Winter White hamsters, also called Siberian hamsters, come from the steppes of Siberia and Kazakhstan and possess an adaptation not seen in Campbells: they can moult into a white winter coat. This camouflages them against the snow and also gives them their name. This moulting is brought on by the amount of day light; if the hamster is kept in an environment with short duration of day light (< 12 hours of light/day) for more than 6 weeks, they will change into their winter coat (white guard hair with thick inner hair) with only a single black stripe going through the center of the back.

i separate them too (crazy la if i mix my syrians)... but when i wanna mate them i put them together at night for about 30-min... but lately the female refuse to 'entertain' the male... another couple, the female bite the male's balls... fuyoh... damn ganas... i quickly took the male out...

i juz put it at the orginal place whrer he started to change now.. becoz i stay quite high above from ground .. err i mean like small genting so abit cold la.. maybe tts the reason? i never put it in a dark place.

hehe syrian the biggest hamster so must have biggest balls la huhu
but sometime i geli la..my jumpy ball..looks like it can be big..and sometime hide under his long fur..may be it be big when jumpy is hamsap kot huhu

Syrians get stressed easily. Disturb abit, sure cannibalize their young. If cage too crowded or it got another Syrian inside, same thing will happen also.

This is why we should not breed without thinking.... many people are breeding without knowledge since we humans always put human emotions with animals.... which is really bad lah coz their nature is not the same with humans at all.

My ricy WW(female) pass away this morning.

Left riky alone now.

I brought her to vet. but the doctor say she can't stay long.

i bought a sapphire winter white...the ham is normal size..but dont really like me to carry her..so i take n see see and looks like a male...so i put them together lor...but few months later i carry the female wan..i feel like fat fat then i say..damn u eat so much..then saturday(april 7th) i see the cage got baby liao and the female wan skinny liao..

the thing is..I TOT THE SAPPHIRE WAN WAS A MALE HAM...from the day i buy her till saturday...wtf...

so put some mealworms for the mummy? and separate the fada??

i bought a toyogo (transparent) from carrefour last nite and i think it's the size of 2ft tank - not too sure abt the size.  But stlightly bigger and spacious than the 2ft aquarium tank . . hehe.  I bought it for RM 13.90 only cheap and nice   It's totally transparent like those aquarium tanks not translucent  .
