type of wood that carries the harmful chemicals known as phenols. When the bedding is scented, you won't be able to smell how strong the phenols are and the perfume that they use is also artificial, also not good for our pets. The company is only producing bedding to help gain interest in buyers by adding extra stuff, but it's not beneficial at all to our hammies. Phenols damage ultimately the lungs and liver. Damaging the liver may also cause harm to other areas to the body as it's one of the most important organs. If you find it hard to imagine, try soaking a cloth with disinfectant and tie it over your mouth and nose everyday for the whole day(This is an example, please do not actually do this as it may induce poisoning). This is what your pet is going through when they are housed on pine or cedar. QUOTE(Syrian @ Mar 26 2007, 05:04 PM) LOL. Robos are cute neh DTW is Dark Tailed White. Basically a white gerbil with a darkish brown tail. what is DTW?? I always hear ppl complaining saying that hteir hamsters stink. But so far, i've neva come across this problem. I have 2 syrians and 2 robo in my room and i change thier bedding twice in 3 weeks. No smell at all wor Do you spot clean the cage? If you do, it reduces the smell a lot because syrians pee in one place. Spot cleaning that place everyday will help and the bedding will last longer. Changing 2 times every3 weeks is quite regular, so no problem there. QUOTE What breed is your hamster? I've read MANY forums and guides saying for some dwarfs like RC, you can leave the male in together as it will help raise the pups. Not sure how true though.. I nvr let my hamster breed so far. Yes, usually the male campbell will help the female to raise they young. Robo males also do this. QUOTE it is robos..i have oredy seperated them...then..when i can mix them together after this? Male and female? This post has been edited by Reanne: Mar 26 2007, 05:34 PM |

Chipsi Super, not classic. Classic is the same with apple, but without the perfume.

Depends. Not all dwarves get along with each other. They also have their own preferences, likes and dislikes.

Can. As long as no garlic or avocado.
Try not to give your hams too much dog/cat kibble. Twice a week is enough, too much protein can damage their liver. |

Waa.... So many kibbles.... I find it not such a good idea to mix oily kibble like RC into hamster mixes because it is moist and can cause the mix to spoil because the mix should be kept dry. Tried before and the mix smelled very weird after a short period of time.

Trust me, RC kibbles are DARRNN oily. California Natural, Nutro and Science Diet are not so oily and safe.

Try not to use Kaytee. Kaytee is considered rather commercial and most of their feed contain ethoxyquin.

. . . . . .
Please read. http://www.petcaretips.net/ethoxyquin.html http://www.avianweb.com/ethoxyquin.htm http://theaviary.com/ethoxy.shtml Regardless, I still say prevention is better than cure. This post has been edited by Reanne: Mar 28 2007, 05:46 PM |

A few a day. Maximum of 10, depending on how fat your mealies are. Not too much, mealies are high in fats.

QUOTE(^MochI^ @ Apr 3 2007, 02:17 PM) WOOO..... REALLY AH!? how to promote to let it change more ah.. does ur ww change back its normal coat like b4 or its diff from b4 after it change winter coat? Just put it in a dark area. Don't change the temperature. Some may change completely, some don't. They will change back into their original colour in a few months.QUOTE(kurikuraX @ Apr 3 2007, 03:21 PM) how to promote the WW to changes their coat to wonter coat? Hm..if Im not mistaken, it is true to provide them with hide-out port..but the cold the temperature the better. The colder the temp the better? My goodness, they'll catch cold. Please do not change the temperature. Leave it in a dark area, that's all. However, it is not adviseable to put em in cold..because its promote them to hybernate. they will kill their babies if they think that the winter is coming... please correct me if Im wrong QUOTE(arraille @ Apr 3 2007, 05:23 PM) one question... does female syrian (dunno about other hamsters) normally refuse to mate with the male when she is pregnant...? Err... My dear, did you check whether the female is on heat in the first place??QUOTE(arraille @ Apr 3 2007, 05:36 PM) i separate them too (crazy la if i mix my syrians)... but when i wanna mate them i put them together at night for about 30-min... but lately the female refuse to 'entertain' the male... another couple, the female bite the male's balls... fuyoh... damn ganas... i quickly took the male out... Don't simply put them together when YOU want them to mate! Make sure she's on heat first! |

QUOTE(arraille @ Apr 4 2007, 10:00 AM) i guessed so... coz when i hold the female, she produced some kind of lite cream liquid with one kind of smell (i don't think it's the urine, coz i think i smell the urine before and it's different)... maybe that male didn't know how to 'seduce' the female or very rough intro, that's why la QUOTE(crazymouse_yyh @ Apr 4 2007, 01:26 PM) Yes, that whitish stuff means she is on heat. damn smelly if kena tangan.... Sometimes they may produce that yucky fluid out of fright. To check properly whether she's on heat, use your index finger and run the ball of your finger down her spine from behind the neck to the base of her tail. If she's on heat, chances are she'll freeze and lie flat with her head and tail facing upwards. This is the mating position for the female.Yes, Syrian will only have coz in the wild, they are live solitarily and only come together for mating. So the females must produce a smell to attract males lah. In the wild, Robos and most dwarf hamsters live in colonies so there is no need to attract males from afar. If the female is on heat they will rarely fight with the male because she will freeze when she smells the male! Not ALL females will freeze straight away at the presence of a male, so it's best to check yourself first. Do read up more Arraille. |
